Beautiful Silk Moths - Cecropia Moth, Polyphemus Moth, Rosy Maple Moth

Silk moths - what beautiful creatures! The majestic Cecropia Moth, the graceful Polyphemus Moth and the colorful Rosy Maple Moth were all found in Upper Michigan near the Sylvania Wilderness Area. The North American silk moths visited our campsite and Sylvania Outfitters during a couple June camping trips.
Cecropia Moths are the largest North American silk moth, with a wingspan up to 7 inches or 17.5 centimeters. Polyphemus Moths have a wingspan up to 6 inches or 15 centimeters and Rosy Maple Moths, often yellow and pink in color, have wingspans up to 2 inches and 5 centimeters in length.
Male silk moths are distinguished by their large, fuzzy antennae - that are used to locate the scent of female silk moths, allowing them to mate.

Hi godmd, Haha...Yes, Mothra vs Godzilla was classic TV for me 50 years ago. These big silk moths do resemble the big, robotic moths used in the movies back in the day! Thanks for watching and sharing your comments. I hope you are able to find some cool silk moths in your area too.
