  • I have had my new 25ft North River hardtop in the San Francisco Bay now for 30 days. I wanted to take it out of the water to see what it looks like and how easy or hard it would be to clean. Before and After the boat cleaning I try my luck halibut fishing.

    Use ablative or antifouling paint to prevent hull growth. You will have to check to see if it can be applied over the clear coat. Some paints are not compatible and won't adhere to each other well. If not compatible you can probably find a primer that will bond to both as an intermediary.

    • @stevenovak4326
      @stevenovak4326 Месяц назад

      Agreed, it looks and sounds like you thought you were getting in anti fouling coating but you did not. You've basically sealed your hull but the coating doesn't "shed" like the anti fouling treatment provides. Lessoned learned but you will have to figure out if an anti-fouling 'paint" will adhere to the clear coat product you applied. I'd be concerned the boat yard you had apply it didn't make it clear to you that you weren't getting an anti-fouling treatment, or if they didn't know the product usaage case, they should have. Its on them for not asking you the right questions.

    You wrong about (..."it's just the bottom of the boat"). The salty air is just as harsh on the rest of your boat. The only reason I would ever leave a boat on the water is if it were too large to tow.

It was moored before I bought it and it shows signs of the salt getting through the paint. Mine is a 2022 Hewes that I bought last year from the previous owner. Pressure washing mine was taking it off . Not sure what I’m going to do now . Remove it and replace or not !

    You know you could go ahead and do the pressure washing at your house. You know you could do it right on the trailer and then what you do is you get a bottle? Jack with a wood block and jack up the section where the skiff is at and pressure wash and lower it and there you go clean it off otherwise I’d recommend a good bottom paint something like copper in it as a copper lead. I can’t remember what it what’s materials but that expensive $300 a gallon paint that we put on boats that’s what you need and you have to worry about that again.

The CO2 is normally good for about 5 years, check the date on the co2 unit on the right. A new CO2 inflation cartridge is about $75. I have tested these and they inflate at about 12” submerged.

    Yeah, like he said transferring the boat with the gas and everything launching fees all that stuff cost money and it’s just about even what it cost for a slip now if you get a slip over here in Monterey, I’ll be more than happy to give you free labor on The bottom paint and the maintenance on the boat so when you wanna come fishing, the boat will be ready to go. Just take me fishing with you when you go fishing. I’m gonna be working at the harbor there. I believe this summer. I wanna do this work again I’m retired but I gotta get back to work, but I wanna go fishing. I’ll be more happy to take care of your boat if you’re gonna have it Monterey so it’ll be ready to go at all times oil changes everythingsafety checks all that good stuff

    You have to pay a diver to come out once a month in the summer and once every 6-8 weeks in winter to scrub her down. That's what most do that care about their boats.

    Aloha. I used to fish with an older Japanese gentleman. He also had a north river, and refused to take it out the salt.

    You were about two weeks away from having the growth turn more solid like it did on mine. The other wear is the zinc plates. The coating helps for sure, I wish I had put it on. I had a hard time finding someone to wash my aluminum boat, let me know what you find out.

      I have seen videos with a foot of growth on it from a year and they has the hull max clear coat and it washed right off like it did for me. But yeah i would think getting it earlier rather then later is better. Thanks for watching

      yes extremely shallow, you 100% would get stuck if you dont stay in the channel they dredge. 15 years ago i got stuck, thats how I learned about channel markers lol

      The motor is completely out of the water when I am not using it. I flush it and wash it off with freshwater after each use. I dont leave the electronics on the boat, take them home with me, plus why would something happen to electronics in the closed cabin? Thanks for watching
