She kinda struggled a bit in the studio to hit the highest note in the chorus, but she sings it really well live.

They are in different keys. The finished output is in a lower key than what "the making of" had.

@@joshuaramon123Is that the main reason why pop music is in different keys? I'm a musician but I have virtually no training in comp or theory, just learning as I go. I don't have perfect pitch but I've had relative pitch since I was a kid, and it always puzzled me why people thought keys were so important. Since I hear things in terms of relative intervals, every key sounds basically the same to me. So is the reason to write in one key over another primarily used to pitch up and down to accommodate the range of a vocalist or instrument? Or is there a more musically fundamental reason to write something in G maj vs C maj?

The studio belongs to Max Martin and Shellback; she started working with them on Red (IKYWT, 22, WANEGBT), and continued on 1989.
** She has been a co-producer of all her songs since making Fearless in 2008.
**Taylor doesn't shy from rhymes, because she is a genuine poet; she adds in assonance, alliteration, internal as well as line - end rhymes. She uses near - rhymes when it works better than using a word that isn't right for the sentiment she wants.

Really nice! I live these behind the scenes. Traditionally, she writes all her songs. She top- lined folklore and evermore, which is unusual for her, but she usually writes all the songs.
You may like another behind the music, Diary of a Song, Lover. I enjoy this one too! Her songwriting process amazes me.

Taylor writes in journals and uses her phone to record any ideas.

Listening to strained voice is nearly as hard as actually doing it and Taylor knows that, so usually during the actual recording or live, she doesn't do it. Idk about male vocals but for women, it takes less effort to sing strained voice because it only reaches down the throat or chest, compared to actual belt which uses stomach. So Taylor probably used strained voice here to avoid draining too much energy and breath while working. Tho i must say for swifties, we probably prefer her deep, folklore/evermore kinda voice but her belting is something we enjoy once in awhile.

The lyrics are: "They say I did something bad" . Key is "they say." The entire reputation album is built on refuting the false narrative of the media and the haters. That theme is spelled out explicitly in Shake It Off from 1989; but a lot of people dismiss that as bubblegum pop (actually, they just don't get the joke. They are, if you look at it, the "Starbucks Lovers" from 1989, the ones who just don't understand). In a way, the theme pops up in her music ever since she released "Mean" on Speak Now. I have always seen the "dark Taylor" or the "angry Taylor" songs as an extension of the parody of her personality she invented for Blank Space; and I came across some interviews later where she said she re-used that persona on the first half of the reputation album. The theme of malicious gossip is still there on folklore and evermore: whenever you see a "they said" in a song, the " they" -- whether it is the tabloid tabbies who said she dated too much, or the "Rhode Island Set" who don't like her any more than Rebekah Harkness. . . . all of them just have their heads (collectively) up their asses.
