Can confirm too, at least this was still true when they had this wild bundle special long while back and you got 10 packs from like every wild expansion and I got like 8 legendaries from them because I think I had already opened KaC and LK packs from back then so probably got those legendaries already. Been slowly buying golden from the recently rotated trip of expansions and got golden legendaries from there too so it still applies to those recently wilded expansions and makes me even more sure that its still the case even for the farback ones too.

I'd like to add a more subtle advice towards pack openings. You should decide how much you want to spend on an expansion (whether in real money or gold doesn't matter) and then spend that right away at the beginning, instead of buying like 2 packs every week or so. That way you not only get to play the cards as long as possible before they rotate, you also get the chance to capitalize on as many nerfs as possible (through dust refunds). There's not many more terrible experiences in the game than opening a legendary which was already nerfed into oblivion without getting the refund. The difficult part about this, if you aren't a whale and buy the preorders (which have pretty decent value but are expensive), you need to save your gold prior to an expansion launch. I usually aim to go into an expansion with around 10k gold, which is easily obtainable by just playing the game regularly. A nice little additional benefit of that is that I always have the 2k gold for the mini set ready right away when it comes out.
I would also mention that as a new or returning player, just focus on 3 or 4 classes first. You can get relatively easy the entire collection of a couple classes but if you spread too thin you would have trouble creating decks.
Extra tip for gaming those timers, buy a pack at a time if you're not really impatient, for instance with the guaranteed Legendary within 10 packs, don't get 10 at once, get 1 at a time and move on once the Legendary is picked up. With duplicate protection being a thing, a good goal after initial Legendary getting is to go for all Commons and Rares in Standard, it can take a while but can be reached eventually. Don't forget to save money for mini-sets though, that's generally the most important, if you can't keep track of too much just remember to do that. About Wild packs, I would say there can be some worth getting them, if you have Standard stuff mostly covered and a spare amount of Gold/money, if you're just getting packs for the Dust anyway. However, they've recently had sales for Wild packs for Gold or money. There's no guarantee they're going to do that again, but if it did decently the first time, they might, so saving some Gold for that prospect might be a good idea, again, if there's nothing more important to spend it on.
So, technically getting the first gold pack pity timer, at least for Festival of Legends (being 400 gold/ pack). The first pity timer would require 4000 gold (10 gold packs) which is the equivalent to 40 regular packs (4000 gold). With that being said, the legendary you get from the gold pack is often 4x as valuable, dust-wise, which means if you don't like the golden legendary, you can disenchant it and have 1600 dust to craft ANY legendary you want.
This is viable, but your total amount of Epics obtained is 1/4 less this way (though any you do get can be recrafted into any Epic of course), so there is a cost to it.
Yeah i did the Book of heroes and mercinaries like you suggested, didnt even know you could get class packs and golden packs from them. Ended up getting a golden legendary and purple in the golden pack from book of heroes. Also ended up with a signature MC blingtron lol. Thanks zeddy

So if you get your legendary in your first pack, dont buy more packs. -Buy the standard pool of cards. They are generally stronger than wild cards (with exceptions of course like raza, devolve etc). And standard cards get nerfed! which means dust refunds which wild cards generally dont get. -Don't buy the adventures, they aren't worth the money for the amount of cards (with maybe naxx as an exception, but even naxx isnt worth) you should craft the cards instead that you need. -Same goes for the rest of the sets; Just open your 10 packs until you hit your legendary and stop. Craft what else you might need. -There is the frozen throne adventure, finish the first boss and get a deathknight card (which could be useful!) (or could be just dust for your crafting needs) -If you want to spend money, spend it on standard bundles such as pre-orders or the standard rank bundles. -If you want to buy an adventure, buy naxx or league of explorers. They have the most amount of useful cards. Blackrock is not worth it and neither is karazan. Descent of Dragons isnt worth it anymore, there are 2 usefull cards in there but just craft those. -Certain packs will give you extra legendaries! Such as buying a descent of dragons will give you all the galakronds. (not that they are meta but still!) and buying a whispers of the old gods pack will give you the original C'thun (same thing). I take long breaks from hearthstone. Whenever I come back I buy two packs at a time from any expansion packs I haven't opened. Once I open the guaranteed legendary within the first 10, I'll stop with that expansion and move on to the next. Often you'll get your guaranteed legendary within the first few packs, it's never taken me the full 10 to get the legendary. It's a really efficient way to open up a handful of legendaries with very few packs.

The average dust per pack is: Normal = 105.67 dust Golden = 354 dust Signature = 587.6 dust Of course, this doesn't account for opening a card you actually want, which is a massive effective dust increase especially if you're aiming for Golden cards.

I've been playing hearthstone for quite a few years now, all free to play and I just realized I am pretty sure the golden packs are worth more if you are more interested in dust after collecting all common and rare cards. I play like half the classes and dust everything else, but assuming low rolls 4 normal packs is 160 dust and 1 golden 200. I realize that rolling more often nets a higher chance of getting more than 1 rare or even an epic, but it takes multiple extra rares to over take the dust and even an epic is only 55 dust more than the golden, where the benefit of rolling those extra rares or epics is an even greater pay off as the goldens, and a golden legendary means I can craft any other legendary that I might want instead of getting me 1/4 of the dust I'd need. Any thoughts on gold packs being better than normal pack, or am I just looking at it wrong
You answered your own question. - golden packs are good to get specific cards with disenchanting if you already have most of the set. I bought 20 packs with 2 legendaries (got a third legendary from opening) for 25 euros. But I rather had 5 gold packs with 1 gold legendary because I could have gotten the legendary I wanted with disenchant.
Golden gets you more on dust in commons alone. A golden common is 50 dust a regular common to craft is only 40 everything else equals itself to craft but commons carry it.

You are guaranteed to get 1 legendary in the first 10 packs, not just the new expansion. A new player will get a legendary in the first 10 packs. Also it's probably worth saying that it's best to buy 1 at a time because the first pack could have a legendary. Then focus on standard.

When I first started playing, I opened up a pack with a Legendary, a Golden Legendary, and an epic (perhaps Golden, can’t remember for sure) all in the same pack. I guess it helped out that Hearthstone gives you a guaranteed legendary within your first 10 packs.

I can confirm, the pity timer is set separately per type of pack and they are all within the 1st 10 per type of pack then every 40 per type of pack
Seeing them side by side again I still believe hearthstone switched up the design between the normal and Golden MOTLK packs by mistake

When I first started playing, I opened up a pack with a Legendary, a Golden Legendary, and an epic (perhaps Golden, can’t remember for sure) all in the same pack. I guess it helped out that Hearthstone gives you a guaranteed legendary within your first 10 packs.
Are you still having fun? I was hoping for something new this expansion, so sick of the DK meta.
