Thank you for your review of this device. I'm coming from experience with the old analog systems (because I'm old)... but I've been inclined to try to figure out this digital medium of recording. I have a Zoom R16 for instrument interface and Cubase for my DAW. Do you think this device can be integrated well into that setup?
I don't mean to bleed you for information..... but I'm still learning this type of recording. It's.....complex.

What do you mean like a Launchpad?
I've never used this brand or a keyboard this small. Oh wait. Yeah, sometime back in the 1970s, even smaller...one of those little Casio music makers. I made quite a few fun/funny kiddy songs for my preschool son and his cousins, at that time recorded via mic to cassette, sent as gifts. The kids loved them. They even learned to sing a long. lol Anyhow, this Akai looks convenient for traveling. Thx for your input.

That's a nice controller, i used to question its existence when the mk1 was around, their new version convinced me otherwise. The rgb buttons was levels better

WELP!!! John Mike I also have big hands BUT I can still use the APC keys to trigger my loops elements and Perculiar sounds from GP…. Long time supporter.
I would use it for triggering loops and telling the song in arragement mode on the keys where to go too

My only question about this device is, if im in session view and have all my scenes and clips laid out and want to record the particular scene, will it play/record only the highlighted clips in the scene or the whole scene (including the non-highlighted clips)
This will work better with controlling some parameters on your DAW. Looks good.

John, could you please recommend a 61-key controller that has the least clickety-clack keys? I prefer totally minimal with no controls. Just great keys that don't drive my wife crazy in the next room! Thanks for all your great reviews.
It's definitely for folks who prefer combo units over specialized ones, and the encoders default mapped to Live's device control is a welcome feature for those who use it a lot. I would almost recommend pairing this with the LPD8 mk2 if it wasn't for the fact that Akai got rid of the Bank A/B on that device for reasons. And that would be a question I wouldn't mind to have answered as the new LPD8 is great, otherwise.
Does this work in Bitwig Studio like it does in Ableton?
There's a default script, and probably custom ones.

I just wish I could find something like a launchpad but with KNOBS the APC mini is so close but I don't know if I can get used to just using faders for fx.

is it possible to use the Yamaha np12 or Alesis Recital 61 as MIDI controllers for DAWs?
If yes, do you know if they have a better keybed then the M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61?
Also if its possible to use them as MIDI controllers, why in your opinion they are not popular as MIDI controllers and there are no videos on youtube explaining that.

Great insight. Thanks. I am not new to music but I am new abelton and software production. Would this be a no go for a beginner or biginner friendly?
Apc40 mk ii has 8 x 5 too so nothing changes on that front. Although akai force is something else indeed. I am on the fence about the force workflow. I dont want to spend £1000 on force only to find the push2 and akai force don’t coexist nicely together. Nobody has done a video on both push2 and akai force integration.
The question I would have is are they endless encoders? And more importantly, does it work with Logic Live Loops that is the only reason I was thinking of getting a mini launchpad is to use it with Logic live loops and even better GarageBand live loops from Ipad on the go.
Also, I love how they labeled the soft keys lol like, I dunno I just find it funny. Doesn't the MPK say pad controls instead? I guess they thought that would cause confusion on this device.

I dont use Ableton and dont plan to, but can this device be used as a midi controler with other daws? I would use the pads to do some basic drum track midi programing, because I hate drawing the drums with a mouse. Also the 2 octave keyboard is a big plus which would come in handy.

Mine doesn't even work right out of the box. I know it's really new but none of the scene soft keys work for me except as instrument controllers. They don't interact with the scenes or clips AT ALL. I have Ableton 11, this should just work, but it doesn't. Until they fix whatever the issue is, I've wasted $100.
