  • Due to the recent events and the death of Queen Elizabeth II I'd like to feature 'my' version of the British National Anthem on this channel as well. You can get the transcribed sheet music in my new webstore here: www.paulfeyorganist.com/produ...
Please find the text of the British National Anthem attached here:
    God save our gracious King!
    Long live our noble King!
    God save the King!
    Send him victorious,
    Happy and glorious,
    Long to reign over us,
    God save the King.
    Thy choicest gifts in store
On him be pleased to pour,
    Long may he reign.
    May he defend our laws,
    And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
    God save the King.
This improvised fanfare and harmonization on 'God Save The King' / God Save the Queen was played on the wonderful Marcussen Organ Sampleset for Hauptwerk, produced by Sonus Paradisi. It was played on my Gloria Klassik 352 digital organ sponsored by Kisselbach Germany. Find more information about Kisselbach here:

@@cabalpaxiarch7239 it is the Royal Anthem of Australia. The Australian National Anthem is “Advance Australia Fair”, which replaced “God Save the Queen” in 1974.
“God Save the Queen/King” is now only played in regal occasions. I fear with a Labor government seeking a referendum, this anthem will seldom be sung.

At the school I went to as a kid when our family lived in Australia, every morning at assembly both the Australian flag and the Union Jack were raised, and we had to sing both God Save the Queen and the Australian anthem. In that order. Then it was followed by standing at attention (we had strict uniform code with blazers and ties btw), to make the following salute: "I honour my God, I serve my Queen, I salute my flags".
This was was way back in the mid 80s at primary school, and being a dual-citizen with both parents born and raised in continental Europe, you'd think this daily routine should have felt weird to me. But thinking back, it felt surprisingly normal... after all, the Queen's head was on the back of all the coins we got for pocket money, so I guess it made sense at the time! Even today after decades living back in Europe, I feel as confronted as I'm sure most Brits do by having to get used to the lyrics changing to the version for a King instead of a Queen. Which is weird, considering that technically, it's never been the anthem of any of the countries I'm a citizen of..! ;)

Thank you Paul for such an inspiring rendition. I had to listen many times just to let the music sink in. As a student I remember singing this each evening in our classroom at the end of day in grade school, and yes we sang "God Save Our King" (for two years I believe). Then it was changed to: "God Save Our Queen". I was educated in 🇨🇦 and now live in Southern California.
That refrain is still just as alive in me as it was in 1950. Thank you Paul for such an excellent arrangement and your musicianship also was First Class

This had me spending quite a bit of time in churches while the work was done and later saw me and my little brother helping out. My dad also was church organist for about 30 years. The melody of the British National Anthem was an international tune which was/is used for similar purposes by several countries, including the USA. I think it was its use by Thomas Arne in a very popular opera and current political conditions that allowed it to catch on bigtime in England in the 18th century.

    B. Steane's Marche Triomphale has always been almost unknown, but not to my old organ teacher, who taught me it when I was twelve (it was 1977). We played it on a beautiful, small but very refined organ: the Vegezzi Bossi from Montanaro, in Piedmont, and for me the mere fact of succeeding was a celebration.
    You are very good!

Although I am not an Englishman, I have always loved this song. I draw inspiration when listening to many other countries national anthems. I was in turn moved by your rendition. I long for the day when all nations will get along with one another. Thanks so much !

@@PaulFey The Kingdom of Prussia even used this melody before the German Empire (Heil dir im Siegerkranz). I'd also like to add that this is not just the de facto anthem of England, but the royal anthem of the other constitutive nations of the UK (Scotland, the northern part of Ireland, and Wales), and of Commonwealth realms such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and so on.
