Hey Marc. I have had a DX-300 for 15 years. Works well with a good antenna. Preselector seized up; but I got it unfrozen with penetrating oil in the gears. This is a common problem. Leave the gain on 10 for best reception. Never use batteries because they corrode quickly for some reason and leak into the case. Need to ground it firmly to earth or cold water pipe--some people forget to do this . Tuning takes practice. SSB fine tuning stops the "Donald Ducking" of hams. No need for any antenna if you only want the rig for AM/MW because the rig has an internal ferrite rod which works as an antenna.
