I brought the game sort of on impulse due to its popularity (and I was scared it would go out of stock) and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s a perfect blend of beautiful theme and design with tight mechanics and solid gameplay. Works well solo or any player count, the expansions don’t ruin the core elements and just add more of the good stuff. Most of all I find Wingspan incredibly relaxing to play, despite it being competitive.
Bird watching as a kid was one of my favorite things with my Mom growing up in Florida and I was excited to realize I knew many of these Birds first hand!
This is one game that I liked, but didn’t love. I was never that drawn in by the theme, but the mechanisms at times felt clunky to me. I personally would just rather play other engine builders like Terraforming Mars or Gizmos.
This is my favorite board game of all time. I ADORE games that are easy to learn but hard to master. And this game is one of them. It's a perfect game to play with anyone. And the "swift start" option is PERFECT for new players. My parents aren't big board gamers and they even found the game to be easy enough to understand and enjoyable. I love that every game is different from the other, and I love the theming too.
This video was so well filmed and edited! I haven't played Wingspan. Despite it being one of the biggest games of the past couple of years, I just can't get excited about the theme.
Looks like an interesting game. My mom is obsessed with birdwatching, so I should pick up this game for her, especially since she's horrible at complicated games.
I agree with Ali Wingspan has a lot going on But if she really connects with birds, this may be the perfect game to introduce her to some more involved gameplay
The worst part of wingspan is the rules are just complicated enough that new players will need an intro round, while you "master ornithologist" will dominate with experience. That said there are enough varied strategies to build, as the experienced player i find myself purposely going for obscure strategies with first timers and then finding new enjoyment when i pull off some crazy build. wingspan is like an all timer for me, probably have played 50+ games, because i bought the digital version when my friends grew tired of the cardboard version. X)
Wingspan is multiplayer solitaire. Interacting with other people is optional. Watching other people is useless. Waiting for your turn is a waste of time.
I've tried to enjoy Wingspan as much as everyone else seems to, I just can't. It's definitely well illustrated with high quality components, but I think the engine building is mediocre at best. I prefer Space Base everytime.
Wingspan is an excellent video game on Steam. The computer AI is not bad even at the normal level. This is the second day I am playing Wingspan, and I will win some games and lose some. The more AI players, the easier the game becomes cause it will be less a "luck" thing. One on one with the AI really depends on luck.
It's not my absolute favorite game ever but I do think it's a good game. The world needs boardgames with all kinds of different themes. There used to be only hobby games with "manly" themes such as war and orcs or euros that were probably intentionally made to look really dry. I'm happy that things have changed.
I like this game as a chill one. But also as a next step up from an introductory game. I have azul and settlers of catan as my introductory games for non gamers then this! Especially for girls
@@AliRisdal I'm basic: fantasy lol. Gloomhaven, Journeys in Middle Earth, Bloodborne. Lot of non fantasy ones too but yeh. Im a sucker for those types. Cool to see you getting into the hobby. I know a lot of people like this one.
Interesting. Everything you just said is wrong. I hated this game. I found it extremely difficult to learn. I found it frustrating. It gave me a headache. I tried to give it a chance but my wife quickly asked me to put it away, and when she said "You don't like it either!" I knew she was right and never looked back. I was excited to try it but boy am I ever glad I didn't buy it. I literally hate EVERYTHING about this game. Which is shocking because I like Underwater Cities, Dune Imperium, Terraforming Mars, It's a Wonderful World and Splendor. I've learned to avoid anything this game designer touches because just trying to understand the rules gives me a headache.
Its a pretty simple game though... If you are struggling, it helps to watch RUclips tutorials and play with people who took the time to understand the rules. Idk. I like learning rules and this game didn't take too long to understand :/

It took me awhile to try it. I kind of felt the same way
I love nature themed boardgames and especially birds so this game was made for me. I love also the fact that it was well researched.
I’ve played Wingspan a few times and really enjoyed it!
Wow this seems like a really chill game. I might give it a shot.
Looks like an interesting game. My mom is obsessed with birdwatching, so I should pick up this game for her, especially since she's horrible at complicated games.
Thats awesome!! I wouldn't call it an easy game either. It's like a midweight game.
I agree with Ali

I need to try that for an engine builder

It’s a good game but I wouldn’t buy any expansions for it. And it doesn’t get played a lot Compared to other games I have.
Wingspan is great, but the Oceania expansion makes it amazing, the Europe and Asia expansions are also really good.
I just can't get on board with the theme on this one
I get that. What themes do you generally go for?

I see your point. But, I personally love birds and nature based games, so I got lucky with this game!

Also.. pretty mean about what you said about the designer. I hope you don't say that about other people.
