@ Yep! Dan is my favorite movie critic on youtube, even when I disagree with his opinion on a movie, I can see it has solid argumentas and it is his sincere opinion not what he thinks people want to hear.
I don't agree as well, it's definitely an achievement that a horror movie performance got so many awards recognition, but her performence definitely isn't up there with Toni Collette in Hereditary or Willem Defoe in The Lighthouse
@Dingalsodong I think she is such a lock because it was a great performance for a much buzzed about movie and most importantly, she’s been acting for so long that this will be basically a lifetime achievement award Oscar (that we’ve seen handed out several times before.)
When Dune came out, everyone said Nolan should be thankful that Dune didn't come out in 23 because Dune would win over Oppenheimer... but now no categories besides VFX really have a chance. If this is really what happens to a March release, why did WB release it in March?
Because they care more about the money than the Oscars? They probably released it in March because they weren't 100% confidence that it could compete with summer blockbusters, yet by March, people are typically wanting to see something on the big screen. It ends up being one of the highest grossers of the year. You have to remember that the first came out during the pandemic and didn't really give indicators that the sequel would be a big blockbuster. The only time a studio wants to "save something" for Oscar season is when they suspect the buzz will lead to more attention and box office.
They also get hung up about delaying films because it costs them money. I'm sure contracts have penalties if things don't come out within x amount of time etc and its so they have to pump out a stream of movies rather than making a corker and sitting on it. So I get the impression they only sit on it if there's a great case for force majeure, or if its to finish the damn thing, or its to release it at a slightly better window within 3months of finishing. It's crazy though, right? If Dune 2 had gone toe to toe with Gladiator 2 it would have wiped the floor with it and probably been showered with noms.
Josh Brolin said if Denis Villeneuve isn't nominated for Best Director on Dune Part Two for The Academy Awards, he will quit acting, hes not being serious, but does show how much he likes the work that went into making it.
100% agree that denis villneuve should be nominated for best director (and for best adapted sceenplay) and should win. The very difficult task of adapting Dune and Dune part 2 into a movies was an achievement in istelf, but also to make it relatable to a wide audiance and for it to be the biggest movie for a good portion of the year was also a big achievement. Sadly, I think it only will only win in a few technical categories like Visual Effects and cinematography.
I’m so glad you gave Adam Pearson a shoutout! I love him, and he was absolutely fantastic in A Different Man. In a perfect world, he’d be getting the nomination.
Demi Moore is quite literally the front runner, but I understand thinking of her as questionable due to the nature of the film. She has gotten nominations for other award shows.
I think she might be the front runner if she gets in, but I don’t think her nomination is the most secure in the lineup. I’d be a lot more chocked if for example Mikey Madison missed the nomination
@films5555 I agree on your "if." But I feel Marianne Jean-Baptiste or Mikey Madison, is winning BAFTA. BAFTA tends to do the opposite and only care about the actual performance, not narrative. They are quite cut throat. Also, remember last year Gladstone won SAG & Globe, but at the end, Stone got the Oscar 2 weeks after winning BAFTA.

For us Mexicans, this movie has been offensive. It's exactly what happens in the movie *American Fiction*, and that's why it’s winning so many awards. The director has relied on all the stereotypes and negative images of our country, making foreigners adopt an attitude of supposed experts and say, “Of course, he has captured the reality of this violent country, where the misunderstood drug lord reigns, someone who can change, and oh, there’s always a yellowish atmosphere,” without realizing that we defend our culture, our way of speaking that has evolved from Spanish and our indigenous languages. Even when it comes to insults and swear words, we know the right moment and rhythm. Every region of our country specializes in this, and we carry music in our hearts. We can tell that what they’re portraying on screen isn’t music, but bad translations from Google Translate, of which we can’t even understand three words without subtitles. Truly, this director failed to do the research on our culture, to choose the right casting, and to understand that the issues depicted hurt us. Drug lords won’t become good just by changing their gender, nor will they redeem themselves by looking for the remains of those they themselves disappeared.
Thanks to you, I became aware of and watched Ghostlight. Thank you so much! It’s on my favorite movies list for 2024! Glad to see it got some nominations for Indie Spirit Awards.
I saw A Complete Unknown last night and as someone who’s mother raised him on folk music and who was & is a Pete Seeger fan, I really thought Ed Norton’s performance was spot on. Almost uncanny.
I think after what happened with LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya a few years ago, there really is no set definition for the supporting actor category. I remember when Dune was nominated for just about every production and technical award, but completely passed over Denis Villeneuve. How did all that collaboration come together without a top notch director?
I’m thinking about the recent AI gate on the Brutalist and the possibility that it’ll cost some nomination in acting - AI was used to enhance the Hungarian accent spoken by Brody and Jones. It’s a polarizing debate, I wonder how much dialogue is impacted by this.. Can’t wait to watch the movie and see for myself next month
The story about the AI usage came out after the nomination voting deadline passed, so it wouldn't have any effect there. But if it continues to be controversial, it could cost Brody the win, especially since Chalamet and Fiennes are already pretty close competition.
From what I hear it was only the dialogue that was in Hungarian to make him sound more like a native speaker. I hope it was more akin to like using an editing tool to perfect the audio than generating anything from scratch but I'm not sure
I think dennis quaid deserves a nomination for supporting actor in the substance because he was phenomenal as the filthy harvey weinstein character. He wont get nominated sadly probably due to his voting preferences but he deserves credit
Yayyyy! Love to see Fernanda Torres in your list! Hope she’s nominated on Thursday I would be really surprised if Dune didn’t get a Best picture nomination. I think it’s basically a lock
Im surprised the academy has never instituted a mandate that if you are on screen x amount or your dialogue is x amount of the movie you must be in the lead acting category.
There's a conundrum to that though. Anthony Hopkins is crucual to Silence of the Lambs right? That's the lead male performance? 16min of screen time. That was it.
The Academy hasn’t nominated co leads since Thelma and Louise. Studio strategists know that it clouds their chances hence putting them in different categories to avoid split voting
I mean, ariana and zoe are co-leads as well, the whole supporting categories are a bit of a sham (only isabela rossallini is actually supporting and not a lead it feels like lol)
My Prediction for Best Picture: Anora The Brutalist A Complete Unknown Conclave Dune: Part Two Emilia Perez Nickel Boys Sing Sing The Substance Wicked Outside Looking In: A Real Pain Nosferatu I’m Still Here September 5 The Wild Robot I’m Still Here
Will you be covering the Brutalist (and Emilia Pérez) AI scandal? As well as the Emilia Pérez category scandal (with voters thinking Zoe Saldana should be the lead not supporting - and you mentioned this as I was typing this lol).
23:07 I loved The Wild Robot, was my favourite film of last year that’s in this year’s nominations (my actual favourite was All Of Us Strangers as it was a January release here).
Dan I feel so seen by your shoutout to Karen karagulian. I thought he was the standout supporting performance in that film as well. Everything he said had me crying with laughter
Just looking at the list now - I like those who are nominated this year, feels closer to celebrating the art of making movies rather than feeding egos, just my take. Looking forward to the follow-up
Spoiler Alert... I think if A Complete Unknown wins Best Picture, the audience should have a "Dylan Goes Electric" moment, and throw stuff at the stage.
Thank you for the Ghostlight love. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time I hear an Oscar discussion without it. It was spectacular (my second favourite film of the year behind Dune Part 2 so far). I also really enjoyed His Three Daughters, which made me question Netflix's strategy with that film.
Ghostlight was one of my favorite movies of last year and I appreciate you including it. Also I loved the wild robot and agree Sebastian Stan deserves a nomination for a different man. Also I agree on dune part 2 being snubbed. Villenuve will hopefully get his flowers someday.
Do you have it in you for an Emilia Perez review? If not, what were your thoughts? I love musicals, and this was the first one I actively didn't like, but can also admit it was well made and compelling
Did you like the songs? I don't think I liked a single one. And the Vaginoplasty one is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in a musical, or just in general.
@NateBeeman agreed on that song. I liked Zoe's dancing during the rich people "were gonna get them" song, but that's about it, and it has the vibe that that was meant to be the best song. I've never experienced not liking nearly every song before lol

I would love to see the three of Mikey Madison, Yuriy Borisov, and Vache Tovmasyan to be nominated for best actress, best supporting actor, and best actor. It's my movie of the year so my bias is strong, but I don't think they will all win.
Dune Part 2 (best picture) and Denis Villeneuve (best director) simply must be at least nominated... if one movie really screams Oscar in the traditional sense, it s this one, even more so Villeneuve as its director who made it happen and succeed.... but we re in 2024/25. Given what s praised and hyped these days, I bet Steven Spielberg would never have gotten any Oscar at all...
Would love to see Dan do a review for Hard Truths. Even with the pedigree of Mike Leigh and the potential buzz surrounding Marianne Jean-Baptiste in the awards race I can very easily see it going overlooked
One thing to keep in mind about the directors branch of the Academy, is that they tend to vote for director-led movies. Basically, movies that wouldn't happen with someone else in charge. That's why, in my opinion, Dune and Barbie missed out on the Oscar for best director, because they are seen more as studio movies. Villeneuve and Gerwig worked hard, but if they wouldn't had taken on these projects, the movies would have still come out under someone else's hands (looking very different, of course). I'm guessing that the nominees for best director this year will be: All that We Imagine as Light Anora The Brutalist Emilia Perez The Substance
Dear Dan, I am totally surprised that the movie “The Room Next Door” is not in the running for the Oscars. I think Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore both deserved an Oscar for their intense and sensitive performances. I would also have thought that a movie like “Lee” (Miller) would be a typical candidate for the Oscars and Kate Winslet would have a good chance of being nominated. My favorite film of 2024, however, was “Nosferatu”. I thought all the actors were great there too. But even if the film has little chance of being nominated in the main categories, I hope that at least the breathtakingly beautiful costumes will be recognized. Best regards from northern Germany, Fred
I guess I should prepare for the worst if Felicity Jones doesn't get nominated. It's a real shame, even when she appears halfway through the movie, The Brutalist is a career best performance that she has given, way better than The Theory Of Everything imo and it'd be a shame if she got noninated for playing Jane Hawking but doesn't receive a second one for The Brutalist 😢 Since that BAFTA nomination, I genuinely hope there is a miracle for her
Not sure you heard the news about The Brutalist? The editor use AI on dialog and using Hungarian language in AI by Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and i was planning to see The Brutalist until they dropped the news last week and there's a rumor that The Brutalist will be disqualified for best picture and maybe several categories including best actor and best actress.
The disqualification absolutely will not happen. AI was used to adjust vowel sounds on some of the Hungarian sections, in collaboration with the actors and language experts. I think it’s a story that’s been way overblown, and honestly, I think a lot of movies are using AI as a tool to adjust things, not as a replacement for humans.
Please see the movie and judge for yourself. It absolutely does not detract from the film and if the editor hadn't said anything, no one would know. I'm against AI replacing artists, but that's not what happened here.
As a Hungarian, if they're not using Hungarian actors, I'm glad they at least try to adjust the accents during editing. I'd much rather be able to submerge in the full 3,5 hours (holy cow that's long) than be taken out of the movie every time they try to talk in their "native" language. I have a lot of love for Oppenheimer, but Benny Safdie as Edward Teller had a pretty generic, very slavic sounding Eastern European English accent that made me mentally pause a couple of times. (I'll give it to you that I represent a very smal minority of moviegoers in this case.) As far as the editing tool using "AI", I'd want to know what that means here exactly. With "AI" being the current tech buzzword it may just be a slightly better tool for the job. Maybe it takes away from how we view the performances, but I'd argue any talk of extensive editing would do that.
Do you really think Adrian Brody has a chance after it was revealed that they used AI to fix his accent? Isn't an actor's accent a pretty important part of acting?
Not sure about Dune 2, they always include the Epic movies since they started with the 10 nominees (same as the good animated movies like Up or Wally), and Dune 2 I believe has been even more popular than Dune1 (and that one was nominated). Also, the Emilia Pérez backlash is getting really strong, maybe they'll bail and avoid conflict there (except maybe for Zoe's nomination).

I haven’t seen every big movie this year but all I’ll say is I’ve yet to see a supporting performance better than Chris Hemsworth in Furiosa. He adds a real jolt of manic energy to his early scenes and does a great job of showing how hollow Dementus has become after the time jump. Maybe I’m on an island here but I’m willing to die on this hill.
What about Saoirse Ronan for lead actress in "The Outrun"? She in every scene and is amazing. The range of emotions she shows is incredible. She made me laugh, cry, cringe; I felt how she felt. I don't think Mangold is getting in. He only has DGA and not much else, despite the film's momentum in the guilds. DGA is more normie while the Director's branch is notoriously highbrow nowadays. Do a review for I'm Still Here! It will be a sucess with brazilians, the whole country is cheering for the movie, you gonna pick up a few subscribers from here I think.
I'm really looking forward to hearing Dan's impressions of the movie. Hope he does review it!
@ Yep! Dan is my favorite movie critic on youtube, even when I disagree with his opinion on a movie, I can see it has solid argumentas and it is his sincere opinion not what he thinks people want to hear.
Pure Brazilian trash
I think Demi Moore is as big a lock to win best actress as anyone is to win anything this year.
I don't quite agree with that right now.
@@steve.santiago You are going too far with Demi Moore. I still think that Mikey Madison is the real actual front runner for Anora.
The only time a studio wants to "save something" for Oscar season is when they suspect the buzz will lead to more attention and box office.
big movies never win awards for acting, look at the movies hes talking about has anyone other then the judges seen any of these movies
I thought she WAS questionable at first, but I think she's now locked in.
She's just won the Globe. Let's wait until at least SAG. Demi won't win BAFTA. Demi is giving Mickey Rourke & Michael Keaton.
I think she might be the front runner if she gets in, but I don’t think her nomination is the most secure in the lineup. I’d be a lot more chocked if for example Mikey Madison missed the nomination
If Demi wins both the Sag & Bafta awards, she will prevail.
My personal picks for best Director:
Denis Villenuve - Dune Part 2
Coralie Fargeat - The Substance
George Miller - Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Edward Berger - Conclave
Mike Cheslik - Hundreds of Beavers
Furiosa wasn’t good, I walked out from boredom
@@daegon1985I didn't walk out of the cinema bit I also found mad max fury Road boring as well. Stunning but boring.
O we are in a car chase,
o we are still in a car chase, wow we are still in a car chase, omg we are still in a car chase.
I say this a s someone who likes formula 1 😂
We can all agree that these are the nominees for Best Animated Films:
*Flow
*Inside Out 2
*Wild Robot
*Memoir of a snail
*Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
My kids are getting bigger and "too old" for the "baby stuff," but on your Wild Robot review/recommendation i convinced them to check it out. Went from "ugh, FINE" to "woah that was good!" 😊
For us Mexicans, this movie has been offensive.
Trans people also find Emilia Pérez offensive.
Thanks to you, I became aware of and watched Ghostlight. Thank you so much! It’s on my favorite movies list for 2024! Glad to see it got some nominations for Indie Spirit Awards.
Love the ghostlight recognition
@@pianist150 also ai generated imagery
@@lofirecordclubVery minimal. Just at the very end.
@@NateBeeman I mean I don't feel like it really matters, still undercuts artists and takes jobs away, despite what they may say to save face
I think dennis quaid deserves a nomination for supporting actor in the substance because he was phenomenal as the filthy harvey weinstein character. He wont get nominated sadly probably due to his voting preferences but he deserves credit
Quaid deserves an Oscar nom, but his public support of maga (not a fan) has destroyed his chances for a nomination.
Yayyyy! Love to see Fernanda Torres in your list! Hope she’s nominated on Thursday
I would be really surprised if Dune didn’t get a Best picture nomination.
Your best picture set is way better than what your predictions are oml love for animation, horror, and sci-fi 💜
Culken is a co-lead. There's barely a scene in the whole movie he isn't in.
But also, I'm cool with him winning best lead. He's great.
The Academy hasn’t nominated co leads since Thelma and Louise. Studio strategists know that it clouds their chances hence putting them in different categories to avoid split voting
@ but Jessie isn’t a contender, so that shouldn’t matter.
I mean, ariana and zoe are co-leads as well, the whole supporting categories are a bit of a sham (only isabela rossallini is actually supporting and not a lead it feels like lol)
Brilliant video Dan!
Guy Pearce is 100% getting a nomination. He was too good and too important in a film that has a really good chance at winning best picture.
My Prediction for Best Picture:
Anora
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune: Part Two
Emilia Perez
Nickel Boys
Sing Sing
The Substance
Wicked
Outside Looking In:
A Real Pain
Nosferatu
I’m Still Here
September 5
The Wild Robot
I’m Still Here
Will you be covering the Brutalist (and Emilia Pérez) AI scandal? As well as the Emilia Pérez category scandal (with voters thinking Zoe Saldana should be the lead not supporting - and you mentioned this as I was typing this lol).
23:07 I loved The Wild Robot, was my favourite film of last year that’s in this year’s nominations (my actual favourite was All Of Us Strangers as it was a January release here).
13:25 - All the Brazilian fans of Dan Murrell can now rest in peace hahahaha
I always love coming and watching your predictions after the nominations have been announced to see how many you got right (29/35)
Dan I feel so seen by your shoutout to Karen karagulian. I thought he was the standout supporting performance in that film as well. Everything he said had me crying with laughter
You were spot on for the best actor and best actress categories my guy!
Just looking at the list now - I like those who are nominated this year, feels closer to celebrating the art of making movies rather than feeding egos, just my take. Looking forward to the follow-up
Great pronunciation of Mònica Bàrbaro!!! Bravo Dan
Spoiler Alert...
I think if A Complete Unknown wins Best Picture, the audience should have a "Dylan Goes Electric" moment, and throw stuff at the stage.
Great personal shout out for Adam Pearson who was great in a Different Man. I've met him in real life, as charming as he is on screen.. Lovely bloke.
Dan, would love your take on the razzies' noms!
Demi's Golden Globes speech has (hopefully) secured her place, she deserves it!
Dan we have the same predicted supporting actress category!! I was really close to putting Gomez in over Curtis and I have a gut feeling about Barbaro
Fernanda Torres 🇧🇷🏆
5/5 for Best Actor, and Actress well done Dan
Glad to see Keith Kupferer get a shoutout for Ghostlight!
@@djwarrior5150 except she is singing a song condemning them for their corruption towards the cartel. Which forgets the fact SHE is corrupt and took money from the cartels and STILL IS being paid on cartel blood money. But you tell em’ Zoe.
Great video, Dan! Can’t wait for Oscar nominations; do you think the Brutalist/AI scandal will hurt the movie’s chances to win.
I would love to see the three of Mikey Madison, Yuriy Borisov, and Vache Tovmasyan to be nominated for best actress, best supporting actor, and best actor. It's my movie of the year so my bias is strong, but I don't think they will all win.
I wait for your video every damn time !
I would give Villeneuve the Oscar both years. That dude is a generational talent.
Incendies..what a movie!
Takes me back to screen junkie days when y’all put ur own nominees & awards 🥲
Always loved doing that video with the gang!
I'm rooting for The Substance, but don't have high hopes that the Academy will nominated such a wild genre movie.
My favourite performance of the year was Tilda Cobham-Herv, who plays the sister in Young Woman and the Sea.
Would love to see Dan do a review for Hard Truths. Even with the pedigree of Mike Leigh and the potential buzz surrounding Marianne Jean-Baptiste in the awards race I can very easily see it going overlooked
Finally someone recognizes Karren Karagulian’s performance in Anora. It’s literally my favorite performance of the year
Yes I didn't like the film at all but he blew me away! He completely stole the show for me and I loved watching him on screen
I'm guessing that the nominees for best director this year will be:
All that We Imagine as Light
Anora
The Brutalist
Emilia Perez
The Substance
My Top 3 of the year, far and away above the rest, are Flow, Anora, and A Real Pain
I’d love to see Dìdi get a nomination somewhere. It’s very highly rated among the younger crowds.
why did I read that as Diddy💀
Didi is a great movie. I loved it.
I can definitely see Wicked getting lots of Oscar love especially with the political climate right now. The movie's message is very timely.
Brazil mentioned!
I guess I should prepare for the worst if Felicity Jones doesn't get nominated. It's a real shame, even when she appears halfway through the movie, The Brutalist is a career best performance that she has given, way better than The Theory Of Everything imo and it'd be a shame if she got noninated for playing Jane Hawking but doesn't receive a second one for The Brutalist 😢
Since that BAFTA nomination, I genuinely hope there is a miracle for her
I don’t have Juror No. 2 in my predictions but I will be on the lookout thanks to this info.
I hope The Wild Robot gets nominated. It was my favorite in the animation film genre last year.
Me too! It'll be robbery if it doesn't get in.
(I'll give it to you that I represent a very smal minority of moviegoers in this case.)
As far as the editing tool using "AI", I'd want to know what that means here exactly. With "AI" being the current tech buzzword it may just be a slightly better tool for the job.
Maybe it takes away from how we view the performances, but I'd argue any talk of extensive editing would do that.
At least its not as bad as the angry orange lips in Craven the Hunter!
Have you heard about the controversy surrounding AI and The Brutalist? Could it impact its chances of winning awards?
Do you really think Adrian Brody has a chance after it was revealed that they used AI to fix his accent? Isn't an actor's accent a pretty important part of acting?
It was only used when the character is speaking Hungarian, which is very little.
I would be thrilled if Sebastian Stan gets nominated.
Fernanda Torres has a massive performance in I'm Still here. I hope she gets the nomination!!!
Hope The Substance gets a lot of love...and I hope The Brutalist and Emilia Perez get shut out for their use of AI.

P.S. look me up on The Awards Expert app @poihpio98 for more wrong predictions and even wronger favourites!
Love that Nosferatu Best Picture nomination, you see it. Missing a Lily Rose-Depp nod but still great.
She has time.
I would add Willa Fitzgerald for best actress for her performance in Strange Darling. She was phenomenal in that movie
YES! An otherworldly performance in an extraordinary film. Why is it overlooked?
I haven’t seen every big movie this year but all I’ll say is I’ve yet to see a supporting performance better than Chris Hemsworth in Furiosa. He adds a real jolt of manic energy to his early scenes and does a great job of showing how hollow Dementus has become after the time jump. Maybe I’m on an island here but I’m willing to die on this hill.
I don’t care when it released, there was no other film released in 2024 that was better then Dune Part Two
What about Saoirse Ronan for lead actress in "The Outrun"? She in every scene and is amazing. The range of emotions she shows is incredible. She made me laugh, cry, cringe; I felt how she felt. Unfortunately, it was a "small" film and did not get much publicity or marketing. In any case, it's an amazing performance; the whole movie depends on her.
Wrecks me that Dune part 2 likely won't get any of the major noms. I think if it had come out in November 2023 as planned, we would have seen it sweep. Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Actor noms at least. I could even see Javier Bardem getting a Best Supporting Actor nom
Another amazing Dan video. I love the predictions/Screeny-type awards/lists videos. :) My problem with awards nights guessing who will win is that I always vote with my heart against my head. The year Joaquin won, it was a foregone conclusion that he would, but I still voted for Adam Driver for Marriage Story. I still did well in the pool, but I will never learn my lesson enough to win. Anyway, Thanks Dan!

Fernanda Torres is wonderful, what she did in the film is brilliant, the film is magnificent and deserves a lot of recognition, who hasn't seen the film yet, I highly recommend it❤
Personally I am sad there will be no love for Horizon: An American Saga, the most audacious film of the year. Still mad that chapter 2 hasn’t come out yet snd pleading that it gets a wide theatrical release. I wanted do much to do them back to back.
I love Warby Parker!!!
Nosferatu!!! Yes! My favorite film of the year!!
Do you think the (much less publicized than the Brutalist controversy) AI scandal surrounding Emilia Pérez increases Grande's chances of getting that Supporting Actress win?? (A year ago, I would not have believed you if you told me I was about to say this, but - I hope so.)
They know Saldana would win in supporting, but for sure she's a lead.
Why did The Outrun get snubbed for all the major awards this season? Everyone had such high hopes for it earlier this year and all of a sudden it seemed to have lost steam in people's minds
@danmurrell, I asked this a couple months ago, but what happened to the chest pat?
He sadly went through a divorce. I assume it was always meant for his wife, so he no longer does it now. I hope he’s doing well with everything 😊
i really didn't like Anora if i have to sacrifice one of the 'front runners' to get Dune part 2 into some categories, then just get rid of Anora completely.
I don't think Mangold is getting in. He only has DGA and not much else, despite the film's momentum in the guilds. DGA is more normie while the Director's branch is notoriously highbrow nowadays. This is the branch that nominated Justine Triet and Jonathan Glazer over Greta Gerwig and Alexander Payne last year. I have Fargeat making it in over Mangold because of that.
I still think Dune 2 makes it in and Sing Sing, Nickel Boys and September 5 are fighting for that last spot in Picture.
