    2 Caligula's Horse recommendations:
    The Tempest is about 5 minutes and has a more standard structure but still pretty proggy and very catchy.
    Dream the Dead is about 8 minutes and is my personal favourite song. It's pretty similar to Graves in terms of feeling but no saxophone and less variation.

    This is already a classic for me. Top notch guitarwork, amazing transitions, epic riff at the end, a middle section to die for... Great, great song. Another personal favourite is The hand are the hardest, fits your 4 minute requirement. For a 8 minute song, absolutely Dream the Dead!

      I would like to hard second this: Hands are the Hardest is probably my favorite tune from these guys. It is INSANELY catchy. Every time I listen to that tune it burrows its way so deep it takes me a couple days to get it out.

    Caligula's Horse is absolutely amazing. This song is one of their best, but not my personal favorite. That would probably go to All's Quite By the Wall, Merigold, or Rust I think. You should also give a listen to the band Arcane, which features the same vocalist but has more of a post-rock, build up to climax kind of style to it, but it's also extremely good. Promise [Part 2], Unturning, Keeping Stone: Sound On Fire, Little Burden, or Nightingale's Weave would all be excellent tracks.

  • @TaylorBarrera
    @TaylorBarrera 4 года назад +4

    You should check out this singer’s previous band Arcane. Just about any song off the album Known/Learned. Of course I’d recommend the song Learned, but it’s a long one. Maybe instead try Unturning, Selfsame, Little Burden, or Nightingale’s Weave if you are concerned with length.

    I'd love to see your reaction to just about anything off the The Tide the Thief and the River's End; Dark Hair Down, Waters Edge, Atlas, or A Gift to Afterthought are a few standouts, but that entire album is fantastic.

  •  4 года назад +1

    Prop-rockg? :D Super happy you checked them out. Wizardry for sure, their music takes you places, full of emotion. This album is actually a concept album (somewhat...), and this is the last song, so maybe that's why the end is so... on the nose a bit. x) Idk I would listen to the last part even longer, it's just good ol' eargasm.
    Other songs to check out: Valkyrie, The Tempest, The Hands are the Hardest, Bloom + Marigold, Rust (these are on the shorter side I guess)
    For more Jim Grey vocals check out his previous band Arcane: Promise (part2), Unturning, Keeping Stone (both parts), Learned (a 23min long beautiful beast)

    Glad you finally got to this one. Such an awesome song and awesome band. I personally disagree with your feelings on the outro - that groove/riff is just insane especially with that saxophone in it, and I think it servers a great purpose of just kinda relieving some of the tension of the last verse, it almost kind of lets you just sit there and take it all in while the riff plays in the background. I bet it's also a killer section live.

  • @moccles
    @moccles 4 года назад

    POG rock.
    You have a talent for making keen observations on bands and their music that maybe occurred to me after listening to them for a long time or seeing them live a few times. and I don't think you're even taking notes?
    Haven't requested songs for a while but I want to +1 these few for your spreadsheet.
    Alcest - Ecailles De Lune (Part 1 & 2)
    Mono - Pure As Snow
    Dark Suns - Patterns of Oblivion
    Idea for a theme week: Songs that have only been requested once, or a low amount of times. Then they'll either be really underground or maybe really bad.

    Australia have so many great bands that straddle that alt/prog rock & metal styles. This singer has another band (hiatus/disbanded) Arcane, try Keeping Stone Sound: Sound of Fire.
    Also try Cog - Anarchy OK, Karnivool - Set Fire to the Hive, The Butterfly Effect - World's on Fire, Chaos Divine - One Door, Dead Letter Circus - The Space on the Wall.
