  • Motocross icon and owner of Ryno, Ryan Hughes makes his second appearance on the podcast. He talks about his injuries throughout his motorcycle racing career and how they affected his life and mental health along the way. He was paralyzed 4 different times recovering from all of them thankfully, but going through that repeatedly is hard on someone both mentally and physically. He tells us how he doesn’t want people to think the way he comes off is fake because it is who he really is, but he wants people to know there’s another side to him.

Wait so he lashed out at Cooksey for being concerned about his mental health... then comes out and admits he had poor mental health.. ugh.

To label Brown and Emig’s motivation to race being popularity is such a discredit and projection. It’s almost like Ryan doesn’t believe in hobbies. And maybe they still race, because they enjoy it, like they did when they were kids without the pressure? Idk Ryno needs to chill speaking on other people’s behalf

Ryan has had issues from his beginning in racing!
Everyone in the industry says the same but his knowledge, his connections keep him around. There is a reason he is alone in alot of these situations and he creates it that way.

Emig wanted to win . Ryno wanted to beat you . Both are great riders , but their approach was different . Neither one is in the wrong , it just a different perspective of life .... I believe 🤷‍♂️

@@mikeandrews1899 my guy you must not have watched the video. He’s talking about why do they STILL race. Not early in their careers. But ya you essentially are saying what I said. Ryno projects his motive onto other riders, which is incorrect.

No ... I watched the video . I was referring to the mental approach difference of Emig and Hughes , imho.... 🤷‍♂️ . And that is the foundation of who they are in life today . Neither one is bad .... or wrong , just different. And that is the footing to where they are standing today

I'm not really a massive fan of Ryan generally speaking, but you can't argue with his mindset, very impressive.

Ryno is a tough dog. I can feel the energy that people didn’t respect and treat him well during his career and he might come off as arrogant or otherwise but I don’t think it’s the case. Keep being real and I love the no bs attitude. Killer job again Jase.

I cannot believe he went through all that in succession…. It reminds me why I gave up riding in my 40’s, tired of getting hurt and seeing everyone on their cell phone (while driving cars) when riding on the street even pushed me off of road riding. It sucks because motorcycles were the one defining love of my life. Enjoying cars now, it isn’t the same though…. Not even close.

damn im a 45 yr old guy just getting into MX because of my son. My friend's husband was paralyzed about 15-16yrs ago riding at one of the tracks in my area. And most of the time I still feal like a kid, but I know there are limits to what I will be able to do, just hope I can recognize them when they arise. Couldnt imagine going through a broken neck

👍A sense of mortality is definitely needed....recognize and abide by what you know and just don't meditate on it 😉.
Riding, I always try to remember that I'm out to enjoy myself and do the best I can by me. There's a lot to be said for longevity.
I started racing MX at 17, was never what I would consider fast....but working in bike shops through the 90's provided me a lot of perspective concerning "fast" on a track. I incorporated street and sportbikes at around 20 years old, the same year I fractured my c-4, c-5 & c-6 in a car accident. After 3 months bedrest and a c-6 to c-7 fusion. A best, worst case scenario I suppose. A stressful situation, but no where near as rattling as Ryans' experiences in that realm.
I just turned 47 today, and riding is still a staple. It was kind of nice when the associate at my insurance company referred to me as a collector 😮😊 everyone else sees a 98 WR400, 20 WR250 Supermoto, 89 GSXR1100, 90 GSXR750, 94 GSXR1100, 96 YZF750R, 05 Electra Classic and just see a nutjob living in Michigan of all places with a garage full of motorcycle 🤣.
