How to teach Urdu while being a homeschooling mom. We as expats often find it difficult to teach Urdu. Parenting as a first generation Pakistani immigrant in Abroad is not easy. We try our best to give the values and norms that we have learnt from our parents. My journey as a parent has just begun. When we were young our parents tried hard to make us learn English as it's considered to be a language of educated people in Pakistan it's a bonus card in terms of getting admission in elite school YES, college, university and then for a job hunt. We never worked on our urdu and always took it for granted now we want our children to learn Urdu because it's attached to our identity, children learn English anyways but Urdu will reduce the gaps of cultural understating, traditions and so on.
Asmara is my daughter and 23 months old. She has been learning urdu since the age of six months. There are many people in USA who struggle with their children to speak in urdu, reading writing came after that.. My purpose is to give ideas and tips to the young learners and for mothers(parents) living abroad.
I made her learn Urdu with beginners Qaida and other RUclips Urdu channels and videos for kids. At home we talk in Urdu, I literally have to make an effort for this. I made it a point for everything even animals,vegetables and colors in Urdu. Her Urdu is so perfect Mashallah. I think reading Urdu would be a bonus for her but at least speaking it is very important.
