See if you can track down Andrew gough (the guy on the engine plaque) and visit him with the car and let him (assuming he wants to) tell us what working at aston and doing final car inspections was like ?

Good shout on Bamford - I’ve recently bought an early V8V (partially your fault, Mr Emm) and used their channel for some very useful pre-purchase information. Took it to BR for its first service and preventative maintenance last month and they picked up on a couple of bits I knew about already, as well as some non-urgent stuff that could do with being looked at later down the line. They seem to get a bit of online (PH) flak for Mike’s occasionally slightly too-honest demeanour, but the man really knows his stuff and was more than happy to let me pick his brains on a few things I was looking at getting done and I couldn’t fault the service I received from them at all. Looking forward to more DadB9 vids!

I can live with 'too much honesty' but didn't have a great experience with Bamford. Felt like I was doing him a favour by wanting to bring my Vanquish to him for or some work. Had to politely persuade him for an appointment because he hadn't done my last service, but then took no details, reg number and didn't hear anything more. Didn't take it to him and didn't hear from him. Just rude.

As soon as I saw you’d got the DB9 I’ve been hoping it would mean a Bamford Rose collaboration. Their channel doesn’t get the recognition it deserves either so hopefully a mutually beneficial partnership! Looking forward to it 👌
About the dog analogy, I can't ever imagine giving away my dog. I once took care of my aunt's dog for 2 years. Returning him back to my aunt was a difficult process for me. Also, about the DB9. If ever you consider selling it, I hope it goes to a really, really caring guy who will really take care of it and use it as intended. Oh, and find a DBS as a replacement. But I guess DBS in not-silver, not-black and not-grey is very difficult to find...
James, you can get trickle charger connectors that are designed to be mounted through part of an under-tray or in a non visible crevice in say the front bumper or wheel arch area that can be used to keep it topped up and also supply power to the cars electronics when the battery goes flat, might be worth talking to the Aston place about it as an option for convenience and as a failsafe.

Hi. I phone a few times and then Mike usually answers. I've been a few times and they're very busy, including Mike, the owner, who is very hands on. It's worth while persevering though.
If we weren't on opposite sides of the pond, I'd tell you to sell it to me when you're done! A glass-key DB9 is on my bucket list to replace my Audi S8, particularly if I can find one of the very few with a manual!
This car has clearly fallen into the right hands, albeit temporarily, to continue to be properly looked after 👍 It’s a shame there’s not an RSPCA type organisation for less fortunate cars being run into the ground.. 😆
The DB9 is a good looking car but to me the smaller V8/V12 vantage is absolutely stunning the smaller proportions just make it perfect, regarding the V12 vantage how on earth did the literary shoe Horn it into the vantage. James how you speak of the car and wanting to sell it by March it sounds like you're not over keane on the DB9, as a car hope you replace it with a nice vantage in green or bright Red which they look stunning.. Near were i live there's a Stunner on an 09i presume its the V8 in bright Red .
If youre planning to sell the car around March isn't it quite pointless to cut the cats out? Im just thinking how someone might be looking for a stock one or maybe wants to do something else with an exhaust. Stunning car just at it is
Don’t know if the battery draining might be similar to what you get with the jags, if you don’t double lock the car (press lock twice on key fob ) it can leave some systems like the sat nav running. I found this on my xkr might not be relevant but you never know similar era of vehicle
I had to replace all four Multimatic Dynamic dampers on my DB9 after about 42k miles, following an MOT failure on two very slightly weeping dampers. Did all the work myself, but as you say the dampers are not cheap, about £700 per corner. I was going to have them rebuilt by a specialist but once they received them I was informed that they are crimped shut making it impossible to access the internals without physically cutting the top of the tube off. Right to repair? This is obviously an Aston Martin / Multimatic decision to force you to purchase new items. I did consider using the later Bilstein dampers but as my DB9 also has the Sports Packs I decided to keep it factory and go down the Dynamic route. I thought the car handled well prior to the work so I was surprised at the difference once the work was completed. Love the car, love working on the car but Aston Martin parts prices are off the chart. When I do find parts that are sourced from other vehicles (ABS sensors & track rod ends for example) they are a quarter of the price Aston Martin are charging.
I have a dilemma whether I should buy a db9 or vantage. I personally admire the db9 the most for its beautiful looks, the sound and power of the v12 and the whole vibe i get from it. At the same time, I love the vantage with a manual, which is perhaps a better sports car. I kinda get the analogue and lightweight driving pleasure with my Toyota GR Yaris, so i might be fine with a "softer" gt witch dont include all that. I want an aston but witch one would you combine together with a GR yaris?
Of your 'PTC' technique Jay, I would love to know; do you write a scrip to which you stick to rigidly, or do you prepare the 'jist' of what you're going to say, or do you completely ad lib the whole thing? You speak so clearly without 'hesitation, deviation or repetition' (as they always said on 'Just a Minute'), not a single um or ah, no time lag for your brain to catch up, and no tripping over your worms - sorry words (and we know you're not using a teleprompter/autoque!). Just how do you do all that? I want to do all that, but can't.
Thanks to you i've been looking for DB9s here in Germany for some time now. From what year on would you say the DB9 should be? Heard the very early ones are to be avoided but i have no idea which Years should be avoided Anyone else who can answer that, feel free to respond as well Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Well done. Exchanged a high mileage Maserati Grandsport for a problematic DB9. Old Cayenne,550 and F12. Should the channel be called Moneypits to avoid?
I'd keep it on an Optimate / CTEK if I were you, and find and ditch those old trackers. Nothing kills a lead/acid battery quicker than totally discharging it. They don't even like being more than nominally discharged.
That is how I would feel. I am the kind of person to really only cherish one "nice" thing at a time. Not from a financial standpoint, but, just extra work I suppose to keep things in top shape as I do prefer to do my own stuff.
Personally given your choices, I would say DBS, as Freddie Tavarish has one, is driving the nuts off of it, so you'll know what to expect, and you can go over and test drive it the next time your over, as the DBS is just so much more a pure, simple clean design, the rest are trying too hard, and the first gen Vanquish is really best as the S model, which is pretty much just a DBS just made earlier and the V8 however suffers from Porsche syndrome, as your never quite sure if you have the right one, and I cant help but feel they sandbagged it abit to hold it back and now if you want what the V8 should have been you might as well get the real one that it stole its name from that is lightyears more charistmatic, beautiful and capable, the original V8 Vantage, granted as you demonstrated your better off going for an 8 and then just manual swapping it and given its using an american transmission from a 440 mopar, just like a Jensen, it should be a simple matter to order a Tremic T6 and have it fitted and by then you have something really unique that you'll just forever be happy with, that is also a usable classic in the fleet which you cant really get save for maybe a mark II that's been looked after and has been fitted with the latter 67 and on Transmission that actually has a synchro for first
Hmm, as someone who (at least in the past) used to leave my car at the airport for 5 to 12 days regularly for work (yes, in a valet parking facility), having to keep it on charge, or hope to pissing around at midnight or later with a jump starter pack in the boot to ensure I could get home is unacceptable. That alone puts this car into the "shitheap" category for me. Always wanted an Aston Martin, but if they can't make a car with unacceptable parasitic electrical issues - will avoid.
I am reasonably confident the drain is not of Aston's making. My Ferrari had a similar issue - would be flat in four days. Cause was an old tracker trying to look for a signal that was no longer there. Took the tracker out, battery lasts weeks

No - the model still isn't the one I want, so it'd be madness to change it
Thanks to you i've been looking for DB9s here in Germany for some time now.
From what year on would you say the DB9 should be? Heard the very early ones are to be avoided but i have no idea which Years should be avoided
Anyone else who can answer that, feel free to respond as well
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
I would recommend at least the model with the glass key - this is around 2008 onwards. Prost!
I think you should put nitrous and an air bag suspension on it. Oh, and a Fast & Furious license plate frame. Chick magnet extraordinaire!
Lol
Im surprised how cheap the DB9 is £29 grand on Autotrader for a V12 engine grand tourer not bad at all man
James has your db9 had issues od major repairs about misfire or tick ?
It had a misfire sorted under Ben's ownership
Jay. Love the films. Do you wash the cars at all? They always look like you just went off road with them.
I also have an 05 green db9
Does owning all these exotic ‘broken’ cars not give you anxiety?
I couldn’t even get my head around 2 Z4s and 2 motorbikes.
That is how I would feel. I am the kind of person to really only cherish one "nice" thing at a time. Not from a financial standpoint, but, just extra work I suppose to keep things in top shape as I do prefer to do my own stuff.
Sounds very much like you’ve already committed to off loading the DB9 in March whether you liked it or not!
Best laid plans of mice n men. Let’s see what March brings, and what pulls the heart strings
Ooh, suits you sir! 😅
"Just 3". Ive got 2 kids and thats 2 more than is sensible!
Wow! Must be the first time with a decent shirt :)))))
We're riding with ya.
Personally given your choices, I would say DBS, as Freddie Tavarish has one, is driving the nuts off of it, so you'll know what to expect, and you can go over and test drive it the next time your over,
as the DBS is just so much more a pure, simple clean design, the rest are trying too hard, and the first gen Vanquish is really best as the S model, which is pretty much just a DBS just made earlier
and the V8 however suffers from Porsche syndrome, as your never quite sure if you have the right one, and I cant help but feel they sandbagged it abit to hold it back
and now if you want what the V8 should have been you might as well get the real one that it stole its name from
that is lightyears more charistmatic, beautiful and capable, the original V8 Vantage, granted as you demonstrated your better off going for an 8 and then just manual swapping it
and given its using an american transmission from a 440 mopar, just like a Jensen, it should be a simple matter to order a Tremic T6 and have it fitted
and by then you have something really unique that you'll just forever be happy with, that is also a usable classic in the fleet
which you cant really get save for maybe a mark II that's been looked after and has been fitted with the latter 67 and on Transmission that actually has a synchro for first
I really enjoyed your bike videos. I think you only did 2. Are there more to come?
Yep - lots more
...drilling for instalation of wired RW camera? Why? Wire can go through holes manufacturer already made.....
JayEmm - "Doing car ownership properly". 🚗
You are long overdue for a Bmw e63 m6 review
Yes
All V12 Vantages had Bilstein dampers
An aston martin would be a nice change of pace, but i will always be like "Old Jags all the way!"
Did you sell this yet?
You’re a very lucky man, I’m green with envy .
Bamford rose 💪
I wish I could just randomly buy an Aston Martin.
In.my.mind this when Aston Martin were at there best. The DB9, V12 VANTAGE and the VIRAGE are just timeless and just so sexy.
Enjoy i am now on my 3rd Vantage they get under your skin
Turn it into a Bond car
put a SECRET WEAPON exhaust on it !!!!!!!!
@@JayEmmOnCars Good stuff, definitely sounds like it's sorted.
If you are taking requests, will you please put a nice black vinyl wrap over the chrome door trim.
Thank you!
Bankruptcy? 😅 I'm just teasing J.
If DB9, then only MY 2014.
