The open row is done with extended double crochet ( pul through the first loop then finish like normal for dc), the rest are half double crochet. 😊

Thank you for the explanation of her stitches. I knew the half double crochet but didn't know the name of the Extended double. I was thinking double and a half? Or a modified treble? I have been crocheting for over 50 years and had never seen that stitch. It elongates the double without going treble. Good to know.

This pattern only works with 2 lots of 13 ch.
I’ve tried doing 13+13+13 as wanted to do a scarf and it just doesn’t work, you’re always left with 2 chains over.
Really annoying as 13+13 isn’t quite wide enough. Anyone have a solution please?

@@barbarasmith2693 that just means to chain in groups of 13 until it’s the width you want. So I get that bit. But if I chain anymore than 26 (13+13) the pattern just doesn’t work. So annoying as I don’t know why!

    • @eldenl1

If you look at 5:30 minutes, and count stitches, she only has 24 stitches. So her pattern is actually sets of 11, then add two more stitches to account for the two end posts. So you would want to do 11+11+11+2, or 35
      Pattern:
      Row 1: ch 11+11+2 [24]
Row 2: ch 2, hdc in 2nd st from hook, then in each st across [24]
Row 3: ch 4, Edc in next st, ch3, skip 2 sts, edc, ch 3, skip one st, edc, ch 3, skip one st, edc, ch 3, skip 2 st, edc in next 2 sts, ch 3, skip 2 sts, edc, ch 3, skip one st, edc, ch 3, skip one st, edc, ch 3, skip 2 sts, edc in last two sts to finish row. [36]
Row 4: Ch 2 turn, (3hdc in ch 3 sp, 4hdc in next ch 3 sp, 4hdc in next ch 3 sp, 3hdc in next ch 3 sp), repeat, 1hdc in last post. [30]
Row 5: ch 4, turn, skip 2st, edc, ch3, skip 2st, (edc ch3) in next 3 sts, skip 2st, edc, **{skip 5 st, edc, ch3, (edc ch3) in next 3 sts, sk 2st, edc}, sk 2 st edc in last stitch to finish row. [12 sts 8 ch 3 sps =36]
Repeat row 4 and 5 until desired length.
To make wider, chain in sets of 11 and then add two more chains for end posts. (*Then ch 2 to start row 2.)
**repeat from { to } as many times as needed if making wider than 2 sets of 11 stitches.
      It is beautiful.

I believe what we call HD in United States is what the UK calls DC.
Terminology is different between the continents.

    • @conniestone6251
      @conniestone6251 Год назад +1

@@kravinlife not exactly, hdc (half double crochet ) in USA. Is equal to UK htr (half treble) stitches.
Dc (double crochet) USA = tr (treble crochet) UK.
Sc (single crochet) USA = dc (double crochet) UK.
Tr (treble, yarn over twice) USA = dtr (double treble) in UK.
I’ve no idea why these stitches were labeled as dc. Clearly they are hdc USA (htr UK), however row 1,3,5… aren’t really regular dc, they are edc (extended double crochet US) . I assume UK would call that etr (extended treble)?

I counted 3 times, for me each repetition is 11 stitch (1dc, 2spaces,1dc,1space,1dc,1space,1dc,2spaces,1dc), and we need 2 more stitch (one a each end of the pattern?). My conclusion is we need 12+(11*X) +12 chain? What am I doing wrong?

I'm in the United States, and I'm realizing that our stitches are a bit different than the stitch names used here. What the stitch in row two... The open work row? It looks like a SC and DC together, but I know EU and US crochet stitches are different.

It is very confusing. For example, the stitch she calls a double crochet is one that I know as a half-double (yarn over, pull up a loop, go three all three loops on your hook). I also would need more verbal description of that stitch you mentioned. I don't know what passing the hook along a row of stitches means, either. Is she counting the total number of chain spaces that you should have? I will not able to follow this tutorial, sadly.

Correction...it is a herringbone double crochet...yarn over and pull through the first loop then yarn over and do a double crochet

@@sherribauer1060 yes, here in the US I have seen this referred to as an "extended" double crochet. Beautiful stitch pattern!!

Hmm... The only thing I don't agree with is the chain at the very beginning. It's not 13+13+13... It should be 12+11*X+12+2
For example, if you wanted 5 groups of the 4 open spaces, it would be 12+11+11+11+12+2 for a total of 59 chains.
Beautiful stitch pattern! I'm using this to create a cardigan 😊
