Klingon Academy is still my favorite Trek game. I love how the capital ships move like capital ships, the management of subsystems and targeting, away teams, all of it. And it was great to see Chang in action one more time, RIP Christopher Plummer
I will totally agree with this comment :) Often KA strikes me as the best ST game by far. Just the modding scene is far more current in Bridge Commander :)
FreeSpace 2 is in a league of it's own, mostly imo because they are totally different genre's. BC you control a 'capital ship' to fight other capital ships. It's not like you're in a runabout during the battle of DS9. FS2 you control a fighter ( or bomber ) and your task is to patrol, escort, intercept and destroy capital ships. The comparison's I guess are there as well. ST has the same feeling of initial doom built in it's universe, with the Borg for instance and the first battles with the Dominion. That's comparable to first encountering the Shivan's. Scale is still different though. FreeSpace never get's rid of that feeling off impending doom. Lucifer was already scary, then the Sathanas ow boy I still get chills from the cutscenes. @@TomUK737
Stellaris New Horizons is the greatest ST mod of all time. It has all the ship models, the galaxy is lore accurate (as much as possible), but its the quests that tie into the different ST eras that keep me coming back - from launching the NX-01 under Archer, to the Maquis rebellion, the work that has gone into it is simply astounding. Just be sure to go into offline mode in Steam when you play, or mod updates might break saves..learned this the hard way!
Bit late and a teensy bit off - but there's also Star Trek: New Civilizations, which is a split off mod from New Horizons - while it does include a lot of the content from NH, the basic differences are New Civ is more Stellaris base-game like in many of its systems, but also includes more beta or less well known canon and thus more ship sets and variations and of course playable races and alternate system functions like a temporal benefactor mechanic. It also has some more starting situations like being able to start as the Sphere Builders or the Borg Temporal Incursion if it had succeeded, that being the one from the movie. I lean towards New Horizons due to its canon options and general more canon feel, but every now and again the more free and varied gameplay has me spin up New Civs for a go, even if they are built off the same core.
It’s taken me a full day to get over this amazing review… how is it possible that mere mortals can work so hard and deliver continuous high impact, informative and engaging studies? The Star Trek Armada 3 for Sins of a Solar Rebellion is one of the best mods I have ever played. I have sank several hundred hours into this on Sins. Stunning ship models with so much Star Trek content inserted seamlessly into the game. The installation is very easy, you just need to drag the mod folder into one of the game folders. Highly recommended.
I have played it but not enough to make it a full feature. But always one for the future. Also want to check out the mod I found for Civilization IV. Appreciate the recommendation!

@@LTGamingRUclips conversions and retreivals of ships are ongoing. older and wackier mods will probably make an appearance at some point. Unfortunately, we are experiencing a dearth of modellers atm, but there are several good prospects out there.
I know I’m late to the party, but as someone that’s only ever played the mods (since I was a literal grade schooler), the mod I’ve been most curious about seeing fixed/fleshed out was the Galaxy Charts mod. They had an entire war-simulator in the works that came out pretty buggy and somewhat pointless due to the inability to make a save state in quick battle. This kind of thing with a little more content (being able to trade prestige for more ships in your squadron/getting yourself a new one, an ability to save within quick battle, maybe a way to generate missions from friendly stations) would be a lot of people’s dream Star Trek game.
Awesome really happy to hear that! Yeah its all about discovery for us and the lists should just be used as inspiration :) We have some great Mod lists on the way!
Just want to throw this in here but the many Star Trek mods for Star Sector. Start sector modding is just the best I love having ships from all corners of sci-fi being roughly balanced around vanilla so they can safely play with each other. All to the backdrop of Star Sector being more than just space combat. The living, breathing, politics, trading and combat is the perfect canvas for absolutely any mod.
A nice assortment of mods, I would recommend 'Ages of the Federation' for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion and 'Star Trek: New Civilizations' for Stellaris. Both have dedicated teams and take care with lore accuracy and produce quality work.
Sins of a Solar Empire STILL sells and mostly off the back of the Mods for it. Armada 3 is one of the best on offer and there's also Birth of the Federation made by the same mod team. That same team are already working on Armada 4 for Sins 2 btw so highly recommend keeping an eye on that 😊
As a "veteran" Bridge Commander modder, I can assure you there is BCMM v.3.1, currently in development. Infinitely better than Remastered; that just had more hype.

Sorry in advance but Elite force 2 "is not that amazing", but improving the textures (graphics) makes "picking up elite force 2 on GOG definately worth it"? Elite force 1 is a great game (also on GOG) for its time. Elite force 2 brought an improved look and new trekky and gameplay ideas that were great, but ruined it with bullet spongy bosses (with health bars) but was still a good game. They are story driven FPS games, so if you wanted an immersive start trek experience they are both great. if it rebalanced gameplay or added new story/situations maybe a top mod? but compare it to Armada 3/alliance mod/chronicles where they brought the star trek universe into a game that was not built for it, with music/sfx/ship models/multiple races/tech trees etc, with the thousands of mods out there, a high ress mod for a "not amazing" (which i disagree with) game shouldnt even rank up there. other than that great video 👍
My favourite mod is Star Trek Armada III and its only an honorable mention in this video, which is a shame. Playing as the Borg lets you assimilate enemy ships and they even get a proper borg visual overhaul when you do.

BotF is my favorite ST game to this date ( though closely followed by Bridge Commander with mods ). *DO NOT PLAY THE VANILLA GAME* Trust me, you will want to play the Error Correction Mod as a replacement of your 'base game experience'. Otherwise, once you get a couple of Defiants or any ship with a broken defense rating and you just put them on evade and you will bully any enemy with them ( sadly even the modders can't really fix what ships the AI picks as fleet composition which is quite the other balance issue ). Also, tjhe 'difficulty' scaling is mostly just how much the AI get's to cheat with his build queue which compounds the issue of not being able to directly influence which ships the AI likes to build/use. That being said.. in 2024 I still have DxWnd shortcuts for Ultimate Dominion Mod 3, Ultimate Mod IV, Uncivil Wars, Galaxies and All the Ages on my desktop
Been looking forward to some video's on BotF for quite some time, though I am expecting you won't get the same view count on them as with your other content due to the turn based gameplay not being as attractive on platforms as RUclips :( I just hope you will get enough views and positive feedback to make it worth while to make some content for the game and it's various mods. Overview and classic review makes more sense as playthroughs though, that's my whole point. You can put a lot off BC skirmishes into a video with reasonable length, a single BotF gameplay showcase takes a lot of time ( if not to view in real time, then it will require a lot of effort in editing for you ). Both scenarios don't bode well for long term content creation, the evidence is visible in the low amount of available content of this type. Most creators moved to shorter video's, that's why I am such a fun for instance of OperatorDrewski and his more then an hour long video's I can't stand shorts and I like fleshed out content with some depth.
