    Tightening up to a 4oz + feeder is the wrong way to fish a big river. You need to fish with a fairly big bow in your line by casting upstream and then pay out a good amount of line. Having a bow in the line will not affect the bites at all, they will register on the tip just the same but you will be able to use a much lighter feeder. It's trial and error how much line you pay out but it's worth learning.

      Putting wire legs on the feeder , ala sea-leads, works well too instead of just going heavier and heavier... (copper wire will bend if you get snagged)

  • @tdheaton306
    @tdheaton306 Год назад +4

    I always fish on the edge of the flow, the thinking is that the fish will sit there not expending energy then just nipping out into the flow to intersect any passing morsel, also you can build a bed of feed

    I fished the river severn with my uncle at the end of the summer we had never really river fished before, we did pull a nice few chub and barbel, it was hard holding bottom as the river had been on the rise, there is a really art to casting letting out a bow of line and waiting for your weight to hit bottom before seting your rod on the stand

    • @TXhorne
      @TXhorne Год назад

      This helps avoid weight bouching on the bottom and going down river

    • @TXhorne
      @TXhorne Год назад

      Yh I think you knocked your bales arm over abit quick on the first cast at 6:30 you need to let it sink to bottom so the weight holds let a small bow of line out then place rod down knock bale arm on and drag a foot or so more line off the reel, I'm no expert but this tip really helped me and my uncle

    Where you are if you had fished to your right .Theres a bush and a serious undercut . Its full of carp and barble . Big chub will also hide under the under cut. Now back in the 80s a diver whent into the river at that point and said that he seen a massive Pike just under the undercut. The last time that i fished the Ribble was about 30 years ago and i now live in Ireland and miss this River. Lots of fish and safe.

    Love your videos allways down to earth never go over the top and fishing with ur dad all the time is somthing money cant buy. Ps i fish the yare in norfolk can be very tidal there probly not as much as there but i allways cast uptide and let alot of slack line out to create a big bow in the line and feeder dosent move half as much keep up the good work mate

      Thanks for commenting ! I try to keep everything as real as possible, sometimes large fishing companies can shed a bias light onto fishing, people new to the sport may think they are doing something wrong but sometimes that’s just fishing ! Yes it’s nice to get out and about with my dad. A few people have mentioned uptide casting and it makes sense and your basically getting a self hooking action as the fish hit the weight of the feeder 💪🏻🎣

    In a pond or lake your ground bait stays in one spot,in a river your groundbait flows away with the current.You need a constant source of groundbait in a river.A swimfeeder only deposits a miniscule amount of feed compared to constant feeding.The groundbait in a river draws fish up the current to your bait.

    Hi bud, a "Quickstopped" Lobworm or a couple of Dendro's down the edge can be good as owt when it's Up & Coloured. & look like they've been washed naturally in with all the rain. Also, I always found Bronze & Whites worked better than Reds on the river.

    That was a good winter session 🙂 throwing some loose feed upstream is the way to go & Dad is right on fishing a river while its on the rise is not usually productive but better as the level decreases 20 minutes per swim and move if no bites .If bites are coming in the swim stay put until they dry up Love the Korum gripper weights they hold bottom really well As for the neck ache get a sidewinder indicator the tip can be as high as you like but the indicator is at the level of the first rod ring they come with three tips that can be changed to suit conditions without dismantling the rod .Your Korum xtnd rod is good for river fishing as well

    Why do you have such a high rod rest with the rod almost pointing vertical?

    • @WestysAngling
      @WestysAngling  Месяц назад

      Higher the better with river fishing, you get a direct line to your feeder with as little line in the water as possible. On a powerful river like the Ribble there is a LOT of debris and branches washing down stream, less chance of these hitting your line.

    • @mrthomas394
      @mrthomas394 Месяц назад +1
