In this video I discuss the basics of the financial aid process and what are the most important dates to look out for from the Fafsa and CSS Dates to Loan dates and Scholarship dates as well. Financial aid especially gift aid is free aid. We also answer all the weeks questions left by familles here on the channel about the college admissions and the college financial aid process.
Gift aid is money that's offered to qualifying students that doesn't have to be paid back. Think of it as free money. This catch-all term usually refers to grants and scholarships Gift Aid Grants are, in general, more awarded more often on the basis of need rather than merit. Like the Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants that help students to college through their funds. There is also self-help aid which are loans like the federal direct loans. Self-help aid includes work opportunities and loans, and is called self-help because the individual takes responsibility for receiving this type of aid. All types of financial aid can help you pay for college, though they all work in different ways. Scholarships and grants typically do not need to be paid back.

On Student Aid.Gov, it says annuities are not counted on the FAFSA, but other sources say that it depends whether it is a qualified or non-qualified annuity (it's more clear on the CSS form - they only count qualified annuities from pre tax dollars). My question is whether there's any info about the new FAFSA coming this December, will it count a non-qualified annuity as an asset or only a qualified annuity?
