I grew up in Cali, but have lived in Houston for 8 years. I appreciate the Houston History lesson, ya dig. I always wondered the origins of the words " elbows" & "Slabs." Great video.
I'm a Florida boy through and through, but damn I feel Screwston's style. Can't wait to get some swangas on my 97 'Lac. Would like to get some 20's on it, but not sure how well they'd fit. I've never seen swangas in Orlando.
Dude speaking truth at the end. Nowadays you got so many people with the exact same car, same color, same wheels., same belt and buckles, same interior, same everything that when they come down the street they look like they're rolling off the assembly line.
That is correct. In my time I never told anyone what color of candy and flakes I was coming dine with but I chose emerald Green if anyone came with emerald Green before me I definitely wasn't. Everyone in our car club set out to be much more different than the next car like ours. Customized low lows is our thing suicide doors cost a whopping low price of 500 for both rear doors in the early 90s, fender skirts a must, we would go as far as splitting the trunk and hood an tilting forward doghouse/front end, if it wasn't a drop top we would cut off the top and make a drop top. All of our members played a role in building our cars I was the engine builder and body man we have a painter and switch man aka hydraulics. We don't bang buckets or originals. I really enjoyed this video definition and history of Slabs it's no different than our culture just a different style of ride. Love and respect from dine South Kentucky.
I would like to add that I believe the design of the slabs were influenced by Texas' image. Big and relaxed. Alot of the old big money guys who wore cowboy hats drove those big convertible cars as a sign of status or boss symbolism.
The people that produced this documentary are the ones who brought em back mayn!! Texan Wire Wheels is where u get the 83'z & 84'z nowadays.. Different size center posts and all, depending on how far u want the spokes to poke..
they are NOT 83s nor 84s....those are crager wheels!! 30 spoke starwires wheel with extended spokes and the tww cap on them. TWW calls them 83s,4s for marketing purposes.
@juannavarro3620 the DESIGN makes them 83z & 84z, NOT the brand or the marketing scheme.. So yes, they ARE 83z & 84z.. Cragar never patented the term, sooo.. I can even tell you what TWW did differently than what Cragar did.. Instead of using PEWTER for the center hub, TWW uses stainless steel for the center hub.. Pewter loses its integrity over time, and exposure to the elements.. Stainless doesn't..
@@tavarezrichardson8782 If you want to see what the real 83s/84s look like google Appliance wire wheel, and you will see these tww are no where near the same design. if you search on your phone go down till you see a wire wheel on a royal seal tire (like a vogue tire but the gold line is closer to the rim and white wall is outside of gold stripe).
OG telling it like it is. I’m from Cali and the old vintage ones look cool the newer challengers n Pontiac’s look like trash. How u got elbows on a hemi? 😂🤣🙅🏽♂️
There is too many conflicting stories.. You watch this, then watch the video when they were at UofH talking about the slab culture. ESG said the complete opposites.
Whoever put this video together I salute you! Great history. Great lesson. All from my birthplace, The GREAT State of Texas. Holdin’ it down out here on the east coast made in the deuce dime. Already 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
@@khmerboxer214 Weld Wheel , is the #first company to create the Starwires , including the 50s and 30s. Beach party the laws was towing they cars and using tape measures. The way to beat that is to extend your mirrors on your slab. Mirrors similar to the ones on a dually truck.. U should be good then.
Asian dude, lives on the east coast, sold weed a couple years to survive working at the car wash while the charges cleared up. Pretty sure I should put some wheels and music on hyundai santa fe and throw a slab sticker on it.

I'm a huge fan of the old swangers they were so fresh, the ones nowadays stick out way too far
They still make reggies. They stick out just like the old ones. Just that nobody wants them.

I like the 72 eldorado convertible because that year still had skirts & has the side park lights that look like 76
Speak OG speak let them boys know
This is very informative history
Slabs borrowed alot of pimp ride ideas but then again a lot of car styles borrow from each other
Yep. Look up Les Dunham.
And slab was not Acronym. It was a word.
My ideal slab: 1972 Eldorado convertible. Longhorns on hood instead of chrome woman

This story is conflicting , and fabricated.
