- In a report released Thursday, Statistics Canada researchers found that violent crime rose by five per cent in 2022, reaching its highest point since 2007.

Immigrants commit statistically less crime than the general population and there's a lot of data from around the world to back that up.
I’d be pretty pissed too as a new immigrant, seeing all the preferential treatment the Trudeau government cleared exclusively for Ukrainians. It’s not that there is inherently anything wrong with helping them, however the disproportionate treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers is not reflective of Canadian values. That is, unless this is by plan, in which case some one is profiting from getting Ukrainians into the country.
Out of those 1.5 million many will be skilled workers, have higher education and contribute to the economy than what your forefathers have ever contributed and this will keep paying for your parents and grandparents pension!
Just look at Europe they have been taking in refugees and asylum seekers. Crime has risen. We have refugees living in the street. In winter they will get desperate, and that's when crime happens.

Crime rate is correlated with wealth
inequality. So, yeah, I'd expect a crime rate increase if one end of the spectrum is struggling more and more and the other end of the spectrum is growing wealthier.

@@winstonsmith4108 It is afaik. I came across it in a stats class I was helping someone with, and it left an impression. It surprised me too. I thought that was odd so I studied it, and indeed it's on the short list of things that correlate with crime rate. Simply being in a state of poverty doesn't correlate well if everybody is in the same state. Introduce wealth inequality, however, and the crime rate rises. For what reason, I can only speculate, but that correlation does exists.

Yeah better would be to take accountability for him causing the mental health crisis in the first place! Before him, if you truly wanted help, you could get it. Anyone who says otherwise either didn’t suffer mental illness, didn’t even try, or didn’t bother trying hard enough or continuing. I got therapy so easily in 2009, 2012-2014. And mind you the therapy I needed is a hard program to get into. Even worse now, the waitlist is 6+ years. So basic talk therapy, is pretty readily available, even for low income, at least here in Alberta, I know BC when I lived there, was impossible because their mental health is entirely privatized.

Hell im disabled and if I want to even defend myself with something like pepper spray i get charged if i were to use it unless there is a weapon shown by my attacker. A few years ago, Windsor-Essex was #1 in unemployment, during 0.25% interest rates and higher than normal crime rates. Now, we have the lowest unemployment rates, lowest crime rates but 5% interest rates Sounds a bit like what Boomers in the 80s experienced but on a smaller scale now

I wonder what % of this came from the rise of people from other countries who don't share similar values as natural born Canadians. Many people are struggling and where there is poverty then usually crime follows. A lot of people will integrate well and become a productive member of society but some will take advantage of a broken system. Also what kind of security measure are being taken into consideration with goods and materials coming in by ships or trucks and what is going out? Crime is a operation and you have hit it where the main sources are in order to smother it. We the people have to vote in the right officials who want to take this head on and be innovative in a changing world. No more passes for criminals, deport if you have to and give harsher sentences.
