That's what a motorcycle is supposed to be. Just the machine and the rider. No fancy electronics. No fancy aerodynamics or wind screen. No super powered engine. Just a good ol byke and the elements. I had a 1960's honda CB360 in the 70's. Best ride of my life. This bike is her replacement.

Back in India, both interceptor 650 and the continental gt 650(Cafe racer) are selling like hot cakes. The waiting period is somewhere between 3 to 4 months. And since India is its home market it is priced around £3200, which is an absolute steal. I am getting mine delivered next week.

Good review Mr F, the price of this machine may make us less inclined to baby it more than stuff double the price. When you pull up at a motorcycle dealer with this and ask them to show the cheapest machine they have, only to hear the words "you are already riding it sir! Reminds me of the old saying that "perfection is when there is nothing more to remove", rather than "perfection is when there nothing more to add" (complexity). Let's hope RE do well with it, the market for this in India must be massive!

Sales numbers might sound a lot in India but this is not even in top 30 most selling bikes. Reason is people over here buy bikes as a main means of commute. Most of the people buy bikes between 100 to 150 cc engine which is priced from less than 1000 USD. Talking about RE, they sell a lot of classic 350 for around 2500 USD. 650s are bigger for most of Indians also 4000 USD is out of budget

I remember it like that too. People who weren't in the market for a sports car suddenly wanted this one. I asked a Miata owner if the car was rear wheel drive. He said yes. I decided then and there that I would get one.
The same thing happened for me with the RE Interceptor 650. I had vaguely thought it would be nice to have an older British bike again. But the shift is the wrong way around (unsafe reactions) and my knee doc would prefer I stop kicking motorcycles. Then the reviews were so positive I couldn't resist.

CHEER'S ! I survived the 60's and always loved the look and sound of the British bikes. I rode a little suzuki smoker. LOL Later in the late 70's I worked with some guys who had bikes. I wasn't man enough to kick start my friends Norton 750 Commando but I never stopped liking the sound. I rode bikes all my life and finally gave them up a few years ago. Your review on this bike along with others has gotten the juices flowing again.... I might just do something stupid...
It's affordable and I live at the base of the Rocky Mountains. I can see myself going for a nice cool ride after mowing my lawn. It won't take up that much space in the garage. Did I mention that sound. Maybe I should order some S&S can's now! hehehe The demo's aren't even due here in Denver for a couple month's.
I've owned two Harleys and done the Sturgis thing. They are over priced and to problematic but have the sound I like.
I like the idea of a cheap retro that has the right look, feel and sound. My friends will call it a girly bike but I'm at the age where I don't care and I prefer to ride alone at my own pace. Nice to stop and chat at the Mountain town coffee shops. I watched this vid before I went to bed last night. My face began to hurt and then I realized I had this big stupid smile on my face daydreaming about carving the canyons again. Retirement is good. Don't have to ride with the weekend crowd. LOL Thanks for sharing the review. I am looking forward to seeing what you end up with and what you change. Your ridding a Royal Enfield in the Homeland Mister. Get one and enjoy it. If you tire of it I'm sure you won't have trouble selling it.

I don't mind the rear mudguard/lights as you say it represents the bygone era. However if you open the seat you can unscrew the rear mudguard and it's very easy to add a standard tail tidy. It's a bike designed to be personalised without too much costs. The mudguards can be shortened by undoing a couple of screws. I understand there is a scrambler version for next year.

This is cool, but as a daily rider I'll pick the classic or bullet anytime: Air cooled, single cylinder and many spares makes it much easier and cheaper to maintain and keep while offering enough power and more torque. Also, it is easy to swap the FI for a carb and have less vital electonics who could die randomly.

Nice to hear you Mr Fish, about Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Try your hands on Continental GT 650 too, which have been launched in India 2 months back. Hated RE bikes, but this 2-cylinder i650 & it's sibling Continental GT 650, are fresh additions, errr revolutionary by RE standards actually and made me gain plenty of interest, much like you. *Smooth & Lumpy* 😂 hehe

@ Mr.fish, As you enthusiaticly mentioned in this video of personalizing the bike by changing the mirrors and tail lights. RE has a 40 accessory catalogue which include bar end mirrors, better touring seats, compact LED tail lights, fork gaiters and lots more. They also have that S&S pipe that sounds great over the stock. Curious to know is this available in England as well??
