Theres a notch on each of the brush holders. If you will take a pick and remove the spring end that is pushing on the carbon brush and set the end of the spring in the notch, you can move the brushes with ease to get them over the bearing of the motor and when it is in place just pop the springs off the notches and they will automatically push against the carbon brushes like they are supposed to. Just a little trick if youre having trouble
Thank you for excellent Video Followed your instructions . first try drill seized immediatly . Found I had not aligned the "bush card" correctly it had seized to the fan . refitted and all is good ...SO anybody doing this fix be sure that all parts are in the right place .... the bushcard groove is very small and easy to misalign.
my milwaukee M18 impact driver is getting weak. it gets right away on the impact and doesn't hit hard at all . it takes way more time to screw a screw... so I opened it . seems to my eye the brushes are still good. they have quite a lot of graphite left..... iyo still could they be defective ? they look perfect to my untrained eye...what to do plz ? ( I did had new grease to the impact part of it ( but it has plenty left )) thank for your help.

how long were you running the drill for? looks almost new, mine looks like its 10 years old after a month in the shop
good vid, shame you didnt give it a good clean when it was apart ...... next time eh :-)
Well done both info and video.
A can of CRC contact cleaner while everything is exposed would also help if you have the time and money

open it up and look for the problem.. if there was alot of smoke its most likely roasted the motor winders and you can scrap it
Well done
