I love this topic!!! I thought I was being nit picky about my Chanel’s squeaky chains... On the Loulou I know the wrinkling would drive me nuts so I appreciate hearing the cons of even the most beautiful bags 😅
My favorites are my two Hermés Birkins - you can put a ton in them, and my Givenchy Antigona bags. I have that exact same black moc croc and I also have that same size in the cognac moc croc. My other Antigonas are the medium size in black, a beige and grey. The zippers on the Givenchy Antigonas are the best!
Great video! The loulou puffer bag curves because it’s fit and puffy and when you carry it on your shoulder your elbow digs in the middle part. I have the same issue w/ the strap of my antigona so i make sure to always rest the strap on and pick it up from the front of the bag because the opening of the D ring is at the back.
I have the mini Alexa and use a bag liner for all my luxury bags, I don't have the issue with closing when using the bag liner as it gives some structure. Great video as always.
I agree that the classic flap needs an in between size. I love my jumbo but it is on the big size. The medium I find too small. The reissue 226 is the perfect size and you can crossbody it. It’s my favorite bag.

I had the same squeaking issue with my chanel business affinity! It was my first luxury bag and I because I bought it preloved, I was worried about the authenticity until reading that the squeaky chains was a common thing with chanel bags. It seems to happen with some batches of shiny caviar!
Super informative and helpful! I have a Saint Laurent small Lou Lou and one of the issues is the magnetic button. I’m always worried about closing it without causing stress to the leather as it bothers me when it shows. But I still love the bag so much!

I was just organising what I needed for work this week and, even though I am trying to get more use out of my other luxury bags, I went for my LV Neverfull GM again! I don't have to be precious with it. It is light so packing it with everything I need isn't an issue. Everyone has it for a reason. Not the most attractive bag but so so good for real life.
Great video, Amie. My biggest regret with my LV Neverfull in Damier Azur is that I wasn't aware how much color transfer would affect the canvas itself. I have a GM and love(d) it, but jeans stained my bag pretty badly. I had it professionally cleaned, I've tried cleaning it and it is less noticeable but still not great. I have another bag in Damier Ebene and absolutely adore its durability. I truly never worry about that bag. I only wish I'd bought my Neverfull in Ebene too.

I love the videos that show the negative sides of luxury bags! Thank you. I have never heard of chanel squeaky chain issue. But that really would bother me, and make me feel soo self conscious. So you just saved me thousands of dollars!
I recently picked up a vintage coach leather kiss lock Parker. It has Napa leather looped through the chain and the chain squeaked a lot. What I did that really helped was to condition the leather that is looped through the chain. The leather is now supple and not dry so it doesn’t squeak anymore against the chain.
You do a fantastic job of explaining the cons. For sure it is very informative. I do think Antigona is a classy and beautiful bag, but every time I picked it, it felt very heavy for me, even the mini size.

Hi Joyce! Colour transfer has very little to do with the type of leather and more to do with the colour dye on your clothing. That said, some leathers are more difficult to clean than others, i.e. patent leather. There's a video I linked in the description section that shows how I protect against colour transfer :)

I've used several providers in the past and they've all allowed me to insure my bags. I tend to use a comparison site because I do find the amounts vary massively from year to year. At the moment, I use Barclays Insurance.

I have one question, I've been lusting over the YSL Loulou Toy bag but I'm a bit scared of the smooth leather. I wear a lot of jeans and I'm scared that it will stain on the bag... I'm asking because it already happened to me with suede leather (even after using impregnating spray) but I imagine that I'll have the same problem with this type of leather. Did this happened to you or do you have any tips? xx
Hi Tracy! So if I'm particularly concerned about a bag, I'll colour lock with Scotchgard or Collonil Pro on both my denim AND the bag. The double protection usually works for me :)
Hiya Amie, you can get cute little handbag lights on Amazon, one of these might help you find your stuff in your ysl puffer bag. I think they turn on automatically when you rummage in your bag xxx
Really appreciate this video! I hope you do more in the future on some of the other bags in your collection. I personally think the functionality and wear of a bag is so important. It's great if a design looks gorgeous but if it's not comfortable or it doesn't function well... seems to be fail in the design department. I'm a firm believer that good design is a fine balance between form and function, not one over the other!

I noticed you have an insert in it; do you like that? I gave inserts for my mediums to keep the shape, but I tend to take them out when I use them. Amie after watching this video, i definitely save a lot of money 😂 all these are like my handbags deal breaker. No, no for the Chanel Jumbo, too heavy for me and the light color interior for the Neverfull. But does it has color transfer on the canvas with dark outfit? Having said that, that is why i bought a Speedy 25 with zipper instead (need to have some security) esp travelling in the train and some says hard to get in too but definitely not as stiff as the Antigona leather. The YSL puffer bag looks good but does the strap fall off easily when you wear it double strap? If that does slip down easily, it will annoy me as well. Thanks for sharing.
I don't find the puffer bag slips down at all. The straps look really straight but they have softened a bit with time, and of course when you fill the bag up, it helps weight it down :) No experience with colour transfer on the Neverfull but I do wear on the shoulder which limits exposure!

I’m that person who can’t take a heavier bag on my shoulder but being 5’2”, smaller bags don’t look too disproportionate even with chunkier outerwear. I’ve definitely managed to pair down what I carry around (unless going to work or a meeting), which for me has been freeing. I also always worry about carrying round more expensive bags so have been wary of buying any. These days I tend to go for mid-level price range with the nicer leathers (Cuyana, Oroton, Madewell etc.)
I note another RUclipsr who had the same issue with the Givenchy Antigona strap. I have a 2017 Small model and can confirm the straps to be quite difficult to remove and put back so they must have changed this for that reason x
Spot on about the mini Alexa. I too got the bag to nip out quickly to the shops locally, hands free. The bag simply is not practical when opening and closing. It does gets on my nerves sometimes. The quality (opening & closing issues aside) is really amazing though! Funny you mention the Neverfull, I am about to get the damier with pink inside (will purchase liner) and noted the same comment on YT from various bloggers - it is so common etc. Well, if you like a bag I think you do not purchase it (or not) based on how common it is - who cares?!
I agree with so many of your points, but the opening of my small Antigona is not as tight as yours. I wonder if the mock croc makes it stiffer? As far as the Loulou, that fussy snap drives me crazy!! Still, I'm so lucky to have them that I shouldn't complain!😁 TFS!
I totally agree with you that Chanel should come up with a in-between size. The Jumbo is way too big for my frame and too heavy to use for a full day. The medium is a tad big too small.
Amie I’m with you on the price of the jumbo. I have a single flap jumbo from 2012. I’ve had it for years. I wanted it for years before I bought it. Lately I’m not reaching for it. It freaks me out that I can’t replace it for what I paid for it. I’m nervous about theft and damage.
Right?! I stopped using my black mini when I knew they stopped releasing them in caviar as much. I know they're made to be used but I know I'll enjoy myself more if I'm not concerned about my bag haha!

I used to use the Antigona small in black pebbled leather for work, and fit many things inside (lunch, water, wallet, mouse, cables etc.). I agree the opening stiff, esp with the massive zipper (need two hands to zip and unzip sometimes), but the pebbled leather softened over time and became easier to open the more i used it. I'd imagine the mock croc leather is probably harder to break in and so thats why the problem is exacerbated! The strap also falls out of the fastener while i'm on the go as well :( Kind of annoying while on the metro but i still love the bag and its functional when i want to carry a lot but still want a structured bag :) . Love the video idea Amie!
Someone else mentioned this and I think it's probably exactly right! I used to own the regular leather in the medium and I don't remember being particularly bothered by it. Ahh the things we put up with when we fall in love with a bag! 😂

I would be very careful with ‘hardware protectors’ as the adhesive can cause discolouration and damage to the hardware. I used to work for Burberry and their hardware is so bad for tarnishing just an FYI

I have an old large Alexa. I love it so much. But the magnetic straps - ugh. They are constantly flapping around and sometimes hit my car. 😡 I almost wish it didn’t have the metal tabs. And the shoulder strap is way too long. That said, I’ve been wearing it the most lately!

For colour choice, the regular leather is probably my favourite just because there are so many colour options and it is super durable and easy to care for. I do LOVE the new dolce leather though which is a softer more grained leather so if they do your colour choice in the dolce, definitely worth a look too :)

The Chanel WOC is great. Very tiny but that's the case with most WOCs. I still have the Chanel reissue WOC (which is basically the same, just a different closure) and still love it :)
Great video. I don’t find the same things with my Alexa - mines in heavy grain maybe that’s why? I find the lock lines up automatically and I never actively place the magnets. Gosh I do covet the Antigona even though I’m put off by the issues you raise. What do you think of the soft Antigona?
Oh how interesting that it might differ according to the leather! I haven't seen the others in person but might take a look when I finally venture back into in person stores. And I like the soft antigona! Reminds me the LV soft lockit that I used to own. I've not felt the weight though so it'd be interesting to know how it feels with all that leather.
With the Antigona as you have owned a few of them, is the opening as stiff and difficult on the leather bags? Or is it worse on the moc croc? I have a patent moc croc bag in another brand and it is really stiff compared to my leather bags and so far has not softened at all in the years I have had it. Fortunately it’s a very structured bag with an easy clasp so that hasn’t been a problem. But I have been considering an Antigona and if it’s a problem on all leathers then that would be a show stopper for me. I bought my Chanel Jumbo in 2013 and the straps still squeak very loudly but I don’t mind it, it’s just one of the little quirks of the bag. I do feel a bit anxious wearing it now that it’s worth more than doubled what I paid for it so I only wear it out to restaurants or somewhere I can watch it closely. When I want to wear a stress free Chanel bag my vintage Medallion Tote is the answer. It looks impressive and expensive but really wasn’t. I completely understand your love of Tori Burch and other good quality contemporary brands. There are times when wearing a luxury bag just doesn’t feel appropriate. I love them too. My particular favourites are Aspinal Of London, Strathberry and Oroton.
Yes, I was just replying to someone else's comment about this! I hadn't even thought about it but I don't remember being bothered by the opening issue with my medium antigona at all so it must be the stiffer mock croc. And 100% with a time and a place for every style and brand type. I can't imagine I'll ever have a bag collection without some contemporary styles! (even if it is just my own piece of mind 😂)
The Loulou that you had in the medium size - you as that the same colour as your small one? I feel they are both different colours. Your medium had a more darker and richer tone to it while this is more of a yellowish beige. Would really request you to clarify as I'm planning to buy one. Thanks a lot!

I really love the Chanel 19 but I'm always on the fence about new releases from Chanel. They're almost as much money as the classic flaps and Chanel have an iffy track record of sticking to their new releases. I want one too but I'm waiting it out a couple of years to see if it has staying power :)
I have the black large YSL and love it but do find I really have to tug on the very strong magnet closure to get it open so I worry about scratching and pulling on the leather and what will happen over time. I also have to fiddle to get the magnet in just the right place to close it. That being said the leather is beautiful and I think it is a stunning looking bag. Thank you for the information that you gave on the selection of bags that you showed. I feel it is a mission finding the absolute right bag that is beautiful, functional and perfect!! Maybe there is no such thing lol.
Ha, I can't say I've ever noticed it on my other styles but it would make sense as the chains are identical on both. Maybe the metal/ leather combo? So strange!
Is your LouLou puffer lambskin? If so, do find it scratches easily or does the quilting do a good job of hiding them? If I am not mistaken, I believe the puffers are all lambskin which gives me pause but maybe others can chime in as well. Great video, thanks!
I had to sell my Chanel jumbo bc I couldn't stand that squeaking. My M/L oddly doesn't. My Kelly 28 is my most expensive bag, and I have to say I love it but the crazy price detracts from my enjoyment, as I'm worried about making sure not to damage it.

I'm asking because it already happened to me with suede leather (even after using impregnating spray) but I imagine that I'll have the same problem with this type of leather. Hi Tracy! So if I'm particularly concerned about a bag, I'll colour lock with Scotchgard or Collonil Pro on both my denim AND the bag. The double protection usually works for me :)

Really appreciate this video! I hope you do more in the future on some of the other bags in your collection. I personally think the functionality and wear of a bag is so important. It's great if a design looks gorgeous but if it's not comfortable or it doesn't function well... seems to be fail in the design department. I'm a firm believer that good design is a fine balance between form and function, not one over the other!
I don’t bother locking my alexas now, as long as the turn lock is in the hole that’s all it do. It’s still my favourite bag ever though.

I love the LV NF but I had to buy leather strap protectors from Etsy top make them easier on the shoulder to carrier.
This is a great video! I love that you differentiated between what other people might think of as flaws vs what you think. Everything you said was something I would definitely like to know when considering one of these bags. I actually just sold my Neverfull MM because of the strap. It was just too uncomfortable and cutting into my shoulder when I had anything slightly heavy inside.

I got my Antigona small last year, and haven’t really used it, but also there’s been no place to go. I worry that I’m a crossbody person. I have a black lambskin boy bag for that, though.

Amie after watching this video, i definitely save a lot of money 😂 all these are like my handbags deal breaker. No, no for the Chanel Jumbo, too heavy for me and the light color interior for the Neverfull. But does it has color transfer on the canvas with dark outfit? Having said that, that is why i bought a Speedy 25 with zipper instead (need to have some security) esp travelling in the train and some says hard to get in too but definitely not as stiff as the Antigona leather. The YSL puffer bag looks good but does the strap fall off easily when you wear it double strap? If that does slip down easily, it will annoy me as well. Thanks for sharing.
I don't find the puffer bag slips down at all. The straps look really straight but they have softened a bit with time, and of course when you fill the bag up, it helps weight it down :) No experience with colour transfer on the Neverfull but I do wear on the shoulder which limits exposure!

I’m that person who can’t take a heavier bag on my shoulder but being 5’2”, smaller bags don’t look too disproportionate even with chunkier outerwear. I’ve definitely managed to pair down what I carry around (unless going to work or a meeting), which for me has been freeing.
I also always worry about carrying round more expensive bags so have been wary of buying any. These days I tend to go for mid-level price range with the nicer leathers (Cuyana, Oroton, Madewell etc.)
I note another RUclipsr who had the same issue with the Givenchy Antigona strap. I have a 2017 Small model and can confirm the straps to be quite difficult to remove and put back so they must have changed this for that reason x
Spot on about the mini Alexa. I too got the bag to nip out quickly to the shops locally, hands free. The bag simply is not practical when opening and closing. It does gets on my nerves sometimes. The quality (opening & closing issues aside) is really amazing though! Funny you mention the Neverfull, I am about to get the damier with pink inside (will purchase liner) and noted the same comment on YT from various bloggers - it is so common etc. Well, if you like a bag I think you do not purchase it (or not) based on how common it is - who cares?!

I agree with so many of your points, but the opening of my small Antigona is not as tight as yours. I wonder if the mock croc makes it stiffer? As far as the Loulou, that fussy snap drives me crazy!! Still, I'm so lucky to have them that I shouldn't complain!😁 TFS!

I totally agree with you that Chanel should come up with a in-between size. The Jumbo is way too big for my frame and too heavy to use for a full day. The medium is a tad big too small.
Amie I’m with you on the price of the jumbo. I have a single flap jumbo from 2012. I’ve had it for years. I wanted it for years before I bought it. Lately I’m not reaching for it. It freaks me out that I can’t replace it for what I paid for it. I’m nervous about theft and damage.
Right?! I stopped using my black mini when I knew they stopped releasing them in caviar as much. I know they're made to be used but I know I'll enjoy myself more if I'm not concerned about my bag haha!
This video is so informative. I agree with what you mention for the Mulberry bag, I have the same "problem" with the Mulberry Bayswater. I don't have a specific insurance company for my bags, I just file them under my contents insurance :)
I used to use the Antigona small in black pebbled leather for work, and fit many things inside (lunch, water, wallet, mouse, cables etc.). I agree the opening stiff, esp with the massive zipper (need two hands to zip and unzip sometimes), but the pebbled leather softened over time and became easier to open the more i used it. I'd imagine the mock croc leather is probably harder to break in and so thats why the problem is exacerbated!
The strap also falls out of the fastener while i'm on the go as well :( Kind of annoying while on the metro but i still love the bag and its functional when i want to carry a lot but still want a structured bag :) . Love the video idea Amie!
Someone else mentioned this and I think it's probably exactly right! I used to own the regular leather in the medium and I don't remember being particularly bothered by it. Ahh the things we put up with when we fall in love with a bag! 😂

I would be very careful with ‘hardware protectors’ as the adhesive can cause discolouration and damage to the hardware. I used to work for Burberry and their hardware is so bad for tarnishing just an FYI

I have an old large Alexa. I love it so much. But the magnetic straps - ugh. They are constantly flapping around and sometimes hit my car. 😡 I almost wish it didn’t have the metal tabs. And the shoulder strap is way too long. That said, I’ve been wearing it the most lately!

For colour choice, the regular leather is probably my favourite just because there are so many colour options and it is super durable and easy to care for. I do LOVE the new dolce leather though which is a softer more grained leather so if they do your colour choice in the dolce, definitely worth a look too :)

The Chanel WOC is great. Very tiny but that's the case with most WOCs. I still have the Chanel reissue WOC (which is basically the same, just a different closure) and still love it :)

Oh how interesting that it might differ according to the leather! I haven't seen the others in person but might take a look when I finally venture back into in person stores. And I like the soft antigona! Reminds me the LV soft lockit that I used to own. I've not felt the weight though so it'd be interesting to know how it feels with all that leather.

With the Antigona as you have owned a few of them, is the opening as stiff and difficult on the leather bags? Or is it worse on the moc croc? I have a patent moc croc bag in another brand and it is really stiff compared to my leather bags and so far has not softened at all in the years I have had it. Fortunately it’s a very structured bag with an easy clasp so that hasn’t been a problem. But I have been considering an Antigona and if it’s a problem on all leathers then that would be a show stopper for me.
I bought my Chanel Jumbo in 2013 and the straps still squeak very loudly but I don’t mind it, it’s just one of the little quirks of the bag. I do feel a bit anxious wearing it now that it’s worth more than doubled what I paid for it so I only wear it out to restaurants or somewhere I can watch it closely. When I want to wear a stress free Chanel bag my vintage Medallion Tote is the answer. It looks impressive and expensive but really wasn’t.
I completely understand your love of Tori Burch and other good quality contemporary brands. There are times when wearing a luxury bag just doesn’t feel appropriate. I love them too. My particular favourites are Aspinal Of London, Strathberry and Oroton.
Yes, I was just replying to someone else's comment about this! I hadn't even thought about it but I don't remember being bothered by the opening issue with my medium antigona at all so it must be the stiffer mock croc.
And 100% with a time and a place for every style and brand type. I can't imagine I'll ever have a bag collection without some contemporary styles! (even if it is just my own piece of mind 😂)
The Loulou that you had in the medium size - you as that the same colour as your small one? I feel they are both different colours. Your medium had a more darker and richer tone to it while this is more of a yellowish beige. Would really request you to clarify as I'm planning to buy one. Thanks a lot!

I really love the Chanel 19 but I'm always on the fence about new releases from Chanel. They're almost as much money as the classic flaps and Chanel have an iffy track record of sticking to their new releases. I want one too but I'm waiting it out a couple of years to see if it has staying power :)

I have the black large YSL and love it but do find I really have to tug on the very strong magnet closure to get it open so I worry about scratching and pulling on the leather and what will happen over time. I also have to fiddle to get the magnet in just the right place to close it. That being said the leather is beautiful and I think it is a stunning looking bag. Thank you for the information that you gave on the selection of bags that you showed. I feel it is a mission finding the absolute right bag that is beautiful, functional and perfect!! Maybe there is no such thing lol.

Ha, I can't say I've ever noticed it on my other styles but it would make sense as the chains are identical on both. Maybe the metal/ leather combo? So strange!

Is your LouLou puffer lambskin? If so, do find it scratches easily or does the quilting do a good job of hiding them? If I am not mistaken, I believe the puffers are all lambskin which gives me pause but maybe others can chime in as well. Great video, thanks!
Yup, but for some reason it just does not pick up scratches. No idea what they did to it but it's crazy robust!
I had to sell my Chanel jumbo bc I couldn't stand that squeaking. My M/L oddly doesn't. My Kelly 28 is my most expensive bag, and I have to say I love it but the crazy price detracts from my enjoyment, as I'm worried about making sure not to damage it.
It is a funny thing that I don't really hear mentioned. I always thought it would go away when I had xx amount of money or xx amount of bags and it really doesn't haha. Maybe because the prices keep increasing! 🙈
