Thank you for making this technique so clear ! I have watched so many videos on this technique and they always left me confused and thinking it was a technique best left to the experts. As I am currently knitting a color work sweater I was able to incorporate this method and it is working great.
I have watched so many videos on this technique and I keep coming back to yours. Thank you for being clear and concise! One question, other tutorials only show bringing the working yarn to the front of the work, not the float yarn as well. Can you tell me why it is important to bring the float yarn forward?
I've been wanting to try this technique, thanks for explaining it with so much clarity! Just ordered yarn for a hat that has super long floats and I can't wait to try this!
I'm so glad that you liked my video :) I try to keep my videos under 5 minutes, but this one was a little longer. I wrote the script as I was working on a project that uses the technique and wanted to include all the extras, even if it added more time to the video overall. I'm very glad that you found it to be useful!
FINALLY I learned something new in knitting. Thank you 😊 I've been knitting for almost 50 years, so this to me is so fun to learn. Being Norwegian i knit Norwegian style, so i am used to knit in the floats, but i think this looks better 👍🇧🇻 This I'll try 🥰
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad that I could help. This is a format that I try to follow for all of my tutorials-short but comprehensive. I hope to see you back on my channel soon @pheonixhunter157 :)
I am excited to get a pattern of yours to be able to practice this fantastic technique. I have known of it but this brilliant video is the purest explanation I have found and now I feel like I have the tools to try it. Another bonus: I am greatly appreciative that the music in the video was confined to just the beginning and the ending - the concepts you explain here are kept that much clearer not having to listen to them through background music. Subscribed!
Thanks for your excellent feedback :) I'm thrilled that you have subscribed and are looking forward to knitting one of my patterns. I that hope you will share picture of your project on Ravelry or Instagram.
@@AlexisWinslow Quick initial question: I am new to colorwork and not having used ladderback jacquard so far, I have had to go up 1-2 needle sizes to get fabric comparable to what I would have gotten on smaller needles with a single (non-stranded) yarn. With ladderback jacquard, will I still expect to have to go up in needle size or is it stretchy enough to anticipate my usual smaller needle size would suffice?
I haven't really enjoyed colorwork because catching floats just didn't work for me, but I will definitely be giving it another try using this method. Thank you for this quick, uncomplicated tutorial!
Wow! That is epic! I never knew such a thing existed, and I've been knitting since 1963!! Hahaha! I have a pattern I wanted to do from Ficolana, and I read it through and thought .... well, I better not say what I thought! I was just going to give up and do my usual catching method, but realised I would be missing a valuable opportunity. Thanks for making it so clear! I'm actually looking forward to making the garment now! Hahaha! 🎉❤🧶
Oh! Nice! Well, then you'll be pleased to know I've been sending my small group of Instagram followers to your tutorial, and quite a few are going to give it a go, including Rachel from UNWIND Knitwear!! She has the most intricate two colour designs, perfect for this technique 👌 ❤🎉
I'm glad that you liked the tutorial! The pattern that I was knitting was one that I made up just for the video. I liked it a lot though, so I'm currently working on a sock pattern that uses the same motif-check my website, www.KnitDarling.com, follow my instagram (@alexiswinslow) or check my Ravelry page (alexiswinslow) for updates about new patterns when they come out :)
Yes, the process works the same way no matter what color you are using. In other words, you can have a ladder in either color in the same row. Anywhere you might have a very long float, you can use this technique. Also, you could have multiple ladders in the same section, if your float is extremely long.
@mrmcint for the purl side, the process is pretty much the same except you'll KNIT the ladder stitch instead of purling it. Also, be sure to move the working yarn to the wrong side (front on a purl row) to keep your strands from showing on the right side.

I'm glad you found the video helpful. This technique is so satisfying. Good luck with your project :)
Oh oh ok so its like doing a doubleknit but only in strategic spots to achor down the floats, that makes so much more sense now ty!
Yes, that's exactly right!
Thanks for this clear and concise tutorial! I especially loved the bullet points on the side! Those made very clear what I need to do 🙂
Thank you for your comment :) I'm so glad that you found my video useful!
Thank you, Alex. This was so clear and I like how you showed the markups on the pattern. ❤️

Your video is very well done. You made it easy to understand exactly how and why to use the jacquard technique. Many thanks. ❤

This comment honestly made my day! I'm so glad that my tutorial has motivated you to try out the ladder back jacquard technique. Happy knitting!

Thank you for this! You made this seem easy and logical. I am definitely seeking out your instructions for other new techniques. Take care
Fantastic! This makes me so happy to hear!
Brilliantly explained thank you
Glad you liked it! Thanks for your comment :)
Thank you, well explained!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome.😊
Wonderfully clear and concise LBJ tutorial! What is the name of the pattern you are knitting/using in the tutorial?
I'm glad that you liked the tutorial! The pattern that I was knitting was one that I made up just for the video. Excellent - I never could figure this out before. Thanks.
Is this just a mock fair isle chart for the sample you knit or is it for a pattern that is available? Thank you!
Would you use the same process in extended sections of the secondary colour?
Yes, the process works the same way no matter what color you are using. In other words, you can have a ladder in either color in the same row. Anywhere you might have a very long float, you can use this technique. Also, you could have multiple ladders in the same section, if your float is extremely long.
Do you have a pattern for this sample you show in this video? I'd like to write one up if not!
Wow!
Knitting jacquard stitch on purl row
How do you purl with this?
What about the purl side? If it's not in the round.
@mrmcint for the purl side, the process is pretty much the same except you'll KNIT the ladder stitch instead of purling it. Also, be sure to move the working yarn to the wrong side (front on a purl row) to keep your strands from showing on the right side.
Thank you, Alexis!!
