      For sure the moon. Probably mars, that's about it. Much of the solar system is just guesses and as far as the universe, we aren't much past the solar system never mind this galaxy.
      Most of the ocean floor isn't mapped because there's no need to map it out beyond the surface unless there's something of interest there like a shipwreck or a divers reef of something.

      Even knowing what are solar system consists of and the astronomy we have discovered is more than we know of our ocean, knowing anything that lies beyond our own planet is more than what we know on the planet itself, their are over 200 billion planets and stars in our galaxy, we know stars life cycles, we know the distance between us and other astronomical objects, furthermore every astronomical object is different, every planet, star and galaxy has very different characteristics which what makes astronomy so interesting.. and yes we know very little compared to what's out their but even knowing the characteristics of Mars is knowing more than our own planet.

    The earths crust is around 50km thick. Meaning there is still another 40,000 meters of rock before the water reaches the mantle. I’d say the ocean floor could easily reach depths of 20,000 meters. Maybe even more.

    • @spirittammyk
      @spirittammyk 5 лет назад

      So what is deeper then? The ocean or volcanoes that have lava that can come from the mantle?

    • @marcdevries9027
      @marcdevries9027 5 лет назад

      Actually, the earths crust is a lot thinner under the ocean. Oceans typically have a crust about 10km thick. Continental crust typically is 30 to 40km thick, with 50km being the max.
      The reason the Mariannas trench is so deep is because it is an subduction zone. Where the pacific tectonic plate dives onder the asian plate into the mantle and slowly melts there.
      That's also why it pretty much limits the depth of the Trench to about 11km. It's basically the thickness of the asian plate.
