In addition to attacking silently, snowy owls have keen eyesight and great hearing to help find their prey. What do you think about this bird's stealthy hunting skills? 🦉
Nat Geo WILD the birds stealthy skills match my ability to pass silent gas. People never know what hit them.
it called badass
Nat Geo WILD That vole never had a chance!
I think that just about makes the owl very high on top of the food chain. An apex predator like the eagle.
The snowy owl is one of my most favorite owls. Not only is the bird gorgeous but an apex predator.
This owl is absolutely gorgeous.
I had an owl
Headwig
@Chaz Searcy You'd never come close to it anyways, sooo
@Chaz Searcy true, i get you
I think the mouse was also cute...
That is why owls are the symbol of wisdom because they are extremely silent to the point of giving you a false sense of victory and they are so precise to the extent that you do not know what you have done wrong and why they are unquestionably right.
What they done wrong was be a rat
Such a wonderful description!
0:56 What good are big ears when you can't do this?
Owls have much better hearing and aren't underground thus have more access to free moving sound waves. Also evolution is a constant battle of adaptation, so give it a hundred thousand years or so and the Vole will probably have some kind of adaptation
@Milton Holley I could also say "Miracle is a man's Word for something he doesn't understand" which makes even better sense
Omg
@Milton Holley who created the creator? There must be someone, right? And who created the person who created the creator?
That's what Ash mains do when you try to shoot them
I like the beautiful Snowy Owl, but I also liked the cute little vole! Nature is harsh.
Yeah. At least birds of prey are fast and don't toy with their food like house cats do
Peppertree133 T
Owls do it for survival unlike cats
Nature is Divine

One thing about owls their talons are very sharp, fast and strong and they kill almost instantly. Unlike some animals which eat their pray alive.
0:55 - "uhhh noooo u didn't..."
Lmfao Im dead bruh
literally what I was thinking 😂

Andrew's Mom WTH is that?
🤣
It's clips like these that make me appreciate being a human and not having to worry about being plucked out of my bed like a wriggly burrito
Lmao 💀💀 just imagine being plucked by that majestic owl 🤦♀️😂
@@renxybaluyot9822 I mean, it’d be a beautiful last sight but I’d rather not be eaten by a pretty bird for lunch.
This bird knows how play hide and seek lol.
We agree, Ben! Snowy owl males get whiter as they get older, which is helpful for them when blending in with the snow!
Nat geo replied u..
@@myaccount7435 Oh Wow. I don't think I had reply notification turned on. Never saw this on. Thanks so much for letting me. That was pretty cool though.
Wow
@@benventura9103 after 2 years😂
Just when the vole thought it's safe under the bed of snow. That's some really impressive and precise hunting skill. Kind of reminds me of how these voles are also susceptible to the fox too. Thanks for sharing National Geographic.
Azliana Lyana it's called a vole, sorry if i sounded rude i just wanted to tell you.I also thought the person said mole, but the captions said vole' and some person commented that the narrator said vole not mole.
A_Wolf_ That_Draws I thought that 'mole' looked weird. Thanks for the info. Edited. :)
This is about snowy owl that played in the most famous Harry Potter roles.
Watching an owl fly, it really is something to see the smallness of each flap of the wings. Tremendous lift with each motion. Along with the ruffled feathers, it makes sense that they would be such silent flyers.
Being the major Potterhead that I am, every time I see a Snowy Owl, I immediately think "OMG! It's Hedwig!"
Same lol
@@moonlight-zj5qo Awesome! BTW, What's your Hogwarts house? I'm a Hufflepuff.
😐
scabbers and Hedwig in the unbreakable law of nature
This is a scenario where Ron' Scabbers was attacked by Hedwig
😂😂
They thought that was Crookshanks, but that was Hedwig😆
😐
Let’s take a moment of silence for Hedwig
.....
I like how the snowy owl looks like it's always judging you.
I’ve always wanted to pet an owl
Me too
Do your research and see if it's legal in your state.
In the 1981 we lived on a mountain in west virginia. we also lived next door to my uncle. and on the other side of us was another family with kids. One day while i was on the other families side with the neighbor kids playing we saw a HUGE brown Eastern Screech-Owl. land on his fathers garage and just sit there looking around IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY . we watched it for what seemed to be forever before we noticed why the owl was there in the middle of the morning just sitting right on top of a garage. there was a baby owl on the other side a little down further on the garage and the big owl was saying something to the little baby Eastern Screech-Owl. . we thought the little owl was stuck. we watched them for a while kinda talk back and fourth Then The mama owl screamed and the little one took off flying over top of our house towards my uncles . we watched the mama take off behind him screaming saying " Go Go Go " to her baby and we watched them fly off towards the mountains. We found out a few days later that my uncle found the baby Owl in his yard and he couldn't fly . The mama was nowhere around. we put two and two together and figured the bird couldn't fly and the mama had to leave him . the mama was trying everything to help him and when they took off i guess he couldn't make it. we as kids thought they both flew back into the deep part of the mountains. My Uncle raised the baby brown eastern screech-owl. in a super large bird cage looking out some windows overseeing the side of the mountains for probably 6 or 8 years . The owl never did get near as big as we remember his mom being though . one day in early spring he took the owl outside in the cage , opened the cage up and just let him go. He flew right out and went up the side of the mountain . he landed on a tree where he could see my uncles house . and sit there for hours while my uncle was outside watching him . finally after a few hours he flew away into the mountains . HERES THE BEST PART - a few times every year usually in Summer/Fall my uncle would be outside doing something . mowing the grass or tilling the garden. He said at least twice a year he would look up in the trees and hear and see his bird. He said he knew the birds voice better than his wifes voice. He got pictures of him a few different years. He swears the bird probably never did go very far away.
@@TheBeaver50 That's an interesting story.
I've always wanted to pet a rodent
I felt terrible when Headwig was trying to defend Harry from the death eaters.
Hedwig's soul would be pleased with it...
Thank you
OMG I love this.. especially the owl at 0:57.. very funny there
And when the narrator said "The vole didn't even know what hit him".. and "..as silent as death", and indeed the vole met its death. Beautiful narration
Can I ask at which part of the vid the vole was taken out by the owl. I didn't see the vole in the grips of the owl.
@@vern0018 From 1:37, when the owl struck, to 1:40, you can see the shade of the rodent. It's not the same as the vole shown in its cave. Could've been a bait instead.
“Hidden beneath there protected from the hunters above”
How the faawck did he get his camera there?
Drones, i think
@Mariyam Roshi fair point
Magic
They'ree probably put the camera in the hole (I guess...)
Possibly built a make shift den with an aquarium, added shaved ice/snow, and allowed the vole make a nest to get their shot. Meanwhile recording actual wild animals(I.e. snowy owl, wild vole).
oh she's cute when she twists her neck
It's like a dance move
He
This owl should be given award for its dance skills
I just wanna know how they place the camera's there and know that the volde will bury itself in that exact location. Also when the camera is moving with the vole, why isn't the volde running away?
By the way that snowy owl is just beautiful.
Sumeet Kumar I would imagine there's lots of useless footage as someone had to wait for this money shot.
@@knottyqueen8004 yes must be days worth of footage in their camera waiting to be used
It's called editing.
Sumeet Kumar, they have lab that can create such footage.
Sumeet Kumar they have remote controlled slides and lots of patience, they also already know where it’s going to bury itself.
That’s my favorite owl species. What a beautiful bird!
0:56
This is like me when my mom took my headphones so I can't dance
Such a majestic bird, almost breathtaking..bald eagle is #2 on my list now..
Aren't snowy owls fascinating? Did you know that they are diurnal and are active both day and night?
Nat Geo WILD i thought owls are nocturnal
@@tylerjones7592 well snow owl isn't. I think thats what he ment
Macaws are more majestic
@@tylerjones7592 Snowies are different from most other owls because they are a more northern species, and the polar summers have daylight nearly 24/7 up there.
If they weren't diurnal during those times, they'd starve!
I love the head movement 😂
the photography is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo amazing!!!!!!!! You put on so much of effort!!!! Glad to have people like that in this world !!!!
Loving all the comments calling it a mole when its a vole haha
Owls are the Masters of Silence. The silence of death. Doves are your messengers of the sound, the light and night.
The pure beauty of an owl's flight.
HEDWIG ON THE HUNT
I was on a photographic trip earlier this year to photograph these magnificent birds and had never seen one before, but the speed of them is remarkable and one of the most stunning birds ever. Just loved them and got some great shots too!
me: OOOH THIS VOLE IS SO CUTE!!!
also me: it’s a shame that it’s going to die
That mouse had his own lil superman ice cave
& then Kyrpt'owl'nite attacked..💁🏻♂️
0:56 Yummy i got a new food!
Incredible! My sister and brother-in-law are in San Marco Island Is, FL they are going to a lecture tonight on Owls. I guess they're prevalent on the island. From one of your videos, it sounds as if they've changed their flight plan, heading East. So they are excited about going to see the lecture. Thank you, the Snowy Owl is absolutely gorgeous. Actually, my sister said they are in Michigan too.
Thank you for putting snowy owls on here
Owl: *kills an innocent vole who was probably a mom of cubs*
Everyone: the owl is beautiful.
In the animal world, there is no innocent or guilty. Every animal seeks to live and has a family to take care of. Either he kills or he dies.
Hedwig 😍😍
LOOK OUT!

Thank you very much for your creative scientific production. We wish you further progress and success
I love owls and birds but that innocent and cute vole managing to have warm-ish shelter and something to snack on only to get deleted in a fraction of a second. Oh well, at least the vole didn’t know it even happened
The vole knew it happened, it could feel those talon's piercing him while he was being carried off🙄
0:56 Hellooooooou everybody !

Anyone else thought of Zimmer's soundtrack for Batman Begins when the snow owl began her attack?
I thought of Harry Potter oST lol
my friend - my pet bird can talk
me - but can it do this: 0:56
soooo beautiful!
The last two lines are fantastic!
We once thought owls had "night vision", but it turns out they have much more than that; they have thermal vision, meaning they can "see" heat signatures...even in broad daylight o.0
Such magnificent beauty. They are breathtaking to watch.
Incredible
This is more entertaining than all of Hollywood
Amazing this Snowy Owl.....to be so silent and can hear the vole under the snow....
Nice set of Hooters you got there!...Excuse me? ...The owls..They're beautiful.
0:56 that move sick!
What's sick about it?
