    I had this a few times on my 2007 disco3. Usually a stop and restart will clear it, today it would not. Went into a lower power mode etc, i pulled over and tried the gearbox recalibration because it was saying parking brake fault and the recal always sorts that but it did not clear it and this hdc fault. I left the ign off for about 5 minutes, and restarting was fine and i drove another 30 minutes without problem and got home. I will check if it is the same issue as you have here, im taking it for code diag in a couple of hours, see what that says. Cheers for the video, im happy it was a straight forward fix for you.

      Hey Rob , not sure if you figured out yet whats going on with your disco .. but i have a 2008 RRS 2.7 v6 . I had the same faults coming up on the dash , car in limp mode . Turnt the car off start it again no troubles anymore until it happend again shortly after .. faults and limp mode appeared when i was throttling at a certain point weird to explain .. went to 3 diffirent garages not official JLR and one said it was a faulty injector but he did not know wich one it was exactly so needed to test all 6 .. i did not do that ofc .. other said it was the high pressure fuel pump and fuel lines .. and the other one said it was caused due to the steering sensor .. all did not add up so as a last resort i went to a JLR nearby for a diagnose and i had a faulty engine module .. setback 700€ for the diagnostics at JLR the repair i did myself .. JLR quoted the repair at around 3000€ found me a perfect working module for 200€

      @bramdeclercq6188 Hi. It has not happened since. We had the codes read at a friendly garage, I took photos of them all and printed them out. About 4 pages of them but no dates logged, so hard to tell what is relevant. He cleared them all and said to come back if it happened again. There were a couple of interesting codes there, one about the steering angle sensor and some about ride height, the air ride compressor, one about fuel pressure and loads related to the x and Y pos sensor which was related to the parking brake failure, now sorted. I did have the battery go flat a few days ago, so now I have it on a high frequency charger for 36 hours. That battery is 9 years old, still good as far as I can tell but could be dropping volts and causing issues...I may get a new one. I still didn't explore about that ring om the steering, maybe today when I'm putting the battery back in. That's great you found a good deal on that part. Hope it is solved for you now.

    Hi great video thank you for your time putting this up on RUclips you saved me a fortune
    my only problem was undoing the 3 torq screws it took for every to undo them especially the top one wich I could not see
    To make it easier to fit them back I welded a short 10mm nut to the screw made it much easier to start them of in blind hole had something to hold onto to start them
    then used a small 10mm socket to tighten them of.

    I had the same problem. Hdc + transmission fault + engine system fault on the screen. During investigation diagnose showed many fault codes including turbo, high pressure fuel pump, egr valves etc.. but later we found the main problem causing these fault codes. It was one of the injectors. There was a fuel leak from that injector. We changed the o-ring and never had any fault message since then.

  • @kmac540
    @kmac540 3 года назад

    I have been seeing this fault periodically for months now. Can’t seem to find the source. It seems random and I tend to think this might be it (basically if anything between the related suspension - steering - braking sensors is outside of acceptable range it seems to throw a HDC fault). Shut the car off and start it up and it goes away every time (not very convenient if your cruising).
    Will check mine this week and report back - thank you so much for sharing!

      Hi Steven, with a good battery (which is very important for Discovery’s, a poor battery can be the cause of many issues) you should have at least 13 volts and with the engine running it should read around 14 volts. Hope this helps you. 👍🙂

    Ok, I have never seen this fault repair. and am bloody excited to see if this resolves my 8 month HDC fault. I did try full lock to left and right in case the setting was out along with new battery, wheel alignment, new brake switch etc etc but recently my HDC, limp mode, no special programs is doing it 7-10 times a day. I have not come across this check or repair yet and may well be an issue on mine. Question, when you glued the plastic back on to the column does it have to go on a specific spot or does it lock in some where? Or does it not matter as the left to right will centralise the reading?

    • @EverydayWorkshop
      @EverydayWorkshop  3 года назад +3

      Hi, as far as I know it doesn’t have a location position on the shaft. Mine was completely loose on the shaft. It finds the position by turning full lock to lock. If it should do it didn’t affect mine. 🙂 Hope this helps and you get your issue sorted.

      Hi Šárka, I doubt the issue is related to the position sensor. Did this fault occur suddenly or gradually appear. Also is there a loss of power and has the vehicle been serviced within the required mileage. If not this should be your starting point. Blocked filters can cause this issue. Is it high mileage, if so things like injectors or EGR valve can be the root cause, or a combination of all of these.

      Hi Mohamed, very sorry for the late reply. In this case it is not the steering angle sensor that is at fault but the plastic ring attached to the column that turns the sensor. Of course you may have a sensor fault, but as in this case it is the loose ring which is not turning the sensor, hence the repair. Unfortunately I believe it would probably necessitate removing the full column in order to replace this ring and may still need glueing in place. I hope this helps you, if you have not already managed to carry out the repair.

      @@EverydayWorkshop thank you for your quick answer! Yes, steering is ok, battery is new, voltage is ok. This thing is driving me crazy! Truck goes great all the time, acceleration, and all, but suddenly, this sh*t happens. Suspension lowered and/or system engine fault. Maybe after 300km, sometimes 700km

      Not sure why this would be, it may possibly be your scanner and you need to try another type.

      Seems either the new handbrake is faulty or was damaged

      @@EverydayWorkshopwhat is the problem?

    • @EverydayWorkshop
      @EverydayWorkshop  Год назад +3

      @@fqanvlizad1482 This fault occurred on on my LR 3 recently.
      The display read:
      HDC Fault System not available
      System Fault Special Programs not Available
      And the air suspension dropped to the low position
      Firstly I checked the battery which was a bit low. Charging was good at well over 14 volts. The battery was over 6 years old so I replaced it with a new Varta without any effect.
      I traced the fault to a loose plastic ring on the steering column, that should turn with the column and operate the steering angle sensor. I have explained in the video the steps I took to repair it using some Areldite epoxy resin.

      Remove the centre console and use electrical connector cleaner and clean the 4 motherboards they probably spilled a drink on it and it corroded.

The same indy replaced my air/ coil springs so no more suspension faults 👍

      Hi Vasile, I had to translate your comment as my Romanian is very very poor. I translated your comment as: “I have a problem stopping when f appears and brake shoes.” I’m sorry not sure exactly what you mean, seems like a brake problem, maybe worn brake pads worn down to the wear indicator. If you can give a little more information I may be able to help. I hope you can translate this ok although I expect your English is much better then my Romanian.

      One can watch what the hands are doing and hear the directions at the same time. One cannot watch what the hands are doing and read the instructions at the same time. I think that's why the person asked.
