Wonderful presentation! I wanted to know if the original research paper for the model described in the video is available. Also where can I learn more about the Economics of altruism, or about social preferences at an advanced level? I would be grateful for an answer!

The original paper must be Becker (1974, Journal of Political Economy). Becker (1993) “A Treatise on the gamily” is a good material as well. If you are interested in recent works in the field, google “handbook of social economics.” Chapter 2 (Social Norms and Preferences) is the most related one.

Great video! Do you happen to have the paper where this model was originally published?

The paradox is something I came up with myself.

You should watch on RUclips: The Trap Episode 1 - F**k You Buddy
It talks about Game Theory and Altruism among individuals. If I'm not mistaken the title "F**k You Buddy" is the original title from Nash's "So Long Sucker"

I quite enjoyed this video! I think just giving a loving action to a partner does not always mean the person actually loves the partner, regardless of the person's mood. A person would take such action if h'(a)+u'(a)+alpha*v'(a)>0,
where a is the action, h'(a) is the marginal utility of doing that action (joy-of-giving), alpha is the degree of his altruism, and u'(a) is the partner's marginal utility.
So people with zero altruism in a bad mood (negative u') would do that action if h'(a) is high. But it seems that some people are doing those actions even if the LHS is negative (I have no idea why). Personally, I always prefer truth-telling strategies with high every time sincere is high, and I don't want strategic interdependent relationships (I want the first-best allocation).
