Hi! I recently discovered Mr. Dan's videos and immediately thought wow what a weight loss transformation! I didn't want to sound bad, so when I read your comment, I felt better about my thoughts.
I can tell he was happy with the hair style you gave him and it was such a great hair style you did. He has beautiful hair and you managed to make it even better.
This is what sets Dan so far apart from others in his profession - he actually listens to what the client wants and responds with good advice as to how achievable or suitable the style may be. Of course being so skillful with scissors and a razor helps too!
I live in the US. If I had Dan cutting my hair I’d let him work his magic and do whatever he wanted lol. This guy is blessed to be in the hands of a professional
Dan is an absolute magician! His professionalism and ability to work with any client shows his level of skill and amount of time he’s put into his craft. Love watching your videos Dan!
Apart from the powerful fastidiousness of this client, I’ve been surprised just how precise a lot of Dan’s clients are about their hair and looks in general. Many of us women simply grab a picture from the internet or a magazine, or know we want a fringe (bangs) or a particular colour. Maybe we’re more easily pleased! Who’d a thought it?!😊
I liked the authenticity of their interaction, most of us know Dan is brilliant at what he does, he'll find a nice middle between giving the clients what they want and his expert advice. A particularly "fussy" client just adds to the fun, not having some robot just sitting there putting on an act to please everyone, except himself, it is his hair (and money) after all. Another job well done 👍
Thank you so much. That’s the point of these videos to show a wide variety of people and interactions. Ariel travelled all the way from the US to UK for this so it’s normal to want to make it the best. We appreciated him being “fussy” as it made for a great video. The most important thing to us is he may have been “fussy” but he was never rude and always polite. Nothing wrong with that for us. Whether you’re quiet, loud, fussy, don’t care. As long as you’re polite and kind that’ll do for us. Obviously it’s important that we have our own timings and are in control of that so we can take as long as we want, but it was a pleasure to have Ariel in! Would be fun to have him come back in and see how it’s developed! ❤️
I’m a woman who has always had short hair. It’s so hard to find hairdressers who can cut short hair and why are women’s hairdressers so bloody expensive?
I’ve been asking this for years. I have a pixie cut. Shorter than some men. Why should I pay so much more for a haircut than a man? How is this even legal? And yet it goes on unchallenged.
Yeah… I am wondering the same, why in the world am I paying so much for just a hair cut? After watching more than a few of Dan’s videos now, old and new, I realize this guy is an actual hair “artist “ not just a title on a business card, his advice is invaluable… I have no idea what the hell I’ve been paying for, but it certainly isn’t this type of service! Ugh.
@susanlong7779 go to a good barber if you have such short hair. In a women's salon you pay a lot for atmosphere. You also pay rent. If the salon is in a shopping mall, you will normally pay more than for a cut at a salon situated in a side street.
OMG…I had to force myself to watch the consultation as the client was way too fussy for me! Having watched Dan numerous times and I think this guy has as well, just go with him! Sometimes the less said is better! I respect the amount of patience Dan showed and this video only adds to his greatness!
Also, if you’ve had a bad haircut or two in the past, you may come off as fussy making sure the stylist knows what you want and don’t want. Dan handled this very well, going over everything again and explaining more to his client.
Our son used to get VERY upset after every haircut so I do understand this kid...eventually he found a turkish barber he liked and there was a lot less angst.
Wow. Dan you are so gifted on helping get the right hair cut. This was overwhelming to me. Sometimes the customer does not explain what they want very well. In this case. Great job.
Dan is dropping so much knowledge, I've been to a lot of the barber academies and non of them know this stuff, like the pro and cons of cutting into a part, face shape etc. Bravo man
I think he’s good at explaining what he wants and doesn’t want but also is contradicting himself. If you did exactly what he said, he wouldn’t have liked what you did. I’m glad you were showing him and going through each section asking what he wanted and if it would be cohesive or even possible with his other preferences. I had a picky mom come in with her adult son and I started with a low fade, then to a medium, and then to a high fade. It was really time consuming and took a lot of patience but she loved her son’s hair at the end. I didn’t really appreciate her comment about how my medium fade dipped in the back looked “weird” but her son said “you are a genius for doing that, it compliments the head shape so well!” He said he never had a haircut like that before. They left happy but I am thankful that not every client is like that. I love a good challenge every once in awhile but sometimes there’s that client that will not like anything that you do and I truly believe it’s a confidence issue or something deeper going on that has nothing to do with us.
Ariel you are like me, I can never explain exactly what I want!! Take photos of your hair right now (get someone to help) then take your pics for next cut.. Well done Dan, you're a star. Love from UK.
What a great cut, after such a long and involved consultation. And you were so good at explaining to your client what you were doing throughout the execution of the cut, Dan. You kept him reassured and comfortable throughout the process and he was so pleased at the end. Bravo!
He was not fussy, Id say "particular" haha. I think it came down to proper communication on his part. He has nice hair and he sees it as his trademark. I love how Dan took the time, not only to listen carefully, but to ensure they were on the same page! Best video so far with Dan, Id say Mr Regal Gents.
I can not believe than Dan used to be that "out of shape". He looks like Joey Fatone. 😂 But now, he's like the sexiest man in Universe!! Good for him!! 😊
He basically wanted a 90's Disney Channel guy haircut. Bless you for tolerating the "fussiness" of one of my countrymen.....I hope future visitors from the U.S. are a bit more mellow.
It was a lot of fun having Ariel in the chair! We always love it when a video just ends up completely different to what we would have imagined! We’re so grateful that Ariel travelled from the US for a haircut and it was a pleasure to have him in the chair!
I worked in a more urban shop in California. Usually the clients are super chill but some can be picky. White guys, from my experience are so mellow and not picky at all lol. For me, the most picky clients were my Hispanic ones. No hate tho, I just think hispanic guys love their hair a lot more. But now there's this bowl cut looking trend and it's so ugly and annoying
Dan, you are amazing! You spend so much time with your clients that no one else does. Your cuts are incredible and everyone I’ve ever seen when your finished it’s superb!!!😊
He’s just giving him an outline of what he wants but he’s still telling him to do what he thinks, taking in consideration of what he wants . He said to do what ever he wants. I don’t think he was that fussy or difficult.
murdered the consultation! as someone who had their consultation down pat on one stage and have since moved around the world, I'm really struggling to adapt my dialogue. killed it G.
Thank you! It’s always good to have that new challenge though, keeps it fresh. Always bring you to the consultations, don’t change yourself too much as that’s what makes you who you are and just try to adapt. Keep it up, you’ll get there!
I noticed right away when I started watching videos from 2 years ago: massive weight change which nonetheless did not take away from his charming handsome self. But yes, it's quite noticeable...
Great interaction. Nothing wrong with expressing what you want although it can be hard to have a meeting of the minds with a professional that understands more and it’s difficult to explain the why’s of what works and what doesn’t. Dan is still the master!
I would normally agree, but there’s a level where the expressing gets a biiiiit much. This was the kinda cut that should have been done with his long-time barber…not someone new. That makes you look kiiiinda like an @$$. It’s not that you shouldn’t get what you want when he prolly paid a good amount…again, it’s just if you’re that particular find someone and stick to them…don’t go to one of the most talented barbers on RUclips and not let him do his thing. 🤷🏻♂️
The client has a great head of hair to start from, but he really needs to find a competent, experienced, open minded, creative, out of the box thinking cosmetologist to cut ✂️ and style his hair!
the final outcome was amazing and i really respect this guys sense of knowing what he wants personally, something that would save a lot of guys awful haircuts if they would ust speak up before the barber messes their cut up
When did being picky and descriptive at a barbershop become so "TOOLY". Isn't it the point? To explain and have a conversation, not just say "2-inch side taper" then it comes out sh#t and you regret not being more descriptive.
I guess I’m one of the few that actually didn’t get bothered by the “fussy” attitude. I had a haircut back in June that was disastrous and as a result I’ve been growing it out since. I think both Dan and the kid handled it maturely.
Amazing consultation! Subtly referencing his conflicting requests, confirming your intent as a pro and he finally says do what you think. You owned him.
@@flumpaustin1994 it is a consultation. Not a battle or competition. Educating your client as a licensed , qualified, professional while repeating their requests back to them so that they know you are listening to them. Also being able to educate your client to understand what their hair is capable of, what fits their face shape, and decide if it is a style that is conducive to the life style of the client to manage, or they need something with less maintenance.
Nearly 20mins until the first snip! As ever a great cut and it looked great! I think the overall experience for Dan was like when a dad brings in 3 young boys for a haircut; extra, extra effort!
Man Dan keeps giving out gems. Less than a week ago I had a “fussy” client, but like dan says. We love it, it’s a challenge and a chance to create with scissors. The results were basically the same, graduate the side, connect the top into the side. A little disconnection with the fringe. Taper the back and boom jobs a good one. Great work as always and teaching 💯 p.s Iv got two clients that started off like this but they showed me a picture of an animated Japanese character. Is this a thing else where?
I experience the same thing as this guy. I’ll get a good haircut from someone & then when I go back, they can’t recreate it even with a picture of what they did the previous time. It’s very very irritating & frustrating.
I'm hoping one day i can get to sit in the Regal Gentleman chair and experience this myself. I've always held on to my long hair, however i'd be willing to let get of it seeing how knowledgeable Dan really is and how much he cares about the end result and the fact you leave happy with your new haircut.
I’m so glad you were able to translate his spoken ideas into his dream style. Anxious people always overthink things so they fell in control, you were right to get him to let go and trust you. This was a tough one. Well done, Dan!
I hope you got a big tip Dan! I bring several pictures and then let my stylist just work their magic. You did a super job! He looks 💯 better with this style. Bless you for your patience! ❤🙏💐
Holy God! Dan, my applause to such a master. Very difficult client + difficult haircut, which is even difficult for understanding. High class, absolutely fantastic job.
Get so many customers like this that want contradicting things and just say stuff the have herd online and sounds ‘cool’ I learnt very quickly that the customer isn’t always right! I always say to my customers pictures are the best starting point as we both start with the same image and then can talk from there about what is actually possible with their hair and managing their expectations.
Hairdresser/barber .. I've dealt and deal with a few fussy clients but I usually find when they're like this they dont know what they want. They watch you tube , tik tok and try and tell me how to do it. I give patient professional advice but once or twice it has ran thin. My hair cuts are tad cheaper than 100 so if it's to much emotional and stress cost on my expense I would have to try my best then suggest they go elsewhere.
Rules of Getting Haircut: (1) Bring picture of how you want hair cut (2) Tell barber to make it look good _Why? Because you can never see no matter how many mirrors and angles you get, how the world ACTUALLY sees your haircut. That is what people don't understand._
The problem was that the client didn’t know the name of the hairstyle or how to articulate it correctly in technical terms. This is a straight up hairstyle from the 90’s called “Curtains”.
Lol at the barbers in the comments being annoyed that someone comes to them for a service and asks for something particular. I'm confused, isn't that why we pay you for a cut? Otherwise wouldn't we just buzz a 0 all over at home? If a customer being fussy rubs you the wrong way, you're probably in the wrong profession. Take notes on how this guy handles his fussy customer, polite and not so fast to knock him down, he has an idea and he might not be educated enough to explain it but he still knows what he wants, and in the end actually received exactly what he wanted BECAUSE he was fussy. The "too fussy for me" comments are just one example of why you're probably struggling to keep regular punters and highly likely doing "mid fades with short on top" all day long.
I wouldn’t call that fussy, he just didn’t have a proper description of what he wanted. He’s not a barber so he doesn’t know cutting techniques so he had an odd way to describe it
I think the reason he was fussy, was because he was stuck. A little apprehensive too. I actually think he's a sensitive person and Dan did an awesome job, bringing out and giving him what he was trying to imagine. He's a handsome lad and I think he looks good.
Dan handled that situation so well! As a customer you need to allow the Barber/Stylist to put there spin on the haircut and work with them for the best outcome. This turned out so clean considering how fussy this lad was, just proves the skill Dan has in communicating as well as cutting and styling hair.
Thank you sir for your patience with this younger generation, we need more men, fathers, uncles, Grandpa's , with the kindness of patience that you have, blessings to you and your business in the name of Jesus Christ.
Don’t be! Have faith in your ability and you’ll get there in the end. Honestly always see it as a positive that someone cares so much about their hair and is coming to you!
Dan a lot of patience here and professionalism here…he was particularly difficult all the way through I think his reaction to the end result was a save…great haircut by the end
Ariel was polite the whole way. Was a pleasure having him in the chair. It took a while, and being fussy is fine as we have the time, and we got there in the end. Always fun to have challenges!
Honestly he's kind of like me. I have trouble explaining my cut, and I tend to smile and laugh alot and I think people think I'm laughing at them where I'm more just kind of nervously laughing at just certain situations.
I wish I could be the next person to fly in from the states to get a cut from Dan! Although I don’t think I’d be as fussy knowing how good Dan is at his job 😂 great work as always!! 👏👏
You're always welcome! Do know though that we don't film very often - it's not a once a week thing, so we always say never plan a trip just for this! But if dates line up then please do apply! ❤️ Appreciate your support!!
Jesus, the skill of this man is unmatched, remarkable skill required especially under the circumstances. Encouraging me to get a cut just to enjoy the 45 min experience (also started barbering). Wow
This is a perfect example of knowing what you want, and then just being a little too much. When you have that much of a list of a demands, this is something where as a client to talk to your barber before hand through a text or a message (its 2022) so you know exactly what you want and it's communicated through with something so demanding and particular. Granted this was free for a video however, his list of demands was just too much and then him saying do what you want. Already admitting that he's trying too hard to explain something he doesn't understand but came in with a little too much confidence with knowledge he thought he had. Yes its his hair, however as Dan said, if you're that particular, stick with your one barber and ride out your hair mane. Barbers do have to listen to the client however, this is point in case being of respecting the barbers knowledge and recommendations but also valuable time. In this case he was blabbering and just digging himself a hole
@@heydudewhatsupdudethatsgre7788 I watched the video and took actual points and turned them into a constructive-criticism type reply so hopefully in the future, potential clients like the guy in the video can read my reply (as a barber) act accordingly so both parties are respected and no time is wasted (majority of comments also agree). Unless it's your world (which it's not; surprise) where everyone has to respect you and you only, I can see as to why someone with your level of knowledge would only reply with the counter argument of "over-dramatic." If anything, you brought nothing but wasted oxygen and time, and no tips or counter debates to disagree or agree with. Congrats, drama 👸
@@therp7773 the irony is that you have the same level of knowledge/reading comprehension as the guy you're trying to back up lmao. As I told your other low homie: "...you brought nothing but wasted oxygen and time, and no tips or counter debates to disagree or agree with. Congrats, drama 👸"
This was awesome to watch and learn as someone in the industry in regards to customer service. Is there more content about that/similar to it in the regal gentleman’s online courses?
Wow! I just started watching Dan and his work, being a hairstylist myself his consultations are so relatable. I really did understand this client but it seems he didn’t use the right words to explain his ultimate goals. Overall, I find men and boys to be much pickier about their hair but I enjoy their explanations. Dan is very talented at his craft!

I am watching this in 2024 and what a difference ❤
Hi! I recently discovered Mr. Dan's videos and immediately thought wow what a weight loss transformation! I didn't want to sound bad, so when I read your comment, I felt better about my thoughts.
It's 2024 and I had no idea Dan had lost so much weight!
Dear man, you have exhibited an amazing amount of patience with this indecisive baby.
I live in the US and I think this level of nitpicky is very common here, my barber thinks I'm weird for being so not concerned.
Lol this is the first time I’ve ever seen Dan annoyed 😂 rightfully so. Wow…patience was more than a virtue on this cut. Well done.

You cant be spending 20 minutes on a consultation in a normal Barbershop mate thats probably why
almost every barber does that, you're an elite meat rider
Has Dan gone through a transformation over the past year? He looks much different to me in more recent videos.
I was exhausted until the customer was happy😮
At the risk of sounding cliche, when I watch Dan cutting hair I see an artist.
Some stylists just cut hair, others are artisans with hair!
He is an artist of hair, knowledge of what Compliments the face structure with excellent cutting✂️👍💥

@Grimmlord Blakk 🤣🤣🤣
The client has a great head of hair to start from, but he really needs to find a competent, experienced, open minded, creative, out of the box thinking cosmetologist to cut ✂️ and style his hair!
the final outcome was amazing and i really respect this guys sense of knowing what he wants personally, something that would save a lot of guys awful haircuts if they would ust speak up before the barber messes their cut up
I’m American and one day I will visit London to have Dan cut my hair! I love this channel and his videos. He is the best.
When did being picky and descriptive at a barbershop become so "TOOLY". Isn't it the point? To explain and have a conversation, not just say "2-inch side taper" then it comes out sh#t and you regret not being more descriptive.
What a challenge, what a success. Dan is beyond art.
I guess I’m one of the few that actually didn’t get bothered by the “fussy” attitude. I had a haircut back in June that was disastrous and as a result I’ve been growing it out since. I think both Dan and the kid handled it maturely.
Don't try this at your next appointment. It'll be the fastest cut you ever had.
This is why you should have a photo of what you like for a complex haircut.
Amazing consultation! Subtly referencing his conflicting requests, confirming your intent as a pro and he finally says do what you think. You owned him.
"Owned him"? Like it's a competition or battle? 🙄
Tears of joy! Says it all! Amazing!
You are a master at communication with your clients! Then you do your magic!
Is this a thing else where?
let me guess the character that they showed u were the guy with a mullet and a guy with a middle part 😂😂
@@kxr9663 yeah I have zero clue to what that means but….. yeaahhh I guess no
I experience the same thing as this guy. I’ll get a good haircut from someone & then when I go back, they can’t recreate it even with a picture of what they did the previous time. It’s very very irritating & frustrating.
This happened with my wedding hair 😫. Oh well it was a shadow of things to come lol.
Great cut for someone who did not give easy directions on what he wanted.looks awesome.
Nice to see his face! He looks “all grown up” now.
A lot of men don't know how they want their hair cut so they just keep getting it cut how it's been since they were 5. This is probably new for him.
One of the best barbers out there....with a good knowledge of hair types.
Rules of Getting Haircut:
(1) Bring picture of how you want hair cut
(2) Tell barber to make it look good
_Why? Because you can never see no matter how many mirrors and angles you get, how the world ACTUALLY sees your haircut. That is what people don't understand._
The problem was that the client didn’t know the name of the hairstyle or how to articulate it correctly in technical terms. This is a straight up hairstyle from the 90’s called “Curtains”.
Dan is so great at explaining his techniques. I'm really tempted to find a guy who wants a haircut! Haha
I agree with everything you said. A lot of bad attitudes out there. Excellence like this is rare sad to say. You need to love what you do.
Beautiful haircut, and yes, sometimes patience is really required. Another beautiful end result, love your work!
Thank you so much!
Dan handled that situation so well! As a customer you need to allow the Barber/Stylist to put there spin on the haircut and work with them for the best outcome. This turned out so clean considering how fussy this lad was, just proves the skill Dan has in communicating as well as cutting and styling hair.
Alot of patients you have Dan. Jeese. You did a great job and listened and look at that. Perfectum udo!
Awww he’s so happy
Thank you sir for your patience with this younger generation, we need more men, fathers, uncles, Grandpa's , with the kindness of patience that you have, blessings to you and your business in the name of Jesus Christ.
Now he’s gotta fly back every 4 weeks
Yes!!! 😂
as a barber this type of client makes me anxious af
Don’t be! Have faith in your ability and you’ll get there in the end. Honestly always see it as a positive that someone cares so much about their hair and is coming to you!
Awesome skilled barber.
@@RegalGentleman brilliant attitude to have guys, love this channel and love Dan
lol I literally commented saying “definitely from New York” and then he says he is 😂 couldn’t of been from anywhere else, definitely a film student
Honestly he's kind of like me. I have trouble explaining my cut, and I tend to smile and laugh alot and I think people think I'm laughing at them where I'm more just kind of nervously laughing at just certain situations.
That’s why you should research and find a picture of what you want.
Damn dude you lost a lot of weight in a year. Nice job.
Leave it to an American to tear up! 😂 I’m glad he really liked it. It looks fabulous.
Gen z are crybabies.
stereotyping, eh?
He looks great!!!😊 I LOVE WATCHING YOUR WORK ON TRANSFORMATION!!!!😊
Jesus, the skill of this man is unmatched, remarkable skill required especially under the circumstances. Encouraging me to get a cut just to enjoy the 45 min experience (also started barbering). Wow
Im a barber myself and mannn Dan you handled this like a LEGEND! 😂
That's a hundred times better than when he came in and there's nothing wrong in being fussy but I feel for his girlfriend if he has one!
Now he looks like a nice looking young guy. He needs to keep that style.
Lmaoooo you’re being so overdramatic
@@heydudewhatsupdudethatsgre7788 I watched the video and took actual points and turned them into a constructive-criticism type reply so hopefully in the future, potential clients like the guy in the video can read my reply (as a barber) act accordingly so both parties are respected and no time is wasted (majority of comments also agree). Unless it's your world (which it's not; surprise) where everyone has to respect you and you only, I can see as to why someone with your level of knowledge would only reply with the counter argument of "over-dramatic."
If anything, you brought nothing but wasted oxygen and time, and no tips or counter debates to disagree or agree with. Congrats, drama 👸
@@heydudewhatsupdudethatsgre7788 he talking about talking too much you know, kinda ironic isnt it. hahahha
@@therp7773 the irony is that you have the same level of knowledge/reading comprehension as the guy you're trying to back up lmao. As I told your other low homie:
"...you brought nothing but wasted oxygen and time, and no tips or counter debates to disagree or agree with. Congrats, drama 👸"
@@ElevatingInLife well if you count coment on youtube as one of your achievements , iam happy for you. but thas must be rock bottom to do that. 😆
I loved the interaction between you both. Satisfied customer. Job brilliantly done. Well done..x
The stuff we have to deal with in this industry would drive so many insane
If your client pays $100 per cut, as a male that cuts 4-6 weeks interval, it better be what I want 😤
I’m a teacher so can empathise. Dealing with teenagers and their parents can drive you insane too. I think any public facing role is really tough. 😂
Well done Dan ur are a true gent❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was awesome to watch and learn as someone in the industry in regards to customer service. Is there more content about that/similar to it in the regal gentleman’s online courses?
Yes! We have a full consultation course in our Ultimate Barber Course!
I understand the guy, I've been disappointed too many times when not explaining what I want properly.
