3700 years on a cosmic scale is not a long time. True north is slightly shifted over that duration, but Saturn at the visibility Senku saw it at is not possible at the time of year he was looking thru the telescope.
You could be in Japan or America, it won't matter because Saturn is very far from Earth. If there's a lunar eclipse of some kind, then location on earth will determine who can see it the best because of close our moon is to us.

    • @michaelhoward6498

@The Gold Life Hey just a little bone to pick here, while it's true that this year Saturn is visible from the 29th of January until the 12th of December, the range it is visible changes every year due to the differences in orbital periods.
Back in 2006, January was the best time to view Saturn because it was at opposition with the sun (29 year orbital period), and in 2017 its angular tilt was optimal for viewing the rings (15 years between tilt one way vs. the other) multiplying those two together gets 435 years, the amount of time needed before both the angle of the planet and position of the planets relative to the sun line up.
After 3700 years there is enough time for 8 and a half cycles of absolutely optimal lighting and angle, 127.6 cycles of opposition and 246.7 tilt cycles, and considering this anime starts in the modern world (though I can't remember if they actually stated what year the stone world began) and Saturn is visible more than 330 days a year, I don't think its accurate to say it couldn't be viewed at that location at that time.
If the stone world began in 2017, then the rings would be almost flat to the viewer, but Saturn would still be in almost optimal opposition in January, however if the year the stone world started was in 2021 then Saturn would look almost exactly like this at that time of year, with a nearly optimal tilt but not quite optimal opposition.
There is another aspect of astronomy and that's closest approach, every year there is a point where Saturn and Earth are closest, but every 29 years there is a point where we are the closest possible, and Saturn will be a little larger on years of closest approach than any other 28 years, but at those very large distances makes the effect negligible unless you have a very high quality telescope, so I didn't feel it was a relevant factor.

I am by no means an expert in astronomy, so what I’m about to say may not be a valid argument.
Remember that 3700 years have passed.
Is it possible that Saturn’s viewing position(s) could have changed in that time span?
Similar to how the Earth’s axis shifted and made it so north is no longer “true north”?
Something else I just realized if I really am wrong about the time passage influence.
Does that fact about not being able to see Saturn apply world-wide?
Because the series does take place in Japan.

You don't have to fill the pipe full by submerging it, or suck it until you get a mouth full. All you have to do is fill one side full enough to go a little past the highest point in the line. Then cap the bleed side with your finger to make a vacuum with the tank and pull the filled part out of the tank until it goes above the high point and starts to drain down. Then release your finger to allow the water to spill and you just created a gravity primed siphon without having to void all the air out or get a mouth full of liquid.

Torricelli’s theorem, also called Torricelli’s law, Torricelli’s principle, or Torricelli’s equation, statement that the speed, v, of a liquid flowing under the force of gravity out of an opening in a tank is proportional jointly to the square root of the vertical distance, h, between the liquid surface and the centre of the opening and to the square root of twice the acceleration caused by gravity, 2g, or simply v = (2gh)1/2. (The value of the acceleration caused by gravity at the Earth’s surface is about 32.2 feet per second per second, or 9.8 metres per second per second.) The theorem is named after Evangelista Torricelli, who discovered it in 1643. Google gave me this

And in 3700 years the change in how the planets go around the sun is very miniscule.

I have an answer for how he figured out how deep the hole was.
As we saw, he was darting around the bottom of the hole, taking measurements and such.
He knows his own height and could likely guess Magma's height relative to his own, if that'd make the calculation easier.
Anyway, I'd like to imagine he simply eyeballed it and mentally stacked Senku or Magma on top of themselves for an estimate on how deep the hole is.
I'm sure there's more to it because Senku is really accurate in this show but still, that's my best guess without much thought put into it.

Something you didn't mention in the video: the show never gives us a clear picture of the whole pool that was holding the water, so we can't tell exactly how big it is, but as they continued to siphon water out of it, the water level would decrease, slowly decreasing the flow rate of their siphon. If the pool was not much larger than the portion it shows in the widest shot, I'm guessing that the water level would get pretty low before they finished.

Does the whole thing about being unable to see Saturn in January apply only to the US or it's worldwide?

    • @Reason4234
      @Reason4234 4 года назад

It would apply worldwide, but it will change within our lifetimes as both saturn and the earth orbit the sun.
A year in saturn is around 29 earth years, so every year the best time to see saturn will shift by about 2 weeks. If you live for just 30 years you'll be able to see it in whichever month you want.
