Great review. Love this car. I have one in grey. Granted it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, some love it and others hate it. Same way I feel about golfs, not my bag, much prefer the focus RS and I was an Audi lover before I purchased this, different strokes for different folks I guess.
I normally love your reviews and will continue to watch, but got to admit this one grated on me a little. I feel like you pre-determined way too much of your verdict prior to driving, and only edged it back enough to say basically "decent for a ford"
I am a ford focus man had the mk 1 in 2003 loved it remapped with a blue fin remapper scorpion exhaust decated 270 bhp used my RS as a daily driver great car MK2 and MK3 good cars
The car does way more than an evora but the brakes and tyres don't give up on track. The brakes hold out better than the m2 it actually takes quite a few hard laps before you get any brake fade. I have mine on ps4s and with the twinster awd system the grip and speed out of corners really amazed me. You should maybe try get hold of 1 for a track day or some really fast b road action i think you'd be a lot more fond of the car after it but great review
Have you been reading my notebook? In all honesty the Evora is a lot more practical than I thought it would be. James did a good job in explaining all aspects of his car, I had a really good day with him.
I had a 997 Carrera 4S before my RS and I much prefer the RS. Not a fair comparison because the RS is brand new and the 911 was 8 years old, but I love the whole package of the RS. That being said, if I hadn't just bought the RS 3 months ago I would be buying an Evora 400 right now!
Good review. This car is jack of all trades. Very fast and practical. Also this car is huuge for a hatchback. And You're not used to turbo-lag because in Evora You've got supercharger which gives instant power delivery :) Focus RS is my dream hot hatch. It's good allround :)
Gives it good presence though! Does it feel big or heavy on the roads? (I guess to you it will feel heavy since you drive a lot of light cars) EDIT: I commented before watching your final conclusions
I'm really surprised that some think that the Ford Focus RS Mk 3.5 looks a massive car. I would've thought that it looks smaller than a more standard model, different strokes I guess. Now compared to the Mk 2 Ford Focus really does give the impression of being a larger vehicle in comparison, despite the two models being much the same size.
Getting addicted to your reviews you do seem to seek out the cars a guineunily would like to drive and a few i have had 350z for example not to interested in the modern stuff now a days but I do own one of these brand new 2018 one of the last ones in the same colour as this one the only gripe av got with this video is the mostly front wheel drive feel you gave if you genuinely push these round a corner on full whack they feel more rear wheel drive bias very clever awd system it is capable of sending 70% power to rear wheels and then 100% that to each of those rear wheels in any driving mode you really have to push to feel it tho great review tho a keep them coming 👍
Pass my driving test in mk2 escort & owned escorts.. The last fast ford I owned was a Tarmac spec mk2 escort.....Lots for power does not always equal a better car...as I'm sure you know all too well...I'm sure for 30 something year olds this is a good choice.... I'm more at the softer end of the hot hatch market with my DSG S3.....good view
Brakes are great. Engine is pretty nice. But you have to extend your arm fully to shift gears, the seating position is that of a lorry and it has absolutely insane understeer and crap suspension.
Great until the head gasket goes like mine did. Then the big ends failed. … Think the engine isn’t really up to what’s been required. The 2.0 ST engine was way better, closed deck block etc.
The Victorian police released a statement when this car was released canning it as irresponsible and threatening harsh penalties for anyone caught hooning in it.
still don't think it looks better than the mk2 rs with 2 doors and wide body kit " Did the rs focus feel as quick as the m4 you drove on the video the other day?
This is a great discussion of hatchback vs sportscar. Like you say Evora vs Focus is a little unfair because of the price difference but then again I'd much rather a proper sportscar like a Miata over a hatch.
good good. nice and alternative review of a car i've seen so many reviews of. I understand why you made the shorter title and overlaid it with the current video. Guess you have gone from one extreme to another and need to find a balance - i would just add a fade or transition after the title to smooth the jump to you talking. (sorry i am a design tutor/ senior lecturer so cannot help myself)
I don't understand how you can complain about the harshness of the seats in a CLA45 AMG and yet these optional Recaro seats are very harsh to say the least, that combined with the harsh ride quality you still find them comfortable.
drove one of these heaps the other month. gotta say I hate feel of em, reminds me of an audi rs3, just push n go type car it felt so artificial. ide love to see one of these pitted against a 04 impreza sti ppp, these things had 340 brake, wat a car. makes these things feel plastic.

One of the best car channels!
Thanks!

Love the colour, used to have a focus, not an RS but it was a good car. I've driven the fiesta st, good fun car too. Great video.
Excellent video
i know it's kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to watch new movies online?
That car looks like something on the front cover of the 90s boy racers magazine, Max Power.
+green grass Yup, comes pre-barried

The standard seats have you sitting lower.
Good video, keep um coming please.
The bangs, lag and torque sound ideal for me, I love a car that doesn't care, one that is a little bit silly
Good honest review. Looking forward to what the owner thinks of the Lotus.
i expect there will be a lot of 'but i need the practicality' excuses...
Have you been reading my notebook? In all honesty the Evora is a lot more practical than I thought it would be. James did a good job in explaining all aspects of his car, I had a really good day with him.
Sharkey's Machines I nearly took a RS focus for a test drive last weekend ! But i fancy something different like a lotus or Porsche.
Sharkey's Machines I've got a B5 RS4 so that is too similar to the RS focus hence me getting a sports car rather then another AWD practical car.
great review mate, Im hanging for my delivery
REDEEL16 did you get it? What do you think? Have you still got it?
thelaurels13 I have mine

The setting of the dampers can be decoupled from each mode with a push on the left stalk.
James Martin absolutely.
The best car reviews great presentation

You said it exactly right, it is a Ford Focus
Great until the head gasket goes like mine did. Then the big ends failed. … Think the engine isn’t really up to what’s been required. The 2.0 ST engine was way better, closed deck block etc.
Doesn't the Evora cost twice that of the RS?
+FOCUSEGO Yes it does
Bit on the late side. I bought a 17 and have still had it for longer than this review has been out lol. Not a bad review though.
I work with what I'm given! No fancy factory press cars for me (except from Caterham, who are lovely).
Very diplomatic review there, Jay lol. I know what you mean, though. I'm not a fan of hot hatchbacks either.
how much would it cost to mk3 driving side switch to the left side? arent the rs mk3 faster than the american made ford rs because it has higher od
chris johnson it would be a lot cheaper to modify a American one
Is there a review on the Golf R?
Yes I did two. A stock manual Mk7 and a modified dsg 7.5
That's all well and good. But imagine what the 700kg Zenos E10r does with the same engine.
Jay,so Honda Type R FK8 next then
+keith morris would love to

this car is way faster than the american ford rs it has higher speed od
Me got a 2008 Ford Fiesta Xr4 WQ And a 2018 Ford Focus RS
still don't think it looks better than the mk2 rs with 2 doors and wide body kit " Did the rs focus feel as quick as the m4 you drove on the video the other day?
good to see you doing all these vids on other sports cars martin! Top stuff
This is a great discussion of hatchback vs sportscar. Like you say Evora vs Focus is a little unfair because of the price difference but then again I'd much rather a proper sportscar like a Miata over a hatch.
I went there with the intention of comparing the two cars with James, but you really can't. They are like apples and onions
Agreed, in looks it doesnt touch the mk2 or even mk1 focus rs. Ford played it ultra safe .. zzzz
@@AndySmallbone they decided to invest in the drive this time
new intro!!
tell me you are not 27....learnt to drive ten years ago..

Global Nomad
I would simply let the engine sound echo/reverb as a transition to him talking. Simple as that 🙂
ECN, there are many ways but we agree it needs a better transition...

+nilzr1 The recaros in this are miles nicer than the AMG seats
You prob haven't sat in them
So it a Ford then
My vacuum cleaner sounds better mk1 and mk2 all day every day
