Justin, I am going to to do the same thing near a couple of my stands. Be sure to include the scrape branch so they keep using it all season long. - Bill

Does it need to be a pine? Most of the rubs I see in my area are on basswood saplings

It appears to me that the deer come for the scrape, and use the rub after they are there. Did you make the scrape or was it already there ?

Instead of GRK'ing to the tree, GRK to 2 2x4's, strap to tree, (if timber value is a concern

@@MidwestWhitetailVideos I just called a Christmas tree farm around me I'm buying there Scotch pines that no one wanted $8 a tree 6 to 8 footers that's a good deal, that's where people need to look,

Wouldn't hinge cutting a smaller tree do the same thing?

+Jeffrey McKee Possibly, but you don't have the advantage of placing it wherever you'd like as you do with the horizontal rub. Also, Luke found the the deer preferred the Scotch Pine for horizontal rubs. These are very sappy trees, and we're assuming they hold scent better than other trees, thus encouraging deer to revisit the area. Good luck!
