    I found one of your conversion kits or one just like yours in my 91 crx that wasn't being used. I pulled it out and used it in my 89 (cause that's the one that runs right now) I used it with a standard 12v 30 amp I had lying around and it fired right up. First time in 3 days. Thank you my man.

    Basically a main relay has two sets of switches inside. When you first turn the key on, you are closing one set of contacts which provides power to the ECU. In turn, the ECU then closes the second set of contacts which powers up the fuel pump. When you turn the key 'on' - you see the CEL light come on (for 2 secs) while at the same time the fuel pump primes (and when the light goes off, the fuel pump stops priming)

    Another common problem that I don't think you have covered yet is replacing the plastic plug on the clutch pedal that disintegrates, which disables the clutch interlock switch, and prevents you from starting the car. Its really cheap and easy to fix sometimes it is called the 1 cent fix because you can literally tape a penny over the hole to fix the problem.

      That's the little nylon plug thing right? I did think about replacing mine, but mine is still ok *knock on wood*. lol. I think there's one on the clutch switch and one on the brake switch as well.

    The only video that shows the pain in the ass process of removing the OEM relay. The wire harness anchor on mine was backward, there was no way to reach the little spring arms, so it was either sledge hammer or dikes. Not my car, so dikes cut the wire harness anchor. Then there was no way that relay was going to fit through the corner as it did in this example. Had to remove the bolts holding the dash plastic and pull the dash plastic just enough to get the relay wire harness past the steel relay mount. The new relay is going to be wire tied just in case that car ever comes back. This car is never going to pull nine-G maneuvers like an F-16 to need that much support for six inches of harness and a relay at the end.

    Hello Everyone... So my 90 CRX is another victim to this ongoing problem of not starting up. Was always working fine up till two months ago! This is want I have done so far... ( Change out starter, replace all fuses, new battery,) looks like the next things to do is change out (starter relay and plastic plug on clutch and check all ground connections) my Main Relay seems to be OK, when I turn the key all the lights turn on cluster and I can here the fuel pump turn on. But when I try to start up the car I get nothing.

    • @BudgetGears
      @BudgetGears  Год назад +1

      When you try to start, does the engine turn over? If the starter activates, then it's not the starter. If it doesn't turn over, then it's to do with the starter circuit. You can by pass the clutch switch by putting a jumper on the harness. You can also jump the starter to ensure your starter works. If it works, then it's pretty obvious there's a break in wiring somewhere. If it's turning over, then check for fuel pressure and spark.

    My jdi system turns off and I notice that it will arm itself but the ecu and dash lights are still on so I went through everything and I'm thinking it's the main relay sticking or just not givin enough time to fully shut off so I ordered one of these hopefully updates everything complete with the jdi and I don't have that situation anymore when I forget to hold the button to crank my car.

    • @BudgetGears
      @BudgetGears  Год назад +1

      Your issue doesn't sound like the main relay. The main relay gets power from the ignition and then mainly powers the fuel pump. Your dash lights staying on sounds like something to do with the ignition, which would be your JDI kit because the JDI kit replaces your ignition switch.

    • @BudgetGears
      @BudgetGears  2 года назад

      A relay is essentially a switch. It's used to take on higher amperage requirements on your vehicle. In other words, the relay will take the beating before your other components do. By passing it may run fine, but you may fry other things in your car over time because they now take on the load instead of the relay.

      @@BudgetGears so the main relay consists of 2 relays one to power on ecm and engine 12v supply for injector, solenoids exc…. And the other one is for the fuel pump . I see you only use one relay. In this case will you be over loading the ignition switch supply to main relay turn on circuit ?

    • @BudgetGears
      @BudgetGears  Год назад

      @@albono780 That depends on how much amperage your ECU and Fuel Pump are drawing. Your ignition switch will be safe since it's what's powering the main relay. Also, the factory main relay consists of a circuit board where as a universal automotive relay does not. I can't say it's not as strong as a universal automotive relay, but it definitely doesn't look as durable. Plus, it's only a 10amp fuse that powers the main relay. The relay I use is a 40amp relay. The fuse will blow long before enough current will go through to damage the relay or other components.

    • @BudgetGears
      @BudgetGears  Год назад

      No, the main relay is not the starter relay. The main relay is for the fuel pump. The starter has it's own relay as well. Are you sure your starter hasn't gone bad? Starters do wear out.

You'd be surprised how often dirty and loose battery terminals cause the car to start sometimes and sometimes not. Was everything working fine before? Personally, I have no clue where the starter relay is. I only know there is one cause the service manual says there is. It's definitely not something that commonly goes.
