From Season 3, Episode 1: "Payback"
Watch The Boys on Amazon Prime Video: AAN.SonyPicture...
Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even as revered as gods. But that's when they're using their powers for good. What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it's the powerless against the super powerful, the Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. Based on the comic book series of the same name.

Don't get me wrong, Antony Starr deserves all the praise and credit he gets, but Karl Urban deserves just as much... I love all their scenes together
💯 every scene they're in they steal the show!
Idk, Urban is impressive but Butcher is all head tilts, exaggerated smirks and a goofy accent.
Starr as Homelander adds so much more nuances and subtleties and perfectly nails the vibe without feeling repetitive.

Id say more of a punisher kingpin type relationship, the punisher wants nothing more than to kill kingpin but the kingpin keeps the punisher alive because he cleans up the little fishes and keeps that way so that there’s no competition for him
They’re the only two that can and will openly call the other out on their bullshit, butcher treats the boys like shit and they won’t speak back, and everyone at vought is too scared of homelander to even disagree with him. They hate each other but they’re the only people they can actually be honest with
But who's who?
Butcher is the person homelander has always respected the most. He has little fear of him. Homelander even opened up to Butcher in this scene
but this never happened in real life, was in butcher's mind

In the beginning Homelander had some respect for butcher for what happened with translucent, but mostly saw butcher as entertainment. Then at the end of Season 2 after losing Ryan and Stormfront, Homelander gained respect of Butcher as his arch-enemy.
Butcher respects him because he treats him the way he knows he deserves to be treated, and isn’t afraid to do it, knowing he can kill him anytime he wants
Pretty sure Butcher is gonna take out Homelander since he's got the supe killer virus instead of him now. We all saw what happened with the bunny.

@squirrelsinjacket1804 nah lad they are going to make hot sweet love for the season finale
Homelander seems to respect people who don't fear him. Butcher knows he can't kill Homelander, but he's not afraid. Homelander's Superman power can detect body temperature changes, increased blood pressure, smells, etc. If he doesn't spot fear, he changes his tone completely.
Even Batman would be impressed by that disappearing move at the end.
Plot twist: he was just casually walking away but but out of frame
it could also be a subtle clue that it was in head, that this encounter didn't actually happen.
Both are equally terrifying.

What a fantastic quote and you know what, its very true
I'm sitting here thinking this was Tupac verse. Never heard of this song before.
@@dantern6168 first time I watched this scene that last bit of that song played in my head. The context was everyone around Homelander was being dismissive and acting dumb, so he went to vent to the guy who has some degree of regard which is his enemy.
😮 thanks ❤
I love that as deep of enemies they are, Homelander really has no one else at this point in the story to have an honest, raw conversation with. His psychology makes him such an engaging villain.
Deep? No pun intended.
Then what about Sister Sage? She's literally the "smartest person on Earth" so besides Billy Butcher, she's *also* another person whom Homelander can have an "honest, raw conversation" with as well apparently.
@@alsimmons4504 this is from last season before Sage was introduced. Also we see what happens when someone does try to be frank with Homelander. He says he can handle it but eventually his ego takes over. What he really wants is a lapdog who is just smart enough to do as he says without fucking up, but just docile enough not to talk back or make him feel insecure, which is what he has in Firecracker. Butcher and Homelander are different, they share a burning hatred and a disregard for life that borders on kinship. If they werent such bitter enemies, they'd be the best of friends feeding each other's worst impulses.

@@CJWII I'm *well aware* of the relationship between "intelligence" and "raw honesty" so thanks for the redundant explanation lol. Homelander: May I come in?
Butcher: That'll cost you another tenner
Who else thought homelander was using his x-ray vision and saw what was in his hand
I did at first, until the fight at Herorgasm. It means that Homelander was being 100% respectful to Butcher, refusing to peer in on him, asking for his permission to enter his home, and not damaging anything or threatening his life.

Surprised Homelander didn’t see Butcher put the Temp V in the jar, looked right at it
with how lazy homelander is with his heat vision, I doubt he uses his x ray a ton other than looking at a person's heart rate?
Two reasons
1. Homelander is too focus on taking to butcher to x ray vision.
2. The inside of the jar could be lined with the steel he can't see through.

For all we know, Homelander had just left as soon as Billy turned toward the 🫙jar
why do u guys think just because he has all those powers that he will use them every time? just because we can run doesn't mean we will always run instead of walking, it's the same argument I have seen people make about Flash, just because he can move at light speed doesn't mean he will do it every time because there are some severe drawbacks to it, The whole world would stop, he will go insane because of the boredom so it's easier for them to cut loose and use their cruising speed and no Flash doesn't see everything in slow-motion while running
The way the music changes when he stands for that window..
I don’t believe homelander meant a genuine physical fight as in they show up somewhere a fist fight. He meant it in the sense of “this is war” more of a long term thing between them, like chess, and yes it would likely eventually end in one of them dying (although homelander knows the power difference between them and he would instantly win) but he also knows about Butchers capabilities as a tactician, and his determination, and his lack of fear for anyone especially homelander. So it was in that frame if mind when they made that deal. And that’s also why homelander was genuinely surprised when butcher had powers in herogasm because it’s something he wouldn’t expect and didn’t/couldn’t predict.
Thing is he says they made a deal to "fight to the death" in the Herogasm episode. So that almost certainly means a physical fight; it's a bit weird to refer to a tactical battle that may eventually lead to one of their deaths that way.
It’s gotta come down to these two. The final battle. Season 5 episode 10: SCORCHED EARTH
Scorched erf
well now that Butcher has these crazy ass tentacle parasite powers, it'll be interesting to see how level the playing field is now. He took out Neuman and her daughter like swatting a fly. Definitely establishes how powerful he's become
I reckon they've taken these next two years because ultimately it will give the young actor playing Ryan Cameron Crovetti (sounds like a car or a sandwich) time to grow bigger he will learn of his mother's rape then get into a fight or turn completely evil and butcher will kill both , the deep was funny but his arc was one of destruction he can't come back from all the killing he must be killed himself 😮 love the show
I think it'll be a verbal confrontation between Ryan and Homelander
We would be so blessed to get 10 episodes. It irks my soul all seasons are just 8 episodes. I need so much more pause.
Home lander lowkey admires Butcher
Butt Stan comes first.
As powerful as HL is, he is constantly shackled by his need to be loved, and looked up to. He admires, and perhaps envies Butcher, because he recognises that he is free. Able to do what he wants, relatively unquestioned. A slave to Vought, even though he could wipe them out at will.
I love how it’s animosity and sprinkled respect in there, they can’t tell if they hate each other or each others decline more. Homelander pandering on tv and Billy inviting death
I knew he wouldn't kill Butcher but Antony Starr is so good I was on the edge of my seat for the whole scene, he's so good, Karl Urban as well
Why would he kill the only friend he has?
Mr Urban is such an underrated actor
No he isn't. By any measure.
You're tripping...
Feel like this is the adaptation of Stillwell's scene from the comics, specifically the way he shows up at the window menacingly. It's definitely not the same, but it might be their take on it.
I’m still hoping we get that scene from the comics tbh
He can be himself around butcher and probably feels butcher understands him to a degree. He doesn’t have to put on his media mask and actually will have a conversation with someone who is not just saying what they have to in order to survive. Only Butcher can give him that kind of conversation cause even tho Stan is also not scared he undermines homelander but Butcher takes him serious.
Their take on that was his scene with Stan Edgar that ended in him being called "Bad Product" which is the exact phrase Stillwell used for him.
@@benjaminb6678me too with Homelander and Edgar. That was the best moment in the comics.
Homelander knows butcher isn’t scared due to his heart rate. That’s why he respects him.
Always with the heart rate BS it's getting TIRESOME and boring
@@thetahreaper Exactly. People take one scene of HL realizing he ain't gonna intimidate Edgar into doing his bidding and tucking his tail in between his legs, and applying to every interaction he has.
It's more likely that Butcher is scared shitless of him, but keeps a poker face and can talk back to HL with brutal honesty anyway that gets him points in HL's eyes.

😂😂 *(**3:24**)* They way Butcher sipped at that moment. Made me realize he'd NEVER align himself with Homelander.
He kind of did against SB
When Homelander just sits down across from Butcher I knew this scene would be awesome
compare his "may I come in" in this scene vs when he first met sisters sage really shows how much he respects butcher to wait for an answer
For me this is where season 4 really fell short. Only having one scene between these two great actors all season was a crime.
Why do you think Butcher has new powers for? It's for Season 5 which will be the finale.
Shut up
Anthony plays his role so well that even though he's a villain, I will feel sad to see his character finally die. Homelander, Butcher, and Soldier Boy really do carry the entire series. (I wish Edgar would take the V SPOILER just like Ashley to make their characters more relevant).
Their dynamic is so well written.
Both of them need Emmy's now
I just like and how he asked for permission to come in to butcher's apartment. Anyone else he just barges in, butcher he has a lot of respect for her so that's why he asked first. Cuz you know deep down butcher doesn't fear Him
pitbull named cupcake (homelander) vs the pitbull named destroyer (butcher)
Terror dips**t not destroyer.
one of the coolest scenes in the show imo.
Scorched Earth ...shock and awe. No wonder the ending is going to be an eye for an eye and the series is gonna end pretty dark.
I liked how nobody mentioned the butcher monologue was a homage to the Dark Knight scene between joker and batman interrogation scene..😂😂😂 Joker was right, you got start off small you cant just go to the head all make victim all fuzzy..
Thought about that also, but I think that’s overall just a known point between people who work in that line of work, where they interrogate people by any means necessary.
This scene could easily have taken place in a bar, with the two drinking a beer and chatting the exact same thing.
Homelander never went to a bar (?)
The fact that Butcher is Homelander’s only actual friend
It does intrigue me how Homelander has basically found the only person in the world who can actually relate to him. Billy isn’t as much of a homicidal maniac as Homelander is (at least in the show the comic is a different story altogether) but Billy’s still very dangerous. And Billy will throw caution to the wind when it comes to getting even with Homelander, even if that means putting people at risk Billy will do it and not think twice about it. I think it’s really telling that they agree to the scorched earth ending, I feel like more than anything that says how much damage Billy would really do if given the chance.
The Homelander / Butcher conflict is the heart of the show to me
No matter what TV show it is, the story can be truly splendid when villains run into fearless and unscrupulous badass like Billy Butcher instead of nice but clueless people.
Imagine Homelander just sneaky levitating while still seating 😂
What’s confusing about this to me is. He’s challenging Butcher to a fight, when knowing he’s a regular man. He even said he could rip him apart here if he wanted to. So how tf you gonna challenge him to a fight, that you know you’ll win with ease.
With v butcher was able to put up a very good fight
Exactly 😭
he admires how determined butcher is willing to go to get at him and wants to fight so homelander will honor his wish 😂
It also feeds Homelander's ego knowing that butcher cannot actually fight him... That's why he 💩 when butcher took Temp V 😂
I think Homelander knows through pure tenacity he COULD find a way to kill him. Like how he was able to kill translucent
this scene could be a movie
I love how Homelander, even though he is neigh invincible, challenges Butcher, a regular human to fight to the deathe because he just knows Butcher is gonna do everything and find some way to hurt him
I want a spinoff that consists of these two hanging out at Butcher's place after work, roasting each other, commiserating, and watching soap operas while eating popcorn.

Interesting how Homelander refers to humans as mud people but when talking to Butcher he says "us".
clearly with how many times butcher has crossed paths homelander and is still alive shows he sees butcher as above the rest, probably above most supes as he actively treats most with disgust. I think its also because he desires butchers authenticity, butcher never has to fake who he is and homelander probably wishes the same as hes surrounded by fake.
In different circumstances they could be quite good friends probably, imagine such chaotic and dangerous duo
Homelander is so polite he lands and patiently waits outside and then asks “May I come in?”. What a sweetheart
that tea doesnt have any tea in it, shocking
I really think the only reason Homelander cares about Butcher is due to Butchers attitude. I think Butcher is the ONLY person to give Homelander a “no”. Not only a no but a no with attitude. He’s never met anyone like Butcher.
At least one of these men deserves an Emmy.
Scorched earth as a theme makes me wonder what the final fight between these two will look like. Even now that Butcher has super cancer tentacles like Venom. Season V, here we come, in 2 years time.
"Rip and Tear!" Yeah, Urban can get behind that for sure.
Butcher is probably the only person on the planet that Homelander can't intimidate or torture into giving him intel because he is pretty much just like him. Damaged beyond repair, only difference is Butcher seems to take pride in it I think more.
This is maybe a hallucination of Butcher, like in season 4
No, in Herogasm Homelander mentions their deal
This is my favorite scene in the entire show
It's pretty on point for this version of homelander that the person he relates to the most at this point is the person that wants him dead more than anyone else
I actually kinda admire homelanders dedication to wanting to be a father probably his only redeemable trait
They’re the furthest thing to friends as you can get, and yet, Butcher is still the closest thing to a friend Homelander has ever had. He could have killed him 100 times over but he won’t, because he entertains him too much.
Black Noir was the closest thing homelander had to a friend, Butcher was the closest thing Homelander had to a rival.
Probably the biggest wish for season 5 is for one of the episodes (specifically episode 7) to be called “scorched earth”. Idk what would happen but hopefully it will be a bloodbath!
Homelander is unmatched in strength and abilities and has disdain for every other person, but he appears to feel that Butcher is his equal in anger and supressed rage, and respects him for that like he respects nobody else.
Don’t feel like we’ve had anything close to this single scene in 5eps of s4.
While it was the weakest of the 5 so far, homelander facing his past was pretty compelling. You almost sympathized with him

Nope. He never took the temp V at this moment so he didn't have the cancer
Man asks to come in like he's a fking vampire. I could see him in the next twilight sequel.
People who complain about Homelander just being able to kill them all if he wanted to miss the point. Yes he could, but it’s not who he is. They’re a mild annoyance at best and he doesn’t view them as a real threat.
Somewhere, there's a parody where Homelander pulls out a tennah.

Its not so much that he challenges Butcher to a Fight. Its more like he is offering Butcher his death wish which includes burning the rest of the world around them.
by far in the series, there are only 2 ppl in this world that never ever get intimidated by Homelander, Butcher and Stan Edgar. Now i'm not saying the others don't have a guts against, but only those two that can keep calm and didn't event flinch when facing with Homelander
I keep thinking Homelander was planning on GIVING Butcher Compound V.
Both men have taken something invaluable from each other, yet still feel like their destiny is to make sure the other goes down, even if they go down doing it. It's a delectable revenge story where their disdain of being held back brings them closer to tearing each other apart.
You seem like a calm reasonable person
Homelander landed without destroying dude patio.
This was so dumb. Homelander didn't know Butcher would shoot himself up with V. So why challenge him to a fight? What chance would Butcher have? It's like Superman challenging Batman to a fight where he can't use Kryptonite
I don't think Homelander ever thought it is going to be a 1v1 between them, but rather Butcher trying to do him like they did Translucent, and Homelander trying to avoid that and eventually come out on top. And then finishing Butcher once he has thrown everything he had at Homelander.
He wasn’t talking about a physical one on one. Fuck. Can’t you tell from the dialogue and their history that it’s about wits ?
oof man, such a simple take on this. Homelander was referring to a battle of tactics and wits on a master level, last man standing wins. Homelander knew they figured out how to take down Translucent and other supes so is challenging Butcher to throw everything at him.
That's literally the point. Homelander is a narcissist. He knows it's an unfair fight he would always win and he's trying to stroke his ego.
After all this they don’t even talk in season 4, what the fuck
Exactly lol s4 was dogshit
They did in the first fucking episode
There is a difference between fear and hate.
Butcher hates Homelander so bad, that's why he is not fear about Homelander.
The most implausible aspect of this series is that Butcher is still alive. Homelander would have killed him at the end of Season 1.
These 2 and Stan Edgar are the best things about this show by far.
Homelander could've seen and smell the Temp-V.
I know Homelander hates Butcher but he does respect him because there is no B.S. there is no pretense between the two of them.
I imagine homelander was looking through the walls just to check for ryan. How would he not have seen the temp V in the cookie jar
So my biggest question is wasn’t homelander able to see through walls and be able to see what butcher hid in the cookie jar ?
Assuming he even considered it to be interesting enough to look at.

Homelander only made this challenge cause there is no physical way butcher can kill him
He didn’t know about the temp v. So you’re right yes but That’s why after herogasm homelander was scared
Homelander really respects billy in his own fucked up way
He knows butcher is just a petty little human he could snap like a twig if he wanted to. But he doesnt, because billy knows who he is, what he is & he just isnt afraid. He is amused & intrigued by it. Billy is one of the very very few ppl homelander will honestly open up to because of this. Because what is there to hide when you’re with someone who’ll honestly not be surprised with anything you do or think?
There's always been an interesting mirroring of HL and butcher. This last season they were both losing it, season three they were bonding over how Newman and Vought were both watering down their businesses. I'm sure S1 and s2 have parallels too.
I'm not onboard with that friendship 😂
It’s crazy because in the comics both at the end really went scorched earth Homelander killing the president, and butcher taking out his friends just to get to Homelander.
Homelander died before the boys did, unless you are talking about other folk.
