In this episode of The Muslim World Roundtable, we explore the rise of remote work and how it's creating new opportunities for Muslims seeking to make Hijrah. We sit down with our brother, Abdoul Rahime Diallo, who transitioned from a background in business to becoming a software engineer, driven by the desire to live a flexible and fulfilling life abroad. Learn how he started his journey, built a successful career, and is now helping others achieve the same through his Coding for Hijrah (codingforhijrah.com) initiative. Discover the challenges, opportunities, and insights into making a successful Hijrah through tech skills.
Assalamu alikom , I am both surprised and proud of you brothers. While some Muslims are going to Non- muslim countries, you are doing the opposite and going to Muslim countries and make Hijra . I am from Egypt and I am happy to help with any information you want to know about it.
At bottom, it's not surprising. The fabric of society in the West is set up in a very "anti-fitra" way. The heart naturally rejects it. One example is hyper-individualism. Coming home alone to Netflix 1,000 times over gets old, and the heart becomes sick. There isn't really a huge push for community unless you go out and seek it. People don't help each other as much, etc. This is a MASS widespread phenomenon that's affecting non-muslims too. This isn't how we're supposed to live life. The West is a place where men can marry other men, and they call it "progress". Again, it goes against the fitra. We can examine the corruption of food, education, and ubiquitous use of riba - basically every facet of society is corrupted. What is so great about the West? Do people flock here because we have better gadgets? The education? The healthcare? It's all devoid of Allah's blessing. Sure, there are many great things about the West. But after you're here for 30+ years the sickness can seep in. And it's easy to get that "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome. People in the East really want to come here, and for them, it may actually be the right move. It's all context-dependent in the end. The right move for someone else may be the opposite for me. We're all in different situations and Allah has different plans for us all.

JazakAllah khair for sharing this insightful discussion! As someone who made Hijrah to Egypt and built an online business from the ground up, I completely resonate with the importance of remote work and financial freedom for Muslims. The flexibility it provides is truly life-changing, especially when aligning work with our values. I also share my journey and tips for building online businesses on my channel, hoping to help more brothers and sisters find their own paths to success. May Allah make it easy for all of us!
I believe the Muslim ummah needs to become more self sufficient and independent. There are many skills you can learn an leverage for income without employment. Employment puts you in a state of dependency and if the company decides you are expendable then you will be forced to book your ticket out of the country you have invested your hopes in. The internet is vast. You can sell your services or products to anyone in the world, you can teach, you can create softwares the opportunities are infinite. May Allah swt grant us all knowledge and self sufficiency.

So, not every country has what is called the digital nomad visa program. The countries such as Spain and Malaysia, which have the digital nomad visa program, have different requirements. For example, under the rules for Spain, your work must be from a company outside or from clients not within the country. In other words, you cannot derive an income from inside Spain. You must also have one year experience, health insurance, no criminal record, an undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree or three years of work experience, and proof of a monthly income exceeding $2,600 USD. You will have the option to apply for permanent residence after 5 years and upon proof of speaking Spanish. Family members can join you. Whereas in Malaysia, your income must come from a company or from entrepreneurial endeavors outside of Malaysia and your work must be totally within the digital space, eg. content creation, digital marketing, etc. You cannot have a criminal record and you need to prove that you have an annual income of at least $24,000 per year. Malaysia does not offer residency. Spain is far more flexible than Malaysia regarding the type of work. Please note that the rules are changing after November 10, 2024 for entry into all EU/Schengen countries. Visa-exempt countries, eg. US and Canadian citizens will need to apply for travel authorization before entry. Do your homework because this system is designed for more control over your travel and to limit who can enter EU/Schengen or NATO countries.

As Salaam Alaikum. Al-Hamdulli'lah, these brothers speak to my life over the past 25 years. After coming back to the US in 99' , I am a UC Engineer and my motivation was the same, also I started a "project" called Teloptic EDU to train our youth between 18-25, although many of my students were older. To this day I an providing information and guidance on free and low cost training and remote / gig economy opportunities. I will be reaching out to our brothers Insha Allah. #changinglives
I admire what this brother is doing. Allah grant him and his students tawfeeq . I think it should be clarified though that a four month course does not make you a software engineer, rather a coder. An engineer in any discipline requires a college degree in the discipline. Most employers also require a degree for these positions except for maybe some startups that have tighter budgets.
Such a beneficial. Is it possible to do something like this for those in nursing (I’m a brother)? I think it would those in the medical field for those who want to make hijrah. It would be nice to know the level of opportunities that exists with this and how we can make the most of it, especially in the gulf countries like UAE. JazakumuAllahu Khayran again for another insightful and beneficial video. Special shout out to the guest and his amazing projects. May Allah bless him and his family.
You would need to skill up, check in the hospital you're in now, don't go to a Muslim country as a nurse, you will have zero respect and even less money. Find a course or position that will train you to become radiology or something else, talk to the hiring people to see where there might be openings, get that training done first. Even check other hospitals. If in the UK check the NHS website, if in the US check each hospital close by. Unless you can find a wealthy family who will pay you to look after someone privately. Skill up today now!!! I wish you the best brother, I'm struggling with zero skill trying to improve. Keep going, Don't give up, asking Allah. Peace
@@MrXlee1967Islamic countries actually pay more then the NHS/ U.K. nothing wrong working there as a nurse, it’s just that Arabs tend to be demanding. This is the feedback I got from a brother who moved to Saudi as a nurse. The issue was the relatives of the patients. He moved there cos he wasn’t making enough as a nurse in the U.K./ If you are from the west you get more money as a nurse than those from Africa and Asia . Radiology is another long degree and extra expenses. It’s still healthcare, and they also have their challenges
Asalaamalaikum The only thing im not sure about with website design is image making im not sure images of living things are permissible so im not sure if i should go into coding or website design?
Tech is definitely an industry more muslims should get into. Specially our communities. The brother said certs don’t matter, I don’t agree with that. Cert are good for people who have no experience. They can provide an entry point. This industry is shady in that your pay will depend on certs and experience. Its better to have both. But one of the two can get you started.
I want to make hijrah from New York City. I was going to sign up for triple tech for software engineering can you please give me advice for the sake of Allah
This is not true. In many countries, such as the UAE and KSA, you must have a work visa to stay for any long period of time. For instance, if you purchase a home in the UAE, they will grant you a long-term visa. Please check the country and the stipulations they require for residence.
For the sake of hijrah, would it be better to go learning to code and software engineering path, or do you think it's possible to go cybersecurity route? The reason i ask is because my main goal is hijrah, but I've already started a cybersecurity course. Im okay to learn coding, but i am curious to know if anyone has any insight on whether cybersecurity has remote opportunities as much as coding jobs do.
Asalaamu Alaikum, I’m overseas and looking for a remote job where you don’t have to be on calls because I have small children. Does anyone have any gems? I don’t think I would have the patience for coding. 😳

Asalaamu alaikum warahmatullaahi wabarakatuhu I have no experience or clue about coding etc. However wouldn’t A.I likely surpass this in the near future?
Wa Alaikum Salam akhi, AI is improving at incredible rates, it is already at a level where it can code entire Web pages and create programs. However this doesn't mean that programmers are redundant but quite the opposite, we need more people who understand how these machines work so we can create bigger better and more effective models. Secondly, A.I at the moment is powerful but still needs human supervision. Learning skills like coding will benefit your career regardless of A.I at the moment.
As-salaamu'ālaykoum, @ Brother Abdur Raheem: Great initiative, maa'shaa'Allah tabaarak'Allah! May Allah place barakah in it for all involved, aameen. I don't mean to be negative. However, I'm wondering, why would us (Muslims in the West) be favoured by an employer once we complete a bootcamp, when there's people in places like Pakistan who can (usually) code better, are willing to work longer hours and will happily take a quarter of the wage (compared with a wage we would expect)? I mean, if a company is hiring for a remote software engineer, etc, why would they spend more to hire us over a skilled worker in Pakistan (or elsewhere)? Can you clarify or let me know how we would get a competitive edge? Jazaak'Allahu khair.
