The actor who plays Hamlin is really great. When he's confronting Kim he's being real nasty until he hits a point of "this is too much. i can't keep covering up for Chuck". I like the characters in this show so much.
Hamlin was never the one who didn’t want to hire jimmy, he was just the one who gives the news
I love how Mike's speech about good guys and bad guys directly mirrors what is happening with Jimmy / Chuck storyline in this episode. Jimmy is the "good criminal", he does some slimey stuff but he does so to ultimately help people in trouble, and he takes care of his sick bro. Chuck is the "lawful evil", he is willing to use the law in order to stab his own brother in the back. Such a good show.
I have never 180’d so hard on a character before. This show did a great job with Hamlin
"You're not a real lawyer"... that's when the show really started
The way Jimmy says to Chuck "I thought you were proud of me" is heartbreaking
One of my favourite episodes. The way they lead you down the road to thinking Howard's the bad guy and then flip their card over to show it was Chuck all along - superb writing and character development. Badass Mike side story too.
This was it for me, the moment when I felt that Better Call Saul really ascended to the same level as Breaking Bad. It only gets better from here. The Jimmy/Chuck relationship is one of the best character relationships in the last decade. (P.S. your cat is adorable)
The scene where Jimmy confronts Chuck is one of my favourite scenes from this season. Must suck knowing the big brother you spend your life taking care of doesn't want you to succeed.
In the parking garage scene, the characters were obvious references to Grand Theft Auto V. Steven Ogg, who voices Trevor Phillips in the game and even looks like him in real life was present. The guy offering the job has an uncanny resembles to Lester Crest, who offers to do heists and stuff. Also, the names of the three protagonists of GTA V are Trevor, Michael, and Franklin. Considering that Mike is short for Michael, that also fits.
On top of that, Steven Ogg's character carries more guns that a person should realistically have, just like a video game character.
"if I need a gun I'll use one of his.." classic Mike
Let's not forget that Jimmy passed the bar, which is considered to be the most difficult test to become a true lawyer. Online course or not, he did work his ass off too, without even asking for Chuck's help and expertise might I add!
I totally forgot this was the Mike vs Trevor episode!!
Jesus! That's ridiculous. The scene where Jimmy found out it was Chuck who went behind his back and Called Hamlin made me so emotional. Poor Jimmy, he always had his brother's back and he looks out for his friends too, but no one takes him serious. Except Kim. The reason that made me emotional is that I know exactly how it feels to give all you have to your loved ones and getting betrayed by them. Shout out to Bob Odenkirk for his beautiful acting. 👏
I binged season 1 as season 2 was coming out and this episode... Oh boy. This was when I knew this show would be incredible. This is the episode that sold me.
This is the reason I look forward to Mondays!
I felt just as betrayed as Jimmy when Chuck revealed his true nature. I liked Chuck before this point.
The scene with Chuck and Jimmy reminds me a lot of Walter and Jessy when Messy became almost as good as Walter in cooking meth.
Now you know why Chuck is in the series. That's why Rita was distraught when she was telling Jimmy to take the deal from HMM. She didn't want to hurt Jimmy with the truth.
There's kind of a running theme in this whole series: those who have always taken the straight path in life to success are incapable of understanding redemption. They look down on everyone who failed, because they struggled so much to never fail, so the impossible standards they set for themselves are now things they set for everyone else. Chuck seems exactly like that in the final scene of this episode. He knows Jimmy screwed up his own life before, multiple times, and because he himself never did, Chuck can't bring himself to understand the concept of inner change. But it's still tremendously arrogant and cold-hearted to work against your own brother like that. The lack of self-awareness in Chuck's mind is really quite something.
