From the first time l saw her when l was 12, in "She Loves Me," to the release of her autobiography last year, l have loved this woman's voice, talent, and persona. Truly a one-off. Goodbye, dearest Barbara, and thank you. RIP.
She and Streisand are probably tied as Voices of the Century -with no disrespect to Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald, Jo Stafford and other artful interpreters of popular song. But NO ONE touched Cook -singing with aplomb well into her 80s!
I agree Lies both Barbaras.Sarah Vaughn,Ella Fitzgerald and also Doris Day,Rosemary Clooney,Judy Garland ,Jo Stafford ,and few others were the greatest female singers of the 20th Century. Cook isnt as well known as th eothers because she didnt make movies but she was as great as the others and I agree she , Streisand abnd for me also Sarah Vaughn tied as the best female popular voices because they had legit voices and versatility. But Judy Garland was the best female entertainer of the 20 century.
