Nicely done Shane. Acoustically transparent screen is definitely the best way to experience home cinema. Having your L C R firing from behind the screen is just magical and mimics what we've always experienced at the theatres. I look forward to your Procella P6 review, hope you are enjoying them 😊. Keep up the great work 👍
Dude I need to get a projector man. I'm missing out. I'm definitely going to look into this me and the wife are buying a house in the next few months. Can't wait lol. Thanks for video
Acoustically transparent screen hands down. I have my center hidden behind the screen and my L R just outside the screen to give me a nice wide 60 degree angle of separation. With lights off and movie on, I can't even see the L R speakers so they all become hidden. Having the sound come from directly the actor's mouths makes it a much better experience, especially when there's sound panning from left to right and vice versa.
Acoustically transparent is the way to go if you can. No need to hide the wires, everything is already hidden! Well, unless you can see them reflecting through the screen. As a former technician in the cinema industry , we kind of eschewed curved screens because they eat up a lot of light and contrast just by being curved. Does your projector not have a pincushion adjustment, or did you just not wanna mess with it for the review (understandable)?
Great Video! I have the JBL SCL-4’s flush with my wall. I’m wondering how you got the screen mounted in front of the speakers without the screen touching?
I have a 120” silver ticket screen, woven AT. I don’t think I could go back ward from AT. Cleans up the room and hides the wires, acoustic panels, etc. Great videos Shane!
Great video, had a few questions for you. could you explain a little bit more on why you chose a curved screen ,I didn't quite understand that. also that black material that you're putting behind the screen is that also transparent as well and what's the point of that .the last one is I remember watching one of your videos you were talking about how obviously you have to have a vertical stretch to go with the lens and I believe you said that you use a video processor or a video scaler could you let me know which model you use for that. Have you used the paladin lens ? and keep making good videos thanks.
I would love to see how this compares to a diy spandex screen. I built mine own this way for like a 150. My main concern is longevity. Obviously this would last longer. But 5 times as long is the question.
I have a question for you. I know you have now reviewed this model by elite screens and the Stewart Studiotek 130 micro perforated screen. I know the gain is a 1.0 vs 1.3. I guess my question is the difference in picture quality worth the price difference?
I run a custom Seymour 2.37:1 119" with Enlightor Neo Acoustic Transparent screen (and 16:9 masking panels) and absolutely love it with my JVC DLA-X790R. It has a fantastic picture with no moire effect and the sound from directly behind the screen makes the experience feel so much better. It seems like a small thing until you experience it.
I'm going acustically transparent, not so much to hide my speakers, but, to maximize my room width. 150" is the max I can fit, but it's pretty much edge to edge, the speakers would be in the way of the screen unless I put them behind, otherwise I'd have to go down to 135" with the speakers on the outside. Having them at the proper height behind the screen is a nice bonus though. It also brings my screen closer to the seating position, going to do a frame away from the wall for it to sit on, and also allows me to push the projector back, maintain the same throw, but hopefully reduce fan noise and light bleed. Sounds like this will work just fine. Not sure how long I'll be in the space too, 150" might not work if/when we move again, and I'd rather spend $650 on a screen I might replace after 2 years, than a $1700+ one.
Thanks for another great and informative video. I'm gathering information now for a remodel coming up in the next couple years where i get to have my dedicated (no windows) theater room. Your videos have been very informative for me in giving me ideas on what i want my room. Thanks again and can't wait to see what comes next.
How does the image quality of a decent projector setup compare to an OLED panel? I have an LG CX and am very happy with it but am considering a projector for a future home cinema project.
Can you recommend a screen that is automatic, I have my theater in my main living room, so at the moment I have a 110" screen that comes down automatically, but I'm upgrading to epson 4050, and can go as big as 135"
I've got an Elite motorized tab tension acoustic screen that I love and I can hide my giant Martin Logan's behind. Otherwise I'd have to sacrifice screen size to fit everything. 3 years and no waves. Can't beat their prices either
Good timing, I'm looking at the 150" of this screen, but had concerns about it's 4k performance, mostly from a screen selling company trying to get me to triple my screen spend. Lay it on me Shane, is it good enough?
@@therealshanelee Sweet, thanks. Yeah the 150" has been going in and out of stock at amazon, but elite is listed as a seller for the same price, so that'll work.
Hi,I need your opinion Does it say how many inches are not suitable for curved screen? I want to get about 130 inches But the dealer said it is not recommended because it is too small and the picture will be distorted and deformation I found yours is only 115 inches Does the picture look okay? Is it because of the image deformation problem that curved surfaces are not use it anymore?
I used an anamorphic lens which will curve the image to fit the screen. If you do not have an anamorphic lens then you should not be getting a curved screen. Your dealer is right in giving you that information.
For people with limited space this would be a good option. But it is always a compromise. I will always prefer my speakers to be out in the open. Better sound stage. In fact whenever i select a particular room for home theatre I keep this in mind and then design the home theatre space.
Had Acoustic transparent screen for years only way to go my comes down in front of tv with no problems at all with Reflections coming though the screen from tv when watch film on projector I’m using screen innovations screen
Nice, just what I was looking for. Question: where do I begin in deciding upon 16:9 or 2.35:1 I'm afraid that I am fairly clueless on the topic and could really use some advice on approaching how to decide what aspect ratio to go with. Thanks!
I went with the 16:9 so i can experience those imax scenes that take up the whole screen. For 2.35:1 movies, I created masking panels out of foam board and wrapped with triple black velvet, and I attached magnets behind my screen and to the masking panels. I can easily put up the masking panels and take em down in seconds. Works fantastic.
@@strobez38 Hmmm interesting... for that was going to be my next Question: Is there a way that I can have both? ...for which Martin you seem to have already answered with a resounding YES :)
I am a 2.35 cinefanatic but since I have the height in my room and I watch tv on it, I stuck with 16x9. A 2.35 wouldn't be any larger horizontally and I would just end up shrinking all 16x9 content. The only thing I'm missing out on is not having the extra perceived contrast of the matte right up against the edges of the image of 2.35 content which admittedly would be cool.
When you said this screen will give you a closer experience to a movie theater does that mean theaters use acoustically transparent screens too? If they don't where do they put the center channels?
Those Procellas do look sweet hanging up. The Procellas are great for that cinematic audio experience. I wonder if you will be moving to an AT screen permanently. I think you are too much of a videophile to compromise picture quality for the acoustic advantages the AT screen affords. I bet a ST130 G4 perforated screen might allow the AT screen to take up permanent residence.
Shane, you have a 32 CHANNEL processor but your room somewhat limits you to 11 channels. Don't you think your Trinnov deserves a much large place so you can use the other channels?
I’m sure in a recent video Shane did say he’s looking to move soon in to a house so maybe he will have a bigger room so he can add more speakers but I’m sure his current setup in that room sounds awesome
Not sure why Elite Screens sent you their AcousticPro 1080P3 material instead of their AcousticPro UHD acoustically transparent screen? The latter is for 4K, while the former is for 1080P. Did they not know you have a 4k projector and would be playing 4k content during your review? Additionally, the AcousticPro UHD addresses the drawbacks you noted in your video as described on their website (see below), including a smoother moire'-free screen and is brighter compared to the 1080P screen that you tested. The AcousticPro UHD acoustically transparent screen materials are UHD (ultra-high definition) is a moiré-free self-supported acoustically transparent front projection screen material. The dense synthetic weave of this acoustic projector screen is compatible with Ultra-High Definition/4K resolutions while mitigating light penetration for a brighter picture. The acoustic screen UHD design maximizes sound penetration with minimal attenuation without compromising picture quality. The UHD transparent projection screen material’s wide diffusion uniformity offers a broad viewing angle with superb picture quality across the entire surface. This provides equal brightness levels on or off axis even in a transparent screen for in-wall speakers. An acoustically transparent screen is the only way to go. I personally only have my center channel behind the AT screen because as you noted in your review, if you are serious about audio quality you want the dialogue coming from the center of the screen where the actors are. There is no way I would be willing to hide the rest of my speakers though. That's only for people who have HT speakers, the kind that suck at playing music and don't look beautiful. Anyone that has sweet looking speakers like Focal, Legacy Audio, KEF, etc. want to see what they paid for.
@@soundguy71. If you mean a motorized version, yes? If by automatic, you mean can you hook it up via remote trigger, I believe the answer is yes. I am certain it comes with a remote control and you also have the option of mounting an up/down switch on your wall (by your light switch for instance).
