    Such a great video Katie. I am seriously considering a daily challenge for 2024. I've been drawing *almost* daily since November 1st and I can see such an improvement (I've been focusing on one medium per month) and I think committing to a longer period would really help to make it an enjoyable habit but also help me improve my skills to. Thank you for sharing your tips and things to consider!

      Thanks Evie! Oh that sounds like a brilliant idea - you are already well on your way with drawing daily since November! I think it's such a good discipline for us artists and I really learnt so much when I was doing it. So glad the video was helpful! 💜

    Hi Katie, I would like to start daily painting, but I am scared of blank pages and not making it perfect how I imagine it😔 and I have full time job coming home at 7 pm plus I love yoga and workout and reading books and other things and I found myself delaying painting coz of my fears and other hobbies and most of the time not even doing it at all. I would love to become full time artist but I really need to practice LOTS of practice I don't know where to start and even what to draw really to actually see the progress THANK YOU for your video

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  День назад

      Hi Maria! The fear of the blank page is totally relatable, it can be scary to get started for sure! Plus as you say, tricky to fit in to life sometimes as well. I think that changing our mindset to 'just five minutes' can help, and it still adds up to help our practice. It being a non-negotiable but also not a 'perfect' piece of art allows us to play and be more experimental! I'm starting a new daily art challenge on February 5th so maybe the accountability can help too? I'll be sharing a prompt list as well so you can join me and hopefully help take away the fear of perfection too! I'll be posting a video about it here on RUclips on Feb 2nd 💜

    There's so much great advice in here! Thanks so much for sharing!
    I've been drawing every day for a couple months now, I didn't actually commit myself to "I will draw every day" but ended up trying to squeeze even just 5 minutes in every day.
    I'd love to actually commit to saying "I will draw every day for x amount of days and post about it on Instagram" but I find this unnecessary voice in my head saying "but your IG feed won't look neat and pretty" over and over. I'm not sure how to overcome this. I probably should as posting more would probably help me find more sketchy friends

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  Год назад

      Thank you so much, Laura! Oh that's so lovely to hear! Just the act of doing it is incredible, it makes such a difference to our practice and mindset just doing even 5 minutes" Sometimes the pressure of making it into a challenge you share can be daunting, though for me I found the accountability really helpful! I also found it useful for building up a community like you say - connecting other artists who really 'get it' and finding friendships too!
      I find that a 'pretty' feed matters less now, but you could always just post some of them rather than all! It still counts as a daily challenge because you're doing it anyway, but you don't have to share everything if you want to keep your feed more curated 😊

    Well done again for completing the challenge :) I think I found your youtube channel when you were about 1/4 the way through. And it has been really nice to see your progress and how your art has changed. I haven't been doing a challenge myself (since the 100 day challenge) but I feel like I almost do create everyday...so maybe it's like an official 365 challenge 🤣🤣

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 года назад +1

      Thanks April! Haha it's definitely your own unofficial daily challenge - I'm trying to keep up with the creativity every day but I do find it's the last thing on the list when my schedule is packed! It was helpful for me to have the accountability I think.

  • @emmaneary6120

    Good tips Katie! I think having some sort of plan before starting must help. I do try and draw everyday but it's often working on the same piece over several days and it's definitely good to have the odd day off.
    Still not sure I could commit to a long term challenge like this but I am 98% sure I'll try Inktober this year. 31 days doesn't seem quite as long as 365 😅.

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 года назад

      Thanks Emma!Oh yes that's a really good point that I didn't mention! I definitely think working on a piece over a few days counts because obviously you're still being creative. I feel like there's a lot of pressure to create new work daily (especially to a high standard) which totally isn't the case. Oooh Inktober, that's exciting! Much more manageable 😂 I'm kind of missing the daily art challenge so am wondering about taking part in Furry Little Peach's October challenge this year 🤔

    Thanks for sharing! I agree that a project can be broken up into daily bite sizes if we can’t afford hours in a day. Can acrylic inks be washed off from the palette after they’ve dried up? Not keen on acrylics as they are hard to clean but what you did with the acrylic inks is inspiring (it may have been in another of your video, not this one).

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! I find it so much more manageable by creating in smaller chunks. Unfortunately not, they are still like acrylic paint in that sense and can't be re-wetted (and would need to be washed off a palette before they dry). I also hate having to clean palettes which is why I switched to a tear-off paper palette! I use the acrylic inks on there and then just tear it off for a new sheet instead of having to clean it 😂

      I've found it much harder since the challenge ended because I'm not prioritising it anymore, and it's the last thing on my list, especially as it's just 'for myself'. I really want to get back into the habit for sure 🧡
