I have a 2004 North River Jet Sled. Built like a tank, but nimble. The company seems to have moved more towards producing ocean-going vessels, but are still as soilid as ever. I would think the folks at North River would be glad to give you pointers and best practices for keeping your craft on the ocean, performing at it's best. AG
Use ablative or antifouling paint to prevent hull growth. You will have to check to see if it can be applied over the clear coat. Some paints are not compatible and won't adhere to each other well. If not compatible you can probably find a primer that will bond to both as an intermediary.
Agreed, it looks and sounds like you thought you were getting in anti fouling coating but you did not. You've basically sealed your hull but the coating doesn't "shed" like the anti fouling treatment provides. Lessoned learned but you will have to figure out if an anti-fouling 'paint" will adhere to the clear coat product you applied. I'd be concerned the boat yard you had apply it didn't make it clear to you that you weren't getting an anti-fouling treatment, or if they didn't know the product usaage case, they should have. Its on them for not asking you the right questions.
Dude, for all the clean up drama, I would just do the tow thing. It’s great exercise. Have you considered using a marine type of degreaser spray on the algae to help spray off. Something that will also neutralize the algae left behind. Although having a boat berth is super convenient and comfortable . Nice! 🎣 🛥 👨🏼🦲👍🏼
@coastiespeed do you work for them or know the product real well. It used to say anti fouling on there website pretty sure. but now i see it only says foul release coating. It doesnt seem to do any anti fouling but good for foul release. please tell me more
SeaHawk paint. I had a trailerable 20'. I tried west marine, I got 2 seasons. I tried interlux, got about 3.5 seasons. Put SeaHawk on, 6 seasons. The color never faded either.
Happy Father's Day Chris !!! I have my boat docked in a slip in the delta with a boat lift I bought used for cheap (I'm moving and its for sale,4000# lift for $1K), and while I'm in fresher water, no algae growth at all. Boat lift's are way worth the money
A boat lift to me would be the only way I would keep my boat in a slip in the salt. I have not looked at Chris’s boat specs but I am pretty sure that it exceeds the 4000lbs your lift is rated for. My 23’ NR stripped hull weighs 4500lbs. No motors, fuel etc.
First time doing anything on a new boat is always a reason for extra concern. It went great though and the hull paint seemed to work well. I always use that concentrated Star Brite Salt Off cleaner on Amazon and wash everything when I pull it out. Gets rid of saltwater spots and salt deposits in your lower end. I live near Bodega Bay and it has been crazy windy lately. Happy Father's Day!!
I think it washed up fantastic. I agree with you about having a slip over trailering all the time. Much easier and taking electronics home another smart move . Enjoy your new machine and live the good life .

I noticed in the docks that pretty much all aluminum boats have algae problems. I have a fiberglass boat with a good layer of wax on the bottom that’s in the water for 3 months. No algae at all. Even the fiberglass boats without wax have barely any algae but aluminum ones are always full of it.
You were about two weeks away from having the growth turn more solid like it did on mine. The other wear is the zinc plates. The coating helps for sure, I wish I had put it on. I had a hard time finding someone to wash my aluminum boat, let me know what you find out.
I have seen videos with a foot of growth on it from a year and they has the hull max clear coat and it washed right off like it did for me. But yeah i would think getting it earlier rather then later is better. Thanks for watching
I think those “soft bites” tend to happen more when fishing with the current. I think the fish bites and just comes along for the ride where it’s not being dragged against the current. Great video, again!
I liked the cleaning part. I'm no expert but it looked like it cleaned up really nicely to me. Good call bringing a scrubber for the deck... get that blood and slime off before it gets crusty. I'm diggin' this boat! I would totally watch you jump in the water and inflate your life vest! maybe for the 30k or 50k subscriber vid?
You should at a minimum of twice a year unzip the PFD from the flap on the left side and use the manual inflation tube and ensure the unit holds air. The CO2 is normally good for about 5 years, check the date on the co2 unit on the right. A new CO2 inflation cartridge is about $75. I have tested these and they inflate at about 12” submerged.
Chris did you take it for a high speed run for a while ? I keep my big red Raider in Berkeley. I was told to take it for a high speed run and it would knock off about 75% of the growth, it worked, I've been at Berkeley for about 16 months and it works for me.
