I attended a Carolyn Arends concert at Dominion Chalmers in Ottawa almost 20 years ago (feels like yesterday) right on the heels of the release of Under The Gaze. Up until that point, I hadn't been aware of the release of Under The Gaze, so I was there hoping to hear cuts off Seize The Day and Feel Free (and many were wonderfully performed that night!), but I just as fondly remember hearing new songs like This Is The Moment, Great Could Of Witnesses, Any Given Sunday, This Is Who You Are, Getting Ready For Glory And Not A Tame Lion for the first time. I LOVED all of these new songs first listen that night. And sitting up close hearing about them then watching Carolyn & Spencer so beautifully execute them was just one of the best nights of my life. Carolyn returned to the same location the next year or two (or so) and we hurried back for more. To say Carolyn is an incredible songwriter and performer is kind of like saying the sky is blue at this point, but it remains true. And Under the Gaze is one of the best albums of all time.
Thank you for the lyrics. As always, I need them! 😂 Stupid broken ears…oh well, God is good. He made sure I was born in the time of streaming hearing aids and thoughtful artists like you who make videos with the lyrics right there to read. I still love the version from your house, where you talk about your daughter telling people Aslan is God. ❤️
Great to rediscover this gem! Nice song! Not a lucky rabbits foot. Not Santa Claus. Not a magic genie in a bottle. Not a cosmic slot machine that you can rig. Not safe. Love that. Few speak of it, and never heard a song that said that. Very true … a light that, indeed, can consume. But… good. Just and righteous and holy and love… all wrapped up in one.
