Thanks Mike! Yup, those are OEM parts too. 👌
I'm not gonna lie, this is above my pay grade. Great job Zach! 👏
Haha oh believe me, Eric. It was above mine too xD I struggled through it, but so happy I did. It took lots of reading through the manual, calling my dad to confirm I was doing it right, and A LOT of patience 🤣 Thanks for watching bro 😁
You keep getting deeper into the mechanical aspects without the fear of failure.👍👍
My goal is to keep learning and improving :) thanks for watching mate 😁
All torqued down running right looking forward to the reveal
Thanks Marc! 😎👊 It will be part cinematic and part riding pov and exhaust sounds 🔥🔥 I can't wait to get back home to ride it!
You make that look so easy. I really like how you label everything when you take it off. Great video.
The power of editing lol I can assure you I struggled quite a bit during this job 😂😂 Thanks for watching bro!
A lot of work went into that! Great Job!
Thanks dude!!
Yep Zach great upgrade to the bike.👍
Thanks Robert! 👊🤘
Okay quick question, on the camshaft retainers (the brackets that hold the cams in place labeled ex. L, ex. R, in. L, and in. R; i have no idea what they are called exactly), how tight were your bolts? A few of mine felt like they broke loose but then aren't continuing to loosen, they are still tight and I am worried about snapping them off for the apparent lack of hardware and parts for this bike. So did you feel like they were really tight before they started loosening or were yours super easy to remove? I've never done any mechanical work on any motorcycle, honda, 4 cylinder, or overhead cam, let alone dual cam, so I am trying to do it right but this is a much more difficult vehicle to find videos and how-tos on, what would you recommend? (Sorry for the long comment lol)
I think I remember mine also being pretty dang tight. I would advise getting the service manual for your bike. The only way to properly work on anything imo 😁 it walks you through disassembly, torq values, assembly, volumes, etc.
Oh sweet alright thank you! I will definitely look into that a bit more, and are the three years of the bike close enough that the books are relatively interchangeable? I figured I'd ask because you likely know a lot more about it than I would
So it's not so much that the chain is wearing out or stretching as it is a case of the tensioner wearing past the point it can maintain chain tension ?
Exactly! I just replaced the whole thing to be sure since I had to take it out regardless. I'd suggest the same.
The chain does also stretch over time, but I'd be willing to bet it's your tensioner and not the chain.
What a nice restoration..... thanks for share sir....
Thank you bro! 👊💯
@@MotoMango welcome
You're quite a stud!
Thanks Mike 😎
I doing a restore on one just like yours. Were did you find the timing chain tensioner, and the rest of the hard to fi d parts for this bike 700s
www.cmsnl.com/
Cmsnl has like almost everything. If not there try partzilla and/or 4into1.com
Thanks
no problem!
Where did you get the tensioner??
Partzilla
@@MotoMango the whole assembly? I can’t find it.
@@MotoMango great thanks for the video as well! I will use this to fix my 83 650!
I only replaced the tensioner, I didn't replace the guides or the chain or anything else.
My 84 NH 750s has 105,000 km's on it, i think i'm getting a bit of chain noise.
They usually start to need to be replaced around 60k miles which is right around 100k km of I'm not mistaken
Where do you source your nighthawk parts from?? Thanks for this excellent video.
Happy to help! There's kind of a few places you gotta check. Cmsnl.com has a lot of OEM parts but it's expensive. I'll check partzilla.com usually first. Calctric also carries a lot of vintage parts. So does 4into1.com. I'll also check amazing and ebay sometimes. You slowly gather a list of places that might carry parts you need haha
@@MotoMango Appreciate this response! Partzilla has been on my list for a long time, but Cmsnl is new to me so that's great. Cheers!
Cheers mate 👊🍻
what was mileage or is it age that matters?
I've heard people recommend replacing every 30k. I think that's a little excessive, but it doesn't hurt I guess. You can hear when the tensioner isn't doing its job anymore, the chain slap is very noticeable.
Mileage is more a factor here and/or if it was stored outside I suppose
@MotoMango so you have warning before piston-valve contact , good point
You didn't show us the old pieces so we could see how worn they were , woulda been nice to see that and tell us how many miles are on the bike to get to that state of wear ?
So it's the spring that wears over time. You could just replace the spring to do it cheaper. My bike has 34k miles.
@@MotoMango Good ta know , thanks eh !
@@luckyPiston no problem mate! 👊🍻
Nice!!!!!
👊💯👊💯 thanks for your help!
è lo stesso motore di cbx?
what year? CBX can be a 750, 900, or 1000 I believe
@@MotoMango I have a 1984 CBX 550 F
Yo solo queria saber si tiene ajustador de cadena 😢
??
It's an automatic cam chain adjuster but the spring wears out over time. Unless you mean the drive chain, then you have to adjust that manually.
🤘🤘🤘
Appreciate ya bro! 👊🍻
