the very first think i taught my trainees , was don't be complacent as I ,if you don't like glass's that's all you but don't train them it is. the very most pain i ever had was a drill digging out rust in my eye, when doctor tells you if you blink you will loose this eye ,you just let the tears roll, all this said was me cutting them c's and q's when the Q landed on the rim of safety glasses and a hot burr burn right threw the glass and embedded in my eye so deep they had to tape glasses to my head and emergency rush me to hospital , your thought might be why wear them at all right now ,thing is the large Q shaving that landed on the rim of glasses saved my complete eye , i got lucky just with a sliver. i've had several surgeries since then with the last one quadruple heart bypass , nothing has even come close to the pain of the eye surgery. I'm 65 and this incident happened around age of 25.. i have noticed that every country other than USA has no real safety recommendations, that's cool how ever you make your money , but take these two thinks to heart mate protect your eyes and ears because having grand babies you cant hear and wearing trifocals to see suck. let the young feller go, let him learn from mistakes when he ready to kick loose you and him both will be proud of taught and learned mate

@hydraulicfactory explain what happens so that she understand what the impact consequences are. Such an apparent minor detail could mean that the end result is scrap. One other suggestion: is it may be better to not bore the entire inner diameter but leave a small ridge which you can use as a reference to make sure that outer and surface against the chuck are parallel? Right now you can only rely on your eyes and a large hammer to hope they are parallel. Leaving a small inner diameter reference ridge also is a good indication that the turned piece is properly in center (safeguard or double check) and when they do line up you make the final cuts to bring it to size.
