  • The witty ideas of the group, founded in Paris in 1972 by Andres Bossard, Floriana Frassetto and Bernie Schürch, have been carrying away audiences all over the world. So much so that MUMMENSCHANZ have come to mean far more than a name. The work of the group has become a form of art which has put its mark on the Mime-Masque Theater, and impressed few generations of audiences. Showgoers of all ages and culture who, led into the creative work of MUMMENSCHANZ, witness weired timeless creatures and incredible colourful forms compete to enchant them.
Today MUMMENSCHANZ denotes far more than a name. MUMMENSCHANZ has become a myth - a myth which both lives and keeps cloaked in mystery. MUMMENSCHANZ at once solemnly tackles everyday's problems and make us laugh of an unbroken laugh. Tomorrow is right now - so, follow the Musicians of Silence, the Musiciens du silence, the Virtuosen der Stille, on the company website, and ..."Enjoy the Show!"

I first saw Mummenschanz in the mid 70's, as a child of 9 or 10. You used to appear on certain TV shows - I believe the Carol Burnette Show was one of them. I was fascinated by the organic and surreal "creatures" appearing on stage and I still am today Wonderful performance.

3 days ago I was talking to a coworker about theater. And I remembered this group.I told her I went solo to see them, when they performed at The Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia in the late 70s or early 80s.I just remember some tube like sculptures on a black stage. For the last 3 days I've been trying to remember their name.I knew it was 1 name. FINALLY!it came to me today.I can't wait to show her this video on Monday.

I love mummenschanz, they are seemingly displayed as scary, and not appropriate for children, though I believe that is bias. They have a way to entertain and amuse not with words, but actions. They have this cool and unique little ability to tell a small story with no words included. I think they are amazing, and I hope you believe that too.

Phenominal! I somehow stumbled upon this art of Mummenshaz and was wondering if its still alive. Most videos I found were actually quite dated, this is super intriguing. I would love to see one in person but I feel like there arent very many productions. Very happy to have learned about this art, it is quite relaxing actually.

I saw a couple routines they did on a program 30 years ago when I was a kid. It was so long ago that I could not remember anything other than a couple segments, one of which involved the notepad heads (turns out it was a Johnny Carson broadcast in 1990). I searched for years to find those routines again but without any details, not even the name of the group, it is hard to even know where to begin. Then came some chance vague reference in a Robot Chicken episode (of all places) and to my delight I found them again. Of course I had to check to see where they are touring. I got my tickets and can't wait to see them in February.

It's really too bad that this clip has music. The show we saw had no soundtrack other than the sound of an insect buzzing during the "frog" segment. To really appreciate this, run the clip with the sound off. (unfortunately, that will mean that you won't hear the rhythm created by the character with the cymbal or the sounds of the two violin characters. The music absolutely kill the power of the performance.
