Wonderful work! Do you have a video showing how you installed the baseboard? I am Hoping to install a continuous baseboard from wall to door for a seamless transition
So the video is a couple of years old. So, idk if you'll see this, but my question is, is there a way to make a hidden door with the current door already there? Not building a whole new door. Maybe like a pseudo door in front of, so no matter which way the door opens it just sits In front of it? I guess the door handle would need to be changed to make it flush. can you still add the magnetic things and just close off the handle? Or overall does the door need to be replaced with a new door that makes sense for the project. Great job though!! I am highly impressed and I already can see this in the new house we are about to move into. Well new to us, its from the 1950's!
If you're going to make a hidden door then you'll have to use hidden hinges. This means you'll need to replace the door since the way the hinge operates will not work with standard hinges and standard hinges will be visible. For a hidden door to truly be hidden it will have to into a space like mine. This will allow you to cover all the gaps between the jamb and the door. Hope this helps and good luck!
So you had to reposition the door so the opening is from the inside. I really like the idea but sounds like a lot of work. I have my garage door in the same spot as well. Need to think about it before starting.
Yes but also the actually door has to be switched out since it wouldn’t work for this application. The hinges wouldn’t work on a traditional garage door. So might as well flip it around since you’ll have to get a new door in.
I've seen both videos about this door. Can we see somewhere how the hinge goes along with the added layer of wood in the finished setup? How it does not collide, the geometry of it..
Thank you so much for this video! I have been following it to make a hidden door at my house and it has been a huge help. I do have a question on the bits you used. I realize this video is a few years old but I have seen you respond to some of the comments recently so I'm hoping you might see this one! I bought the template for the hinges, but was wondering if you had a link or could provide a make/model number for the two different bits? I am struggling to find the right ones that are the right depth and have the guides in the right location. Thank you in advance!
Thanks for watching! You can get any flush trim bits that have a top bearing. Home Depot has them. I suggest getting a 1/2” for the shallow cuts and then 1” for the deep pocket
@DesignCraftWorkshop do you have any advice on how to adjust the depth on the bearing. I have a top bearing bit that is ½", but the template calls for only 3/16" to be routed out. How do I do this with a ½" bit with a top bearing on it? For the top bearing to ride along the template, a ½" of wood is removed when only 3/16" needs to come. Thanks again for any help you can provide!
@@jamiemckenna1726 a top-bearing bit is used with a template. So the bearing will ride along the template to cut out the shape. If you have a 1/2” bit, you should be able to cut 3/16” using a template that is 1/2”. You will lower the bit 1/2” (or whatever your material thickness is) + 3/16” (depth of the cut out) Similar to what I did in the video. However, my template was thicker at 3/4 I believe but the process is the same with a top bearing bit.
@@DesignCraftWorkshop Thank you for your quick response again! Makes sense. I bought the template from Sugatsune and it's only ¼" thick. And then I have the ½" bit. So I might need to find a 3/16" bit if I am using this template. Is that right?
If you're going to do this type of install often then it's worth the cost. If you're only going to install one, then I suggest using their included paper template.
Do you happen to still have the file you used to make the templates in your CNC? Would love to use it to make a 3d printed template. I just don't know the dimensions it needs to be. Thanks!!
Did you roughly guess how many hinges you needed? Cuz the 120 version can hold a max weight of 88 Lbs in a 3 hinges configuration. You have 4 of them but still... How heavy is that door? I am thinking to use two of the 190 wide on a 36x96 door at 143 Lbs
@@DesignCraftWorkshop I watched again your video, dont know how I got all this wrong lol Good job, looks amazing and I will definitely come back to this video when I start doing my doors!

DUDE! THIS TURNED OUT AMAZING!
Thanks man!
Yet another great video!!
Thanks guys!
Those hinges are so clean! And I can imagine how heavy that door would be 😂. Excited to see the whole project unfold 👌🏽
It was a heavy boy lol! I can't wait to get the living room done
The door turned out great, Bao! Love those hinges!

Such a great video and so many great tips in this one (as always!)

That is one beefy Jamb..How thick (dimensions) is it?..and How much gap do you have around the door & jamb? Thx.
2x4 if I remember correctly. Gap is about 3/32”

@@DesignCraftWorkshop thanks for your sharing! I'm thinking of 3d printing a template.
Hello Sir, is it possible to install it for bedroom? how can we put the lock? aside from the marnetic lock?
You could lock it from the inside using a surface bolt. I recommend a ball catch to keep the door in the closed position if the lock isn't in use.
How did you figure out where to place the Hinges on the wall. We are trying to do this and don't know how far in to place the Hinges.
If you follow the template they give you, it will have markings for how far from the edge you should place the hinge.
love these hinges, but I wish they were half the price haha
Yea they're pricey, but it's very specialized. Probably one hidden door per house is plenty lol

I don’t have it anymore but you can follow the technical data sheets on Sugatesune website. I used that to create the model
speaking of door, how about replacing those 80's kitchen cabinet doors?

Hi is the frame flush with the face of drywall or behind drywall?
The frame is flushed with the drywall.

I used the 190 and it's rated for 275lb using three hinges. That's the one I'm using in the video.
