I have had mine since 1996. We started our journey together in late 1996. She was just a baby 1997 TJ Sport with a cute 11 miles on the odometer. I have never grown tired of my dear Stargazer. She is my love, my life, my dream come true.
Long Commutes: get a quiet muffler as that helps...noisy 4.0L sixes are typically for Millennials only, especially of the G.I. variety or even the Zoomer gen. Also, get a SYE and a double cardan driveshaft = less vibes. Also, good AT tires like BFG KO2's, and not mudders, make for a good daily driver and can still go off pavement w/o issues. Been daily driving a '03 Jeep TJ 4.0L 5-speed in Alaska (plus 1 rd. trip Alcan trip to Lower48) since new!
I daily a 2005 4 cyl manual and I agree with everything you said in this video. With the soft top, it can definitely get loud, which can make conversations hard. Driving solo, there isn't a big issue with that though. On the highway, I can generally keep up with traffic going 65-75 but there won't be any passing going on. It can definitely get you from point A to point B. The interior is very basic. I think the seats are definitely not bad or uncomfortable but they're not the best either (but that may have to do with me being 6'2"). With that said, I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, maybe an LJ or a rubi... Your vids have helped me out a lot, man. I appreciate the content and look forward to more in the future. Much love from Florida, stay warm, hahaha.
$35 out here to to fill up my LJ. California is nuts. I lived there for 28 years. As soon as I hit 28 I moved to Colorado. Don’t regret it, love Colorado and my $$$ goes way further. But I still love LA. Visit family every year. 2 weeks tops then I’m ready to leave LA and come home.
20 miles pr gallon on the freeway? That’s awesome. I never measured mine but I get between 15-16 mpg combined. What can I do to improve my mileage? I have a 2005 LJ “Rubihara” 6 speed manual completely stock. Any advice? As always thanks for the great videos.
One thing is good to mention. I have a 98 Wrangler TJ, I can pull it behind my 30'-0' Motor home, I couldn't do that with a 4 door and go where I like to go. And its a load of fun like Tyler said.
I daily drove a 2000 TJ SE with the four cylinder for three years and a 20001 Sport with a six cylinder for seven years. Both stick. They were great. I drove a lot for my job as a newspaper photographer. Highway, city, blizzards, nothing beat driving my TJ's.
I bought mine as a weekender but I could daily it. I’d rather daily a more comfortable ride though. The noise and bumps beat you up after a long day. Road trips also make your butt numb. Parking it is a dream compared to my truck. All in all it’s Fun to be high up in a capable iconic vehicle and Off-roading is amazing!!
I drive my '02 TJ on the freeway at 70+mph and it's not bad now that I put small airbags in the rear coil springs and keep 10 lbs in them. Before that I did not like driving much over 60-65 but driving 70-75 the MPG drops from 19 to 17 and even an occasional 80mph is not scary as it use to be. BUT . . . mine is stock suspension. I came here looking for daily driver lift kit advice.
Mine has been daily driven since 1996, plays on weekends, becomes Arctic weather rescuer in winter, and drive-in movie convertible in summer. I have loved my aging TJ since the first mile I put in her to today. Since I have had no car payment since 2000, my TJ saves far more money than any new 40 mile to the gallon vehicle. Judging from your mirror. Your TJ is a 1997 to 2002.
Do you think it makes sense for summer tires to buy normal road tires for a smoother ride and better mileage (theoretically) if you’re not really into off roading?
Iam new to the jeep life I always wanted one ,and I do love it but the one problem I have is with the soft top is the wind blows me all over the road and it gets scary sometimes.Does any one have some advice about how to lessen it?And please I know a hard top will help but they are expensive and hard to find used at a decent price, thanks
So how many miles are you getting to a tank on the freeway? I find it hard to believe a Jeep tj on 35s is get 20mpg. I’ve drove a lot of wranglers and never got more than 280 miles to a tank. You would have to get over 400 miles to a tank to get 20 mpg
Do you think it’s worth the extra money to buy an LJ? I’m 100% buying a TJ within the next year, but I keep going back and forth debating on an LJ or a TJ.
They’re both great but if it were me...LJ all the way. You’ll appreciate the extra cargo space plus the extra space for the back passengers. Please note that I own a 2005 LJ “Rubihara” so my comment may be a bit biases. Lol. Just love the look and stance of the LJ. Regardless of what you decide they’re both awesome and so much fun to drive.
What makes a Jeep so special to drive is the fun you have with it. From mods, wheeling, taking the top off, and enjoying a summer day. A TJ will not beat a daily commuter on cost savings, but me and anyone who likes to enjoy life gives up those cost benefits for an exciting vehicle experience. After all we spend a lot of our life in vehicles, would rather be in my TJ than a Prius.
I daily drove my 2001 TJ for a little over 5 years. I bought it with 80,000 miles, and it now has 143,500. It's a 4.0 liter, 5 speed manual. Super great visibility, easy to park and maneuver around. I have been driving mine for off road, trails, rural roads, suburban driving, and urban driving since 1996. I never thought I would have her this long. But as the new vehicles keep coming out, my aging TJ looks better and better every year. I would actually be taking a huge step backwards if I were to get something modern.
I got mine in 1996 as a 1997. It is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. What it lacks in fuel economy, it more than makes up for it in supernatural reliability. Jeep TJ's are not only fun to drive, easy to modify, look awesome when lifted and have big tires, you turn heads, and you get saluted from other Jeep guys.
But when you want satisfy a craving for something tasty, nothing is easier and tastier than a big fat burger! Cow is a great description for our old TJ. There is nothing wrong with a cow. They are even considered holy in India.

I live in New York City and daily drive a 05 TJ Rubi, hands down the best city vehicle. Parking is so easy with the short wheelbase and tight turning radius (no driveway, I street park). With steel bumpers you don’t need to worry about someone bumping your car and damaging it lol. Don’t need to worry about horrible road conditions & potholes. Sitting in traffic I’m comfortable even with a manual - so easy to drive. I think a lot of people in the city have realized this, I see TJs EVERYWHERE. Just make sure you have a hardtop lol
I went from a 2004 Ford Ranger to a 2005 TJ. Such an upgrade, I do drive on the highway half an hour to work one way and it’s not too bad, I’ve had to get used to it but it don’t really notice it anymore. I love it!!
I Always wanted a jeep and live in CA where gas is ridiculous expensive. Sold my 07 Prius and was lucky enough to find an 02 TJ 4 litre manual straight line with 68000 miles. With all the mods it looks great and is a blast to drive. Gas mileage at about 15 mpg but worth every penny. Not missing the Prius at all.
I daily an '04 WJ with a 4.0 in line 6 automatic and I absolutely love it, it does what I need. She has a 2in lift and 255/70 Toyo open country 2 AT tires and it definitely has a race truck feel to it, especially with loud exhaust. I get about 17mpg in town and about 21mpg highway. I will love it forever but I do want to try out TJ or JK style jeep for additional fun.
Great video as always, i don't have to daily mine because luckily my company provides me a vehicle and gas card, but i did daily a TJ and a JK (both manuals) in the past and they were both great. Especially in the Winter. I honestly wish i could take my Jeep to work sometimes, jealous that you get to drive your every day! Mine sits for weeks sometimes other than a trip to Dairy Queen and back every once in a while! And of course back and forth to various offroad parks. Can't wait to take my new TJ Rubicon out for the first time!
KyleSVT awesome! I was on 3.07 with 33’s. Now I am on 4.88’s with 33’s (soon to be 35’s) hoping that helps my MPG a bit. First, a rebuilt 4.0! Happy holidays!
Slap some 80's music in it, KC lights, boom i couldn't think of a better truck to drive every day for me also i love the feeling of the road on my motorcycle, i cant wait to feel a summer day with no doors!!!
Absolutely love love love my 99 TJ..it has been my daily driver for 20 years now. I am 60, and since my divorce, have learned to do all the work on it myself! Rear u joints are next..thank you for your channel!
Appreciate the tips man. This spring im coming home from my deployment with the Guard and I am going to get a mid year wrangler. The prices are fantastic and I can not wait to play up in the mountains with it!
Stop and go urban in a standard is a pain. Otherwise I have driven across country, in town, hills, etc. No problems. I always tried to pass through LA at 3am in the morning to avoid a 5 hour knee aching 20mph ride.
Family of 4 here. My two kids, 4 and 1, love it. I got a bike rack on the spare tire that can also carry a stroller. Plenty of room for a diaper bag behind the back seat. I also tow it behind my 40ft motorcoach for family vacations. That is another special feature that not many vehicles can support, 4 down towing. 2001 tj sport 4.0.
@@charlestarloski8383 in the jeep I just used the seatbelts to hold in the car seats since there was no built-in anchore points. In my motorcoach I had to install some tie-down points inside a couch frame that I hooked the car seats clips to.
my lj has been fun for me as a daily for the past 8ish months and the only thing i dont like is the drone wich is my fault for the tiny magnaflow muffler i have on since i crushed my original exhaust offroad but apart from that is cruises just fine with the 42rle and 31's & the stock 3.73 gears and i drive my jeep about 110 miles a day and she goes up to 110 no problems it cruises at 80 perfectly fine it just has a weird vibration again wich is my fault since i did smack it a tiny bit....when i was rock crawling but yeah apart from those two quirks i love my LJ it has some soul to it that my diesel gladiator just doesnt seem to have as much apart from the baby turbo spool that the Lj doesn't have ofcourse but oh boy that gas money i spend every week hits a bit hard for me but oh well 🤷🏽♂
Have been looking for a tj for a while now got mine 2 months ago Florida 2000 sport wrangler 1 owner stock, have been making short videos on what I have done hope to upload mine soon, have done things that I have not seen other tj owners do and could not find videos so I made mine to help others out will update everyone soon. Keep on rolling tj's!
The fact that I’ve been daily driving a 1966 Belair for two years now really puts a strange perspective on this question. The 30 years difference and this guy is referring to a tj as not refined meanwhile I’ve got AC and power steering as options and that’s it. Not talking shit to anyone who thinks I am it’s just a really strange situation to be in when I start considering a tj it’s actually an upgrade in almost every way. Better gas mileage runs on cheaper gas has power brakes has 4 wheel drive has fuel injection has a radio
I before getting my 2003tj sport was looking at a 2008 wrangler v6 same price same Km i felt more comfortable getting the old faitful . mine is great on hwy floats around a tad under 1.9-2 k rpm at 110 kmh pretty damn good feels like its barely workin on other rds lets say 80 km h its around 1.5-1.6k rpm there is a sweet spot at around 70 km hr where it changes gear and establishes a nice low 1.2 rpm . when warm she idles at like 750 rpm lol thats peanuts 😂 love it the torque tho is what i love why she cruises nice at low rpm at relitivly high speeds . on a tank of gas i get 420 km maybe 450km depends on my foot 😂 not bad for a gas tank its size . Northern Ontario Canada Ehhh godbless . love the vid brother like as always
As well as pre 2006 amc inline 6 ol faithfull im bias against v6 jeep motors id rather pay same price for a 5 year older jeep with same milage if it has the inline 6
Ive daily drove an XJ for the last few years. They do decent, fit a lot of stuff. Picking up my first TJ this Saturday. Will be daily driving that as well.
Had one for 6 years and had 2 car seats in the back for 4 and 1 year olds. I had a manual and never had any issues. Even did a couple of 6 hour one way trips to Orlando. Yes it’s fine for a daily driver and family car.
I used to own a 98 two door RAV4 which was awesome for Canadian winter driving. I would love to get a TJ but a manual and small commuter is super hard to find these days.
I am a single dad of 1 and I daily drive a lifted 1999 TJ. I have the rear seats and all hardware removed and just use it as a 2 seater. Both my daughter and myself love my jeep. It's a great family car lol
I dont understand why some people put a lot of money on they jeeps to not enjoy them! I have a jeep yj for 18 yrs 7 inch lift with 35s and i dont want to know about another vehicle i dont even care about new technology. I will continue having fun with my daily lifted jeep! And yes is a jeep thing other people wont understand exept us! Nice looking tj brother!
I just found a 2000 TJ, has 35's 136k miles, Az car so no rust at all. It was a toad RV dinghy, so a lot of the miles are from towing. White and tan. Just love the look. Prices are out of this world. What muffler was on your rig, sounds good. As of today, gas is $3.25, I paid $12500 and could probably turn it around and make a couple of grand.
what about heat in the cold winter months? also what is the average hwy speed without it being pushed I have heard so many bad things about jeeps but I have always liked the looks of them I think that like most vehicles if they are properly m,aintained then they should last a while. as for mysel;f I like simple I dont need touch screens bluetooth electric windows I prefer manual less things electronic the better of them not breaking or wearing down I think one thing would be decent seats like leather becasue I get in and out of my vehicle allot , my l;ast 4x4 was an 94 ford ranger 4x4 great truck but it had cloth seats and with in 4 year they wore out started to tear on the sides facing the door because of me getting in and out of it, it was totaled and I couldnt find anotehr so while I was wating for my insurance pay off I bought an 06 lexus is350 great car fast handles excellent but to many things I never use plus I canmt even drive down a gravel raos and IU miss heading int othe backwoods , this things has to run on premium fuel( 2.00CAD per litre which is about 8.00 CAD per gallon) lol. also I prefer trucks or 4x4s and have been looking at older ealy mid 2000 jeeps they are very expensive and again my above questions are what have been stopping me t obe more serious on selling this and getting one.
Heat is fantastic in the jeeps. Depends on tire size. With my stock tires 75-80 no problem. with my 35s 70 feels as fast as you want to go. Sounds like you need to buy a jeep!
is this one youre driving your 6 cylinder? Ive seen a vid you had with a 4 cylinder. And would you recommend a 4 banger for a beach town daily driver? Great vids, btw
Definitely pro's and con's to daily driver, but I'll say I just completed a basic build "everyday TJ" on my channel jeepNdirt for my dad who needed a daily driver / forest service road vehicle / basic off road setup. The end result was really basic, impressive, reliable, and zippy. I love that little jeep on 3.5 inches and 33's. (Note I'm at 21 years of ownership of a built YJ that I used for daily driving for many years with the 3 speed auto and 35's and 4.10 gears and never complained except for when I had to take interstate trips and had to keep it at 65 lol. ) My new (to me) built 2018 built JLUR on 38's (as seen on my channel) takes care of the highway issue, but I love my dads TJ as it's like having a sports car (on 33's) but still have the ability to go off road. Great stuff man.
The lesson at the end of the day is that everything is easier when you're single 😎

Mine sits for weeks sometimes other than a trip to Dairy Queen and back every once in a while! And of course back and forth to various offroad parks. Can't wait to take my new TJ Rubicon out for the first time!
I LOVE faulting my TJ. Currently getting a rebuilt motor installed so she is down and out... will be back for 2019!! happy holidays!
Merry Christmas man!
So I have a 2006 Sport and the ride is very "floaty". Think I need new shocks? (60k miles on TJ) Or is this just the character of the ride?
Yea not sure whats going on there
"25 to 30 bucks to fill the whole tank" damn i wish
Kyle, what gearing are you on with your 35’s? 20 MPG is damn good!
stock 3.73
KyleSVT awesome! I was on 3.07 with 33’s. Now I am on 4.88’s with 33’s (soon to be 35’s) hoping that helps my MPG a bit. First, a rebuilt 4.0! Happy holidays!
@@nickconrad94 Merry Christmas Nick!
My commute is an hour ten and i always have a great time, driving a tj is like an adventure
I have a 2002 Tj Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0 liter engine, never had a problem with it. Love it.
Slap some 80's music in it, KC lights, boom i couldn't think of a better truck to drive every day for me
also i love the feeling of the road on my motorcycle, i cant wait to feel a summer day with no doors!!!
I’m considering an 06 LJ so this was helpful
Love my 6 speed 2005 LJ “Rubihara”
lame drive your jeep and enjoy it!
Good! Thanks brother!
Joseph Penkal
Is yours a Rubihara also?
I daily my TJ & I lovee itttt. My boyfriend hates it lmao, figures
sounds like you need a new boyfriend lol
KyleSVT 😂🤦🏻♀️
I'm gonna daily my new JT definitely.
Yes my 2000 is my new daily driver and love it!
Absolutely love love love my 99 TJ..it has been my daily driver for 20 years now. I am 60, and since my divorce, have learned to do all the work on it myself! Rear u joints are next..thank you for your channel!
The TJ is just a very short bed pickup ;)
Appreciate the tips man. This spring im coming home from my deployment with the Guard and I am going to get a mid year wrangler. The prices are fantastic and I can not wait to play up in the mountains with it!
Very cool man!
Stop and go urban in a standard is a pain. Otherwise I have driven across country, in town, hills, etc. No problems. I always tried to pass through LA at 3am in the morning to avoid a 5 hour knee aching 20mph ride.
I bought my 1997 2.5 4cyl automatic TJ for $3300. It’s my only vehicle/daily driver.
How did you manage tying down the car seats?
@@charlestarloski8383 in the jeep I just used the seatbelts to hold in the car seats since there was no built-in anchore points. In my motorcoach I had to install some tie-down points inside a couch frame that I hooked the car seats clips to.
$45 fills my tank , i daily my 04 sport edition and love it .
@Kenzie I'm also curious how long a tank last
my lj has been fun for me as a daily for the past 8ish months and the only thing i dont like is the drone wich is my fault for the tiny magnaflow muffler i have on since i crushed my original exhaust offroad
but apart from that is cruises just fine with the 42rle and 31's & the stock 3.73 gears and i drive my jeep about 110 miles a day and she goes up to 110 no problems it cruises at 80 perfectly fine it just has a weird vibration again wich is my fault since i did smack it a tiny bit....when i was rock crawling
but yeah apart from those two quirks i love my LJ it has some soul to it that my diesel gladiator just doesnt seem to have as much apart from the baby turbo spool that the Lj doesn't have ofcourse
but oh boy that gas money i spend every week hits a bit hard for me but oh well 🤷🏽♂
Have been looking for a tj for a while now got mine 2 months ago Florida 2000 sport wrangler 1 owner stock, have been making short videos on what I have done hope to upload mine soon, have done things that I have not seen other tj owners do and could not find videos so I made mine to help others out will update everyone soon.
I just brought a 02 tj wrangler.itz pretty stock..im daily driving it and moding it same time...I'm pretty much copying your build
😎cool
I was not a fan of Red Jeeps till I saw this one! Nice build! Coming from a former JK owner TJ is the way to go.
Thanks brother!
I own one 😁
It’s 2021
I can’t afford a new wrangler so I’m getting my tj
2000 model and I can’t wait
🙂
Thanks man!
As well as pre 2006 amc inline 6 ol faithfull im bias against v6 jeep motors id rather pay same price for a 5 year older jeep with same milage if it has the inline 6
My wife daily drives a 1995 Jeep YJ. Possibly going to get a TJ for some improved comfort
Ive daily drove an XJ for the last few years. They do decent, fit a lot of stuff. Picking up my first TJ this Saturday. Will be daily driving that as well.
TJ's are wonderful daily drivers!
I can’t wait to get my dads 1997 Sahara it going to be so much fun to drive Manual.
anyone else hate 4 doors or just me
I need a larger Jeep Wrangler yes they are very nice. I know. But the price is the big issue. ❤🎉
I have TJ I really like it I just know the defferinces bettwen TJ JL JK
I've daily driven 2 TJs and a CJ. I love it! Will gladly keep doing it too.
3:22 to make the soft top not flap you can turn on the ac or heat . I guess the pressure in the jeep stops the top from flapping.
Thanks brother
I just found a 2000 TJ, has 35's 136k miles, Az car so no rust at all. It was a toad RV dinghy, so a lot of the miles are from towing. White and tan. Just love the look. Prices are out of this world. What muffler was on your rig, sounds good. As of today, gas is $3.25, I paid $12500 and could probably turn it around and make a couple of grand.
Thanks! muffler delete
Perfect daily for a small commute, recently started doing 150km/day and not so fun.
Watching this rn with mine that has no suspension whatsoever do any pebble feels like a crater 😎
I still daily my YJ. It's about the driving experience and having fun. Plus keeping miles off my truck is a plus too
Yup! I daily about an hr a day. Never get tired of driving a TJ
I Daily My 2006 TJ , Love The Heck Out Of It !!!
I know there are more comfortable vehicles out there, but nothing beats driving my Jeep
what about heat in the cold winter months? also what is the average hwy speed without it being pushed I have heard so many bad things about jeeps but I have always liked the looks of them I think that like most vehicles if they are properly m,aintained then they should last a while. as for mysel;f I like simple I dont need touch screens bluetooth electric windows I prefer manual less things electronic the better of them not breaking or wearing down I think one thing would be decent seats like leather becasue I get in and out of my vehicle allot , my l;ast 4x4 was an 94 ford ranger 4x4 great truck but it had cloth seats and with in 4 year they wore out started to tear on the sides facing the door because of me getting in and out of it, it was totaled and I couldnt find anotehr so while I was wating for my insurance pay off I bought an 06 lexus is350 great car fast handles excellent but to many things I never use plus I canmt even drive down a gravel raos and IU miss heading int othe backwoods , this things has to run on premium fuel( 2.00CAD per litre which is about 8.00 CAD per gallon) lol.
also I prefer trucks or 4x4s and have been looking at older ealy mid 2000 jeeps they are very expensive and again my above questions are what have been stopping me t obe more serious on selling this and getting one.
Thanks! Yea this video is the 4.0L 6 cylinder. Here is a review on the 2.5L ruclips.net/video/VCqEKdkQpFs/видео.htmlsi=QphMAOVsDt5J3bnl
I have a 1992 w250 dodge cummins and it gets 17mpg
Been looking for a Tj for a while and can’t seem to find one!? What would be the next best model? :)
Here is a video I made on that question ruclips.net/video/ZW0Aq0iapbw/видео.html
