  • Day 3 on the trail, and for most people walking the wall, whichever side you start from, will end up on the famous Steel Rig to Housesteads section. This is arguably the best section of wall. Perhaps the most infamous tree in the world lives here at Sycamore gap, which found a lot of its fame from the film Robin Hood prince of thieves. However it is very photogenic in its own right.
There is a lot more surviving wall around this area that I was unaware of, so join me in this video to discover more Roman history.

Absolutely class this fella, excellent video. You cover as much as possible on this trail and as a viewer I’m glued. So pleased you got the weather, and lived like kings in that pub and bunkhouse. Great company, they look like smashing lads. My favourite part of the wall that, you really couldn’t of made a better film. Looking fwd to day 4. Atb, Dave

Thank you so much Dave mate for those kind words, really means a lot from a fellow creator 😎
I’m also so happy we got the good weather where it really counted, it made the best part even better 😁
Mike and Mark are definitely great company, I met Mike by pure accident but kind of through RUclips, a bit like how I met you in the Lakes, and mark is his best mate from childhood. The bunkhouse was awesome, more of that in the next video👍🏻
      Thanks for watching

Awesome! That truly is the best section, loads to see. I definitely wouldn't be liking a communal lavatory... (no thanks... LOL 😛)
I wandered around Housesteads Fort, and walked through that little forest nearby. The pub and bunkhouse were a real find.
Thanks for taking us along. Am looking forward to Part 4 Cheers

By far the best for views and history, you just need the other parts to complete the thruhike 😁
I imagine the communal latrine to be quite awkward 😂😂 That bunk house served us well and saved us from a massive downpour in the early hours.

Another great vid, and I totally agree that this is the absolute classic section of the Wall. I've walked this section so many times and I never tire of it's majesty. It's everything that we imagine the wall to be, and it proves just how determined the Romans were to achieve the result once they'd set their minds to it... such a marvellous race eh lol Glad to see you stuck to following the actual wall where you could rather than the new way marked path, way to go dude! Shame about that campsite problem, but a bunk house with pub more than makes up for it. Cheers, see you part 4.

A marvellous race indeed 😁 definitely don’t tire of it, and I’d like to do that other side of steel rig again, so much wall I didn’t know was there, and as you say much better to follow the actual wall, it was awesome walking that hill edge where the wall was, and definitely the original path as explained in the vid by the old stone style we crossed. That campsite was gutting at the time, they eventually emailed mark back while we had dinner, 2 hours later 😂 supposedly a prompt reply according to the site lol
Bunkhouse was great, I’m surprised you didn’t comment on the darts🎯

So, a few pennies for the 'trail gods' Mark. I think they were alright with you guys on this day. How neat was that the temple still being there. Loads to see on this stretch. The mile castles were pretty cool. Ha, tourists abound to - a fair few at the Sycamore Gap. I wonder what Kevin Constner thought of the wall? Was it impressive? Who could fail to be impressed with 2000 years of history - especially American. Well, some nice open country before hitting the posh pub. Good going - enjoyed all of that. Mark

Unfortunately pennies were all I had, I gave my last cash, meagre though it may have been. There is definitely a lot to see on this section, lots of wall, turrets, mile castles and forts. Lots of history to get immersed in.
I hope Kevin Costner found it impressive, they don’t really have that same kind of history in America and the history they do have they round led up into preserves. The pub was extremely welcome at the end of the day, and it was great to chill at the bunkhouse for a real backpacking experience
      Thanks for watching Atb Mark

@@MarkTayloroutdoors Every little helps eh Mark? I would certainly revel in the history like you were doing - more wall! I reckon Costner stood in awe. Good to hear of the pub and bunkhouse.
