Bug in Amplitube 5 uses 50% more CPU than necessary. Solution here

  • There's a known bug in amplitube which makes it use twice as much CPU as necessary. When you open it, simply toggle between dual amp and back to single amp to reduce the cpu load by about half.
If you use many instances of Amplitube 5 in a project, this will have a big impact on how much other processing you can do.

He says switch to dual amp then to single amp to reduce cpu usage. Thank me later

Actually, if it goes from 2% to 1%, then it uses 100% more than necessary!

Kudos! I was going mad. Subscribed. I steal a glance at Reaper more often while my system gets older.

Damn, I hope they fix that. I have noticed that it can be quite heavy on the CPU but that explains a lot =D

Sound City Studios from UA will jump CPU from 2 to 35-40% in Ableton. I know this is a Reaper forum but any ideas on correcting that one? Running it as part of UA spark subscription.

Great tip. Nice that you can run your computer at 32 samples!

Any decent audio interface can do that. But some do have absolute minimum latency that's more than your buffer size that comes from how rest of the hardware (your PC, USB etc.) and drivers are written. Meaning that even if you lower your buffer, you don't get any lower in actual latency.
RME and MOTU are very, VERY good in this regard.

@@Mtaalas My Motu M2 doesn't like to run at 192,000 Hz. It CTD once a day and blue screened on me twice trying to run it that high at 520. No problems running it a 256 and 44000 however. Won't even crash with 6 distortions in line at the lower setting and no audible differences in timbre. Go figure.

Please, try Brian May presets, those that have three amplifiers in the signal chain cracking even on buffer 128, audiounterfacerme ucx 2

Amplitube 5 FULL (Bought it on sale for $99 around Halloween) takes around 10 to 15 minutes to load in Reaper for me.

oof, that's definitely not right. I wonder if its something like an internet connection issue, firewall or something

@@TheREAPERBlog It did the same for me which is why I uninstalled it. I used Amplitube 4 previously with none of these loading and CPU issues. Not sure what the did with the 5 version......

Dumped this plugin almost right from the start. Shit is trash. First they changed the plugin so that you can't' automate presets using the "program change" feature anymore - ruined my whole workflow. Then it takes a million years to load, and worse, has giant lag when you're switching presets etc. Customer support fucked me around for weeks so I was just like "Fine, see ya." Switched to Neural DSP.
...actually NDSP plugins have an even worse CPU hogging bug, but they don't sound like shit, so I guess I can deal with it.

Helix Native, while pricey, is legit the best VST amp sim for optimization.

Do you have TONEX as well with lots of userbase models? Amplitube/Tonex has to load those causing long load times, another known issue

    Very good tip.
I am playing around right now and noticed I've got to do it every time I open a given project.
I wonder if there is a way to save the "healthy state" for good?

I was hoping this public complaint would get them to fix the bug sooner.
Looking in the changelog for v5.6.0, I think they've done it.

IK Multimedia support is not helpful at all and has no clue (or pretends). They say it is only me with the problem, when it is a known bug to users with a workaround that is really stressful. Seems they don't see the necessity to fix the bug. So everyone who experiences the same bug should open a support ticket to increase pressure...

Seems like the problem here is weak computers more than buggy software. I built my daw pc with a few important items: a stout cpu with good cooling, and lots of memory..64gb in this case. Not "top tier" by any means, but more than adequate. I run 2-3 amp setups at 96khz with buffer size of 128... like 2.3ms latency. Its actually inspiring to play.
