Grew up and live in Akron. We used to get food from Joanns pantry when I was a kid. Never knew it was named for a murdered woman. I was born 1991 just a couple years after it happened. Great video.
I love the format of your videos. I am huge into true crime but I haven’t heard of some of the cases you cover. Thank you because it was getting hard to find cases I didn’t know about.
Your channel is excellent. That ending of the Zodiac killer/s video (laptop being closed, faceless man packing up) was perfect. The Clubber of Toledo video was great & interesting. As was the Cleveland serial killers video. Please consider doing one of these type documentaries about the so called "Storyville Slayer" (New Orleans). It has most if not all of the key elements. At least 1 unidentified serial killer in the city that was once the 3rd wealthiest & largest in the US but never recovered from the civil war. There's plenty of "urban decay" involved. Then there's the whole "hellish swampland" angle & of course hurricanes. This is the original place Walt Disney wanted to build Disneyworld but was like "nah, your city is f'd, i'll build my own" Fyi, Storyville is the former red light district & some of the most famous cemeteries are in that area. Who knows if it's real or not, but you probably heard of the man ("Clay") who claimed to be a recreational murderer/serial killer here called Howard Stern a while back & the recording of that call is presently all over the place. Was "Clay" the "Storyville Slayer"? Who knows. You could also cover the Axeman of New Orleans while you're at it (if interested). Quite a few of the houses attacked by the "Axeman" still exist apparently in basic original form. Keep up your great work bro's.
I’m from Hudson, born in ‘88 though. My mom was an avid runner and hearing this brought back vague memories of her telling me about it as a child. Tragic story, great storytelling by the narrator. RIP to the victims. RIP to Chapel Hill Mall as well (Akronites will understand that one)
I was 13 and living in Hudson when this all happened. To this day I'm STILL paranoid about getting my ankle slashed getting into my car thanks to the killing at Best 37 years ago and that rumor. I'm SO glad you covered this!! Thank you.
Its just different being a male i guess. I lived in Akron from 2012-14 coming from a small town, i could walk anywhere and i did, i would walk everywhere and always felt safe. No matter what time of night i was never worried. Being a young female in this world is hard, knowing it only takes one crazy guy to cross your path. If i were a female i would have to take jiu jitsu or something, even the playing field.
Have you seen the photos of when it was taken over by nature? They are amazing, vines and trees busting through walls, etc. I think its an amazon center now
This was wild to watch. I grew up in Akron and lived through different parts of summit county most of my life. I had no idea about any of this and have been to most of these locations. As a teenager in the early 2000's we actually used to go hide in those woods near the mall to smoke cigarettes and be delinquents.
The part about the womans body found in a homeless camp and the deserted Chappel Hill mall links two social issues. Why dont cities buy the empty malls and create a sanctuary for the homeless? It could include small apartments plus medical clinics, educational classes, Grocery outlets, etc. Your narrative style is great.
I don't know if they still do it, but some of Chapel Hill's wings get periodically rented out to the University of Akron. The big rooms can be useful for technology focused classes.
I’ve lived just 15 minutes outside of Akron my whole life. I know every one of these areas like the back of my hand. This is insane to me that I’ve never heard of any of these
Born and raised here in Akron and I never heard of this case. I was only 4 at the time of the killings but I remember there was a time when my mother refused to leave the house after sunset and I think it was around that time! My parents used to watch the news all the time, so they must have heard about it, and since we're so close to Chapel Hill Mall I'm sure they were paranoid like so many others. Even when I was in middle school there were rumors of people hiding under cars to slash ankles, never knew it started with this case! I hope whoever did it eventually gets found out, familial DNA might be the route to take now since that seems to be catching a lot of cold cases criminals nowadays!
i live about an hour away, and used to go to UA every year for marching band contests. we were always told to be super careful and have at least three people in a group to go anywhere. never knew why but i guess even now it isnt super safe up there
You make fascinating videos with a lot of interesting historic footage. I also like how you visit some of the sites. One thing that bums me out is the music you include in many of your videos. Personally, I think it would add more ambience to maybe just have the soundscapes and none of the semi-Industrial music. Also the music and soundscape levels are a bit too high. Again, I really like your videos but wanted to give you my perspective and feedback. EDIT: I subbed 👍
I like this video but came to the comments to say I don't blame you for not wanting to try to pronounce "Cuyahoga Falls" 🤣 I actually live in that city. It's kai-uh-HO-guh. Just in case you need it in the future lol.
I like your channel very much though I still struggle with the voiceover and I have to use captions. I'm kind of familiar with some of the cases presented as I like to research on social studies, but others I hadn't seen them anywhere else. A long ago deceased relative worked in Ohio in the early 70s through a scholarship or exchange program, he used to tell us stories about certain areas of the state being quite dangerous. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I remember this. The people claiming that someone was lying in wait under cars, slashing their Achilles tendons. I worked with a bunch of ladies. They knew all about it.
I would think the killer lived in north hill or tallmadge. I know all those places st.Martha’s,chapel hill, played peewee football for Patterson park. I remember riding bikes and motorcycles in woods behind best and Zayres. It was old over grown golf course.
I’m a truck driver who has been pretty much everywhere, please believe me-Akron could be so much worse. There’s so much to explore, history to learn,30 minutes to cleveland-less than 2 hours to Columbus, more affordable than pretty much anywhere else, easy to navigate when odot isn’t closing new roads without actually opening any of the others back up. No,it’s not perfect but no major city is. Maybe it’s just spending time in the middle of Nebraska, but I’ve learned not to take this place for granted 😂
I believe Janice’s case has been solved. From the Beacon Journal, it reads “Through a process that included DNA The Summit County coroner and police found footprints determining that Thomas Collier Jordan was responsible for the rape and slaying of Christensen. Jordan died in 2009 in Yuma, Arizona. Jordan who was born in Cleveland in 1926 had an extensive criminal record. He was sentenced to prison in 1959 in Trumbull County for grand larceny, convicted of burglary in 1961 in Cuyahoga County, convicted of rape, stabbing, and burglary in Geauga County which kept him in prison until 1985. Investigators say Jordan had ties to Ohio, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Louisiana.”

We moved out of Akron last year and to the county directly east and got some land now. I don't know why I didn't do it 10 years earlier.

Thank you! I did not imagine the homes from the Axe Man were still around so I had that one on a backburner. I'd love to get to New Orleans sometime!
Excellent video. So strange to hear all of these locations. I was 10 in 87 and am from Summit County, and would walk to Chapel Hill often as a teen.

My mom was the first police officer in Hudson, when it was Twp and Village.
Same- my mom always told me about it and to look under my car first
Me too! I remember this well.
If they have DNA then why are they not revealing any characteristics of the possible killer? Your presentation is excellent!
Keep watching TV, you'll find the answer.

I miss Rolling Acres mall
Was a great place until a certain segment robbed them of everything, and it shut down.

Excellent video! The music added, the archival newspaper & footage, this reminds me of a Forensic Files episode.
I really hope the unsolved gets solved 🙏
Akron being mentioned happens all the time, but CHAPEL HILL MALL? Crazy
Lol I used to live like 5 mins from the chapel hill mall

I wonder if the Chapel Hill one is the case I vaguely remember from about that time.
Chapeill, NC?
It was the Goblin of Akron- he lives at 335 Lloyd. He spends all night yelling about someone named Marty he also assaulted a kid named Blind Billy.
