  • “written in 1908 while Taylor was sitting on the banks of the Blanchard River in Findlay, Ohio. Reportedly, Taylor's friends persuaded him not to publish the song, believing it had no commercial value. Since then over four million copies of its sheet music have been sold and it has become a staple for barbershop quartets.”

I've never heard a treatment of this tune, part of the American fabric, that I feel so perfectly captures the essence of its mood. Your guitar work is a welcome sound in these days! The inner movement and contrary motion near the end are beautiful. ... Generally, I find visuals somewhat distracting in the music experience, but this video is like stepping back in time. Well done, to say the least.

Really interesting to read the background of this one - allegedly written in 1908, Tell Taylor was persuaded not to publish it as his friends said “it had no commercial value”. This was proved untrue after it was published. Even if that were true, I’m grateful it remains today. A lovely song that really resonates.
Honestly I hesitated to share this one, but part of the reason I started sharing anything here is to practice letting go and to resist crippling perfectionism. So thank you very much for this feedback on the music and the visual element - it’s something I’m experimenting with. I appreciate your thoughts here more than you know.
