Have heard of the term Goldilocks "something". Is the Honda VFR1200F DCT possibly one of the only "Goldilocks" motorcycles out there.
Not one thing or the other but just the perfect blend of awesome. Tick..... Tick...... Tick.
    Win, win all round.
Msybe it's just me, but I don't think it's a overstretch to say this is the perfect motorbike.

Had a CTX1300. Baught this not long after. They both came out of Goldwing youtubing. I've got the wing now, traded the CTX for a R1. Granted the CTX is a de-tuned ST, but the VFRs 1200 V4 is no 1300. It is something else.
Ride one if you can. I had to have the DCT. Love tech. But you have the option. I think DCT suits. That's me but. Sorry, no ST comparison. 265kg 170hp. Do the maths? Goes in VFR favour some ways🤷😜👍

Back in 2010 I had had Honda CBR600, two Fireblades but was considering something fast, beautiful and comfortable for longer rides. Rode the Fireblade to the Honda dealer, saw the VFR 1200 and thought it looked great.
Took the DCT 1200 for a ride. Seriously impressed. Nice on roundabouts in England, good speed up, brakes, position.
The gear change was great too. I've driven car automatics so I wasn't hostile to an auto bike. Honda got it right with having a manual option on the DCT as well as sports or relaxed modes. The gear changes were super smooth and fast. Typical Honda of that time.
    Great bike.
If they put a 22 litre tank, a few modern features like cruise control, charging socket or two, then I'd be tempted.
I really like the glossy paint in a single colour. I also bought a silver single colour Honda Fireblade because of the colour instead of the multi colour.

Only thing I'm missing is cruise. I'll buy a MC cruise once back in stock. Had it on my CTX1300. Like oem.
Love Honda candy red. Had 3 reds at once. VFR1200F, CTX1300, GL1800. 2 DCTs. Traded the CTX1300 for my 2013 R1. White & blue.
Didn't Vlog before on my ducati or CTX1300. No vids. No biggy, don't miss either. From here on in I add bikes. If..... If I must drop 1, itll be my VFR1200F for a H2 SX SE. If, if it's comfortable and relaxed. I will need to still pull 2-3 long days on it. So far thou, VFR1200F, great pokey, fairly nimble mile muncher. Few bikes out there can compete.
Pulled near on 500k yesterday, all back roads n twisty. Chucking 270kg, came off fresh as a daisy. No mean feat. Yeah I'm a big boy, 6'2 105kg. Still takes a bit of effort to lean a big bike in, but it doesn't wear me out. It's a hell of a thing. 💯🇦🇺

Had one for two years in Australia from new, love the engine, handling good. Gearbox, manual, gearchange absolutely shocking. Quality excellent but the big, big bitch suspension. At the launch the hype on this bike which was Honda's flagship was exciting. But it never lived upto Hondas expectations, the DCT would provide the answers to that awful gearbox. Luggage with virtually no possibility of suspension adjustment, means problems. Coming over a hill into a dip and back into a hill meant a hard slam on the front forks which bottom out really hard like hitting a brick. This was a continuing problem. It was not possible for me to adjust the suspension to get the correct sag and suspension travel (I weigh 75Kg) The answer to turn this into a awesome bike would be buy the DCT version, new decent forks and rear suspension. Wouldn't take it on the track with that suspension.

People are still chucking ohlins on these 15yrs later. Nah, I re-vamped mine. Front n back. YSS/hyperpro. Ohlins? Way overkill for this bike. But everyone's got hyperpro, nitron, wilbers etc on the back by now. DCT is fab. DCT on my 18 wing is not much better. So it's a reliable consistent stable predictable box. Tbh, was never ever going to get this bike without. Got the VFR before the wing. Would I get DCT on a VFR X or africa twin? 🤔🤔 🤔 Not sure yet. Yes, not ruling out adding a X. I end up on dirt regularly, I'm keen to do more. No, don't need to spend $4k+ on suspension. But yes does benefit from aftermarket. It's a daily query on FB groups. I was fine, till I wasn't. Won't rule out more work again at a later stage. Otherwise?? Fukkn weapon. Replaceable? Nope. H2SXSE....... Maybe...... 🤷 Now? Definately not.

Hi mate. I owned a 2002 VFR800 for ten years and put 200,000km on it. When the VFR1200 came out I was super disappointed at the time with the removal of the lumpy V4 sound. I now own a BMW K1300R as my sports tourer and I do love it (even though it's just an inline 4). I'm curious if you've ridden a K1300S or R and how you would compare them?

    • @Paul_Zernick
      @Paul_Zernick  Год назад +1

Firstly. Lumps. Got plenty. A R1 and a Jeep 6.4 SRT. No Jeeps not cammed. Will one day, but won't be a lumpy cam. Just your typical bent cam push rod V8. Opposite on my R1. Well, not, but kinda, it's lumps come front the cross plane. Characteristics of the cams change on a I4. Uneven firing order, all that.
Yes, the 1200s V4 is a totally different beast. 76° VS 90°. Unicam VS twin cam. Firing order 1, 4,2,3 vs 1,3,2,4. 1200 fires rear bank continuously, shuts off front bank when not needed. There is a whole thing to the big pig. Quite clever packaged motor.
Now, to other big donks. 1300, 1400. I4.
I'll pre-empt this by saying.......... ZX14R. No, not 1400 GTR. I'm not "currently" interested in a upright tourer. I have my 18 DCT Wing. If I really wanted to go upright, only, I'd probably go a K1600GTL/GA. So the 1400 is out. The FJR is out. But..........
I'd love a hyperbike. A ZX14R or current model busa. Have ridden new busa(hate older models) and it is sublime. Truly a thing of beauty. Smooth, powerful, effortless, endless pull, modern, throaty. Blah, blah, blah. Yet to ride a ZX14R. Hopped on plenty. I would, as all my current bikes, happily buy a 14R unridden, unseen. Just send it!
Yes, never rode, hopped on, or saw a R1, VFR1200F, goldwing at all, just baught all. Unseen, interstate. A 14R? Will gladly also.
K1300 was not on my radar at time of VFR1200F purchase. I've become aware of it since. Not sure I'll ever ride a K 13. Not in market to replace my 1200. If, I do, 99% it'll be a H2 SX SE in a few years time. Add to my collection? Hopefully a 16+ 14R and one day a current busa. If only one...... Then dollars might rule...... A 14R I assume. Though if I replace my VFR1200F with a H2 adding a current busa would be nice. Touring, proper, I'll keep my wing. Eagerly anticipating the 50th anniversary GL in 2025.......
However desperately want to try a K16 at some point. Buy? Unlikely. Reliability & dealers let it down. I want to lap my wing around & across Australia 🇦🇺 👍

🤣🤣🤣 You think a hard kunt like me cares about commuting? I go faster on my MTB in Lycra. When you come off a DH run at 80-100kph in nothing but spandex knicks, pick ya 💩 up laugh, true your rim on the side of hill and ride on for another 45km, come talk to me. Had more stacks at speed than you've had roots. Cute. You actually think 60kph round town is a thing? Can't even remember last stack that was under that kiddie speed. I think you need a bus ticket Lil fella, life's a bit above your pay grade. 🤣🤣🤣
It's all in the name btw, think about it. Bike vs rpg?🤷😜🤣🤣🤣 I've done 5,854 things tougher than commute a bike to a gym.
