    • @PetraButtrfly
      @PetraButtrfly 2 месяца назад +2

      They only look at super curriculars in the UK and it depends on your subject. It doesn't have to be a difficult project (it can be reading a book or watching a documentary), just something that shows you love the subject. Also make sure you focus on what you LEARNED from the experience rather than what you did and talk about how it affected you.
      Good luck! :)

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  2 месяца назад +1

      @user-gw5md3wk3q hi! If I were you I think the best option would be to get a job at a company that has something to do with your course. Even if you're a receptionist at an accounting firm (for example) you'll have loads to write about in your PS that will be unique, you'll earn some money, and you'll have work experience in the field for when you leave uni. If not, I would spend your time doing either a long and technical MOOC, doing lots of tutoring, or reading a really buff book. In my opinion supercurriculars don't matter unless you're really good at them, in which case 2 years probably isn't enough. The only thing I think they cared about specifically at Cam was my organ playing, but that's prob because of the uni (so my taekwondo, chinese etc all useless)

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  Месяц назад

      Sure! I think if you'll always have to sacrifice something - if you go out at night then you either have to sacrifice your sleep by waking up early to study, or sacrifice studying by letting yourself sleep (or sacrifice your social life by not going out). Unfortunately there seems to be not enough hours in a day to do everything, but you definitely have enough time to do a bit of everything. No amount of A*s is worth sitting by yourself for 2 years straight

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  Месяц назад +1

      hi! there is an organisation vid coming (although probably not very soon hehe), so i'd say i would prioritise your lnat, then coursework for now, then ps then revision around all that. my planner is a monthly overview, then everyday i have a section for my daily to do list. most days looked the same for me during sixth form so i didn't need anything more complex than that - just filling in the revision specifics day to day. priority wise i think getting into uni is the most important thing, thus the lnat being the highest priority. the ps would come next but i think coursework has more urgency as you won't want to be doing that when you're in the midst of revision later on (and i am of the opinion that your ps doesn't really matter anyway). lucky for me everything was over with by september so i just had to do my maths - i suppose you have a lot more coursework to worry about with your subjects :( good luck and keep holding on!!

    Did you study everyday and would you recommend taking more than 3 A-Levels?

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  2 месяца назад +1

      Sure it was hard but now I get to brag extra on RUclips :) I did study everyday for it bc for me doing well academically is what matters the most, so studying everyday to do better was a good use of my time. For some people, being socially active or partaking in a sport or music might be their biggest goal and so no point really in doing so much studying. You can always get into any university with just 3 A-Levels (although those 3 may need to be 3 A* grades). I think the biggest reason for taking 4 is to give yourself some leeway, so that you can either drop one later or you can flunk an exam. That was particularly why I took Computer Science. Some universities do express preference for 4 if you're aiming high, but they aren't allowed to write an offer on 4 A-Levels, so technically anything is possible with 3. Overall, I think that you should take 3 unless you think that you're going to get grades like A*A*A* or A*A*A. There's no point taking 4 if that means that all your subjects suffer (like BBBB is usually a worse outcome than AAB)

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  2 месяца назад +1

      hi! i can't speak for business, but in my opinion computer science is perfectly fine to do without gcse knowledge - you'll obviously have to spend a little more time as you go through in filling in the gaps, but nothing less than achievable. if you want to study computer science then i can't see that your lack of gcse would impact you significantly. assuming that your sixth form/college say the same about taking business i would assume that that's fine too :)

      I did this with a couple subjects, start NOW if ur sitting them next summer, forget the year 2 content and focus on the year 1/AS content, it’s definitely possible to cover in 2/3 months if u work hard so i would recommend that you cover the AS content over the next 2/3 months and make sure you know it like its your name, then move onto year 2 content. The year 2 content is not ALOT in my opinion but it is complex, so July (has like a week left) up until the beginning/end of october (or mid of September if ur fast) should be all AS then you’ll have november-march (5months) for year 2 content which is more than enough time to cover the material! With solving past papers & getting used to the exam techniques simultaneously! Goodluck, you’ve got this! It’s definitely possible but work hard and I promise you you’ll get to ur goal eventually!

      i spent most of my year 12 summer working through all my epq reading and my computer science coursework, which (if you do neither epq, nor a subject that requires coursework) perhaps isn't very helpful. honestly, i'd say the only thing at that point with any real time pressure is your personal statement, but it sounds like you're already on top of everything tbh so if you're already working on that you seem to me to be good to go. i wouldn't stress about doing revision every day over year 12 summer, especially if you feel like you paid attention in class and worked hard throughout the first year, it'll prob take a week or two before you go back to refresh your mind and commit everything. best tactic for reviewing content quickly from my experience is definitely blurting with mind maps (www.bcu.ac.uk/exams-and-revision/best-ways-to-revise/the-blurting-method) :)

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  2 месяца назад +1

      based on my strong opinion that understanding is the best way to boost your grade i would honestly start at the gcse level in all of your subjects. go online and grab the gcse syllabus (or an old textbook if you still have them) and go on bbc or youtube and work through every chapter and note down all the ones you aren't sure on, then go back and revise content only (personally i think if you're honest with yourself no need to do full gcse papers again maybe just a couple of practice questions). then i would go on youtube and do *chapter of something from year 12* topic review and make a mindmap of that content on a whiteboard or scrap paper, then do blurting rounds so look at the mindmap for a couple minutes, then try to rewrite it all and repeat. do this using spaced repetition like with flashcards for every topic over the summer. when you feel like you have a topic mindmap memorised i would move onto some practice questions using the textbook to fill in any gaps and hopefully at a minimum you come into year 13 with a strong foundation of all the y12 stuff :)

      pros and cons to consider! an epq would always look good on your PS. it could be beneficial in swaying the interview your way - they may ask you questions on the subject that you did your EPQ on, which is good bc you'll defo know smth about it. also, when you get there you'll be a step ahead on some bits (e.g. i did my epq on prime numbers so when we did the second half of our 'foundations' module, which was on prime numbers, i already knew everything). an epq does take a lot of time though and definitely isn't worth it if that time means sacrificing an a-level grade. i'd say if you have a topic in mind and it's something that you don't mind dedicating some extra time, particularly over summer, into researching then go for it. worst case scenario is you start and give up and are a little bit smarter anyway :)

      its really good, a lot of studies to learn though they are for evaluation points and they get easier to remember once you write essays/ create essay plans. also dont underestimate the sciency part of it, i do aqa and theres a whole subtopic on biopsych, biological approach etc. though if you are interested in doing other STEM subjects eg. biology, its stuff you already need to know/ should know/ stuff you will learn in a level. the essay writing is less complicated. theres a lot of content though so be warned by dont let that put you off, every subject has a lot of content tbh. hope this helps!

    How do you deal with burn out, towards the end of my GCSE's I felt so exhausted and I struggled to actually revise

    • @yanr4n
      @yanr4n  2 месяца назад +2

      to be honest i think your best bet for dealing with burnout is trying to study for less time, but with more focus. it's kinda hard to get into a proper flow state but you should always be working (i say should tbh i often fail at this) with no distractions at all just you, a clean table, glass of water, and your work. if you study like this for 4 hours a day (on top of class time) there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't achieve top grades. i'd be so strict with the timings to begin with - tell yourself that you have to sit there and either a. be bored or b. study for those hours, but then outside of those hours you must absolutely not do anything to do with school. that way over time you'll set a good distinction between academic and non academic time and hopefully your brain will start to be able to wind down outside of your academic hours so that you aren't stressed and miserable and overworked 24/7
